Ratings: 'NCIS' socks it to 'The Biggest Loser, 'V,' 'Parenthood'

Parenthood-castImage Credit: Art Streiber/NBCMan, originals of The Biggest Loser, No Ordinary Family, V, and Parenthood were no match for the NCIS franchise: CBS won Tuesday in adults 18-49 (3.2 rating/9 share) and viewers (16.5 million), thanks to those men and women from NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles. Granted, both dramas were down (NCIS earned a  4.1/11, down 9 percent, while LA earned a 3.3/9, down 11 percent), but the network still ruled in most key demos for the night. Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million.

The Good Wife only did so-so ratings, earning a 2.1/6 in the demo — which ties it with its season low. CBS’ most-watched show for the night was NCIS (20.9 million), followed by LA (17.2 million) and Wife (11.3 million).

NBC was second for the night with a 2.6/7 and 7.3 million viewers, with The Biggest Loser: Couples earning a 2.9/8 and 8.1 million, followed by Parenthood (2.1/6, 5.6 million). Fox tied ABC for third place (1.7/5) after airing a repeat of Glee and an original of Million Dollar Money Drop (1.9/5, 5.2 million). ABC aired No Ordinary Family (1.8/5, 5.7 million), V (2.0/5, 5.6 million), and 20/20: The Congresswoman and the Astronaut (1.3/4, 6.1 million). Side note: Family’s definitely getting better, kids. Maybe give it a chance so ABC won’t drop it come May?

And now a note about last night’s (sad) series finale of Life Unexpected on The CW: It was the most-watched episode of the season (1.75 million viewers) and on par with season averages among most of the younger demos. So long, sweet show.

I’m beginning to think the only people who have those nielson box things all have absolutely no taste whatsoever.

NCIS…? Seriously? Haven’t you guys had enough of this procedural crap yet?

    • Jay

and on a side note… I agree with you, Lynette. Last night’s No Ordinary Family was top-notch. I’m not a huge fan of the show, but last night’s episode was the best yet

    • JayAlso

I really enjoy NCIS & NCIS:LA. It’s better than that Biggest Loser crap, and Glee, a show about a bunch of whiny HS students. At least NCIS & NCIS:LA have characters that have multiple levels to them, and are both procedural and delve into the characters.

thank you … i love ncis and ncis l.a. they always have great episodes. i hate all the reality shows cause they aren’t reality

    • June

      It’s better than Parenthood.

    • Jerri

Jay, clearly you haven’t seen NCIS. its not your typical CSI procedural. (NCIS has nothing to do with CSI franchise) The characters of the show are what attracts the viewers much more than the genre.

Plus I enjoy how they delve into and develop timely stories about terrorism and political corruption

I agree and this week’s episode was the best one this season. A timely storyline involving the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and an excellant guest star appearance by Bob Newhart. Here’s hoping that Bob gets at least an Emmy nomination for his work.

Agreed. If Neilesen boxes are to believed, America is only interested in medical, legal and procedural dramas.

      or reality shows.

I havent seen last night’s episode yet, but NO ORDINARY FAMILY has GREATLY IMPROVED!! The first 5 or so episodes felt like poor writing and acting, lots of cliche’s and poor explanations for events taking place. The actors didnt seem very connected, and almost like the whole show was just “going through the motions”. It slowly got better, and ever since the last episode prior to the Winter Break this show demands more of my attention. The Cliffhangers help, too. :-)

NCIS makes CSI Miami look like high art. What a disgrace.

  • ST

That does make me sad about Life Unexpected. I have to admit, I did tear up a bit at last night’s show. The ending felt a bit rushed but I get they were trying to give the fans a pay off and I appreciate the writers doing that. At least (I guess) the CW gave this show enough warning. Unlike Veronica Mars which never got a proper send off (or a chance really). Yes, I’m still bitter…

  • tammie

I love both NCIS shows, but never watch the Good Wife. Didn’t want to get sucked into another series, I watch too much already!

  • Julia

I’m curious as to how White Collar did. Sure, it’s cable, but it was the season opener.

    • Laurel

Yes, I was wondering about White Collar also. Great show!

  • R8RBOB

Time to concede Tuesday nights. No network is going to beat CBS network. ABC needs to work to get Friday night back to TGIF. They need to move NOF and V to Friday night and move D187 to Monday night. Move all the reality crap to Tuesdays

    • Diane

Maybe that’s why FOX moved Idol

  • Lisa

Please CW don’t cancel Life Unexpected!

  • Iakovos

NO ORDINARY FAMILY deserves some loving. As does PARENTHOOD. ABC canmake FAMILY work. Again, play it Sunday at 7 or 8 (Why, oh why do we have more AFV?!?!) or maybe counterprogram Thursday at 8. Sad for LIFE UNEXPECTED. It was good.

  • Roy

Why do all the NCIS HATERS always gravitate to the sites that talk about the show? If you hate the show then FINE-DON’t WATCH IT! But don’t put the people who happen to LOVE the show down! I can’t help it if a good portion of the viewers happen to agree and LOVE it too.

  • Greg

Come on! No Ordinary Family a show? It’s just a rehash of “The Impossibles” staring “Ben Grimm” from the “Fantastic Four.”

I happen to watch both “NCIS” shows as well as “Parenthood.” They are all three great vehicles. I just can’t see producers putting any more money behind “No Ordinary Family.” It was a waste of dollars to begin with.

  • Greg

..As for “V?” How long can the “aliens among us” format continue, especially since it was better with less techno shots during it’s first run?

  • Superstar

I think they need to promote V more as it’s one of the only shows I watch on TV right now. A good show that more people should watch.

I would say go online if you haven’t watched all the episodes from season 1 up to now…not that many to watch yet so it shouldnt take that long…and give it a chance. And if not..watch a few episodes in a row on TV from now and see if you get into it…give it a chance…though not like people arent watching it either..5.6 million people watching is pretty good.

  • Skye

Parenthood deserves so much more recognition and credit than it currently receives – The cast is amazingly talented, the storyline are fresh and funny. Not even one nomination or acknowledgment from the awards.

    • Elle

      Because it sucks.
