OK, I have to come up with a better way of talking about this show in headlines other than “magic series,” but “Harry Potter for grown-ups” is getting played out and nobody really knows the name 17th Precinct yet.
Anyhoo: Michael Rymer will direct Ron Moore’s NBC pilot 17th Precinct, the crime procedural set in a world where magic exists. Battlestar Galactica fans know Rymer’s name. He directed many of the show’s pivotal episodes, including the first two parts of its miniseries.

Ooh, they are going for that look? I hope it works better than it did in Caprica. Friday Night Lights has the style nailed.
wasn’t that show called the dresdon files?
The BSG-pedigree on this show is a big plus. Hope it all comes together nicely. Can’t wait to hear who they cast.
NBC huh? so that will about 20 episodes & then canceled.
The name has got to go….17th precinct… I am absolutely sure that it is clever and means something beyond the name of the show, b/c ron moore is that good…but if he wants the show to make it, and stay…the name needs to be more fundamental.
I totally agree.
Hmm, could be interesting. Television needs more shows about magic. Not yet convinced about the procedural aspect of it. But I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
so in the season finale are they going to have one character just disappear like they never existed?
worst finale ever….next to LOST.
Deux ex Machina is possibly the lamest way to end a show.
It’s The Dresden Files 2.0. Why not just call it that?
complete agreement. Hopefully the plot is anywhere near as good as the books
I would hope this turns out to be more than a procedural. Hopefully an over-arching story emerges quickly. Otherwise no amount of magic or Battlestar vets will keep me tuned in.
Ron Moore, I salute you and your visionary work, but wow I cannot believe you are AGAIN working with NBC Universal (parent company of Syfy) with its penchant for poor marketing and poor show support. They will just cancel it on you guys.
Their poor advertising campaign on this is already evident in that no one has heard of it >.>
Definitely sounds like the Dresden Files to me. If it’s anything like the series that they already did, thumbs down – I still doubt those people even read the books. But I definitely love and trust Ron Moore so I’ll keep an eye on this one.
Useful info. Lucky me I discovered your site accidentally, and I’m shocked why this coincidence didn’t took place in advance! I bookmarked it.
