'Jersey Shore' breaks another record

free-snookieImage Credit: MTVGood God, those kids are unstoppable: Thursday’s episode of Jersey Shore ranked as the most-watched series telecast in MTV’s history, averaging 8.9 million viewers and beating last week’s record of 8.6 million. It also averaged 6.9 million viewers among persons 12 to 34 – up from last week when it lured 6.6 million.

Even better (that is, from MTV’s perspective) is how it trounced American Idol. Jersey Shore was the No. 1 telecast among all primetime shows on Thursday among persons 12-34, beating the Fox show by nearly 1 million.

What is your wrong with you people?

    • Tiffany

hi rusty. plz find a sense of humor xD

      • Rusty Shackelford

I have one but usually reserved for something funny

  • Dave

    Sigh…

    • heidi

My daughter is 12 and let me tell you, they are all trying the snooki poof on their hair and wishing for breasts like enhanced ‘j wow’. I showed her and her friends some less flattering clips (eg. snooki falling on her face in the sand cause she’s so smashed, getting arrested, her mug shot etc.) So frustrating that this show has taken off! I told her I can’t let her watch and while she’s not happy, at least she has American Idol on. With her little hair pouf. PLEASE can we see teens and young adults on tv that actually reflect the kind of people we WANT our children to want to be like???

      • ty

so should the only things on tv be appropriate for 12 yrs olds…they are all 23+ yrs old they have nothing in common with your 12 yr old. They are not remodels and it isn’t there responsibility to be.

  • Luggages

Stress – it makes you do funny things.

  • bill

Further proof that people are stupid.

    • Sarah Kramer

      Word.

    • SS

I’m not stupid, I have a master’s degree and a productive life, but these kids are hilarious. Do I hate what they do/say sometimes, yes (especially the one pictured, Deena; she’s like a new level of douche girl) — but most of them are really likable and funny.
Plus they’re kind of a family and they fight, make up, party, etc. It’s a fun party show.

    • Laura

      Absolutely

  • marc

hate to have to be the one to bring up this point, but arent you negative commentors the most stupid of all to even waste your time commenting on something you deem to be so stupid, or useless, or such an utter waste of time? You are the stupid ones. If you think this is a waste of time why go through the trouble of commenting let alone reading the article.. Also the show is hilarious.. its impossible for you too be to smart for it.. its not trying to trick you nor does it take itself seriously.. its knows its a joke.. get over the jersey shore bashing.. anyone who does so is pathetic.

    • Rusty Shackelford

Dumb comeback. You don’t have to read an article in order to comment. Also, learn the concept of feedback. Not always positive.

    • heidi

I think the danger of the show is that 12 year old girls want to be like that. They don’t have wisdom yet, and don’t always filter the ‘fun’ of the show out from the fact that these are aimless youth with drinking problems who view their bodies as vehicles to have as much sex with any one who wants them. As an adult, I could watch, and laugh it off as silly but as a parent I have a problem with it.

  • Jonathan Juarbe

I wouldn’t necessarily say that people are stupid. The Jersey Shore is one of those shows that is a, and I hate to say it, guilty pleasure because it’s like watching a train wreck. You can have a terrible day but then you watch these losers and wow..your day becomes insanely better…

    • Kris

      I suddenly understand the appeal.

  • Mike

Above Commenters: Get over yourselves! It’s a fun show to watch and relax for an hour. I don’t always want to watch shows like Terriers, Mad Men, and Dexter.

    • heidi

you wouldn’t say that if you had a young daughter. I don’t even let her watch the show but she knows about it and every girl tries to emulate who t hey think these ‘cool girls’ are. The more popular the show is the more they think (guys and girls) they should be like those people. That’s the part I hate. I recognize it is my job to parent and protect and I do keep her from watching but I can’t control what she hears from friends or style choices that are now available in stores.
This is not a Jersey Shore problem it is a general problem that girls so young think this is cool and they are so impressionable. I don’t want my girl thinking she should look or act like them, and I wish it was on alot later but its here and its popular so I have some stiff competition when it comes to influencing my child. And alot of parents feel that way, not just me.

      • Kevin

Hedi, Like you I have a daughter (age 15) and I understand where you’re coming from. And even though I watch the show I do my best to make sure she doesn’t. But I have taken the time to talk to her and let her know why. Just like any other movie or TV program that I don’t think is suited to someone her age. Does that stop her from being exposed to those things? Absolutely not. But bye taking the time to explain to her that what she sees on a show like this is not how a grown woman or man should act I can at least hope that if she has friends or sees people around her act or dress like the people on the show she realizes that they are probably the people she shouldn’t associate with…

  • Jonathan Juarbe

but some people are stupid so I can agree…haha

  • Jonathan Juarbe

    Marc and Mike..stop yelling

  • HD

I’ve never seen the show? Is it really this entertaining?

    • Liz Lemon

Lol. I was one of those people who loathed this show, but then one day a few months ago…I was sick and somehow ended up watching it and now I’m hooked.
Luckily for me, it’s the only IQ-lowering reality show I’ve ever watched. So, I can get away with it.

    • SS

      It is HILARIOUS. Seriously.

  • Bobby F

One little comment….12-34 year old demo? Wow. I would never let anyone 12 years old watch a show like this.

    • RS

      EXCELLENT POINT.

      • heidi

see all my above comments. They apply to boys too. My daughters friends all do the pouf and she tries it too. She wanted to put a picture of Snooki and JWow up in her room and asked if she could get plastic surgery for her breasts if they don’t turn out ‘big enough’. And boys her age are starting to sdo sit ups and get tanned (not kidding). They want ripped abs like The Situation and want to be as cool as Pauly D. Its sheer fun for adults but really dangerous for kids because they think a popular show = how they should be to be popular. My daughter thinks I’m so mean cause I don’t let her watch it, but I know she still learns about it at school. It sucks.

      • etm

I think it’s great that you don’t let your daughter watch it. She is way too young. Of course she may watch it elsewhere (a friend’s house or on someone’s phone at school during lunch). I think it’s good that you talk about the negative aspects of the show with your daughter. Talking with your daughter about stuff and making sure she knows she can always come to you to talk is so important. My daughter is still a baby, so I can only imagine what will be on TV when she is 12!

      • Menchy

You’re concerned because boys are doing situps and getting tan? I’m concerned about your roncern.

  • bill

As I said, people are stupid.

  • Greg

Wait a minute…. almost 8 million people still watch American Idol?!?!

    • Sarah Kramer

      I know! Dang, TV stank!

    • jeff

actually 22 million people watch idol way more than Jersey Shore. It’s just that demographic that was more

  • JOsh

I have no problem with people who want to watch Jersey Shore. Why not see these people make total asses of themselves. But which parents are letting their 12-15 year olds watch this show? Of course if the kids misbehave, they’ll blame it on the Jersey Shore and not on their LACK OF PARENTING.

    • ks

      So true

  • Summer Bay

Way to go America! keep playing to that stereotype of drunk stupid morons.
