Any concerns Starz may have had about continuing with the Spartacus franchise are surely going to be erased by this news: Prequel series Gods of the Arena premiered Friday night and delivered 1.1 million viewers for its first airing at 10 p.m. then another 753,000 viewers for its encore at 11 p.m.
That 1.9 million tally is higher than the combined Friday night airings for any episode of Spartacus season one, and is up about 70% from the premiere of Blood and Sand. Given the way the first season’s ratings built over time, there’s a chance these numbers could similarly climb in the coming weeks as more fans realize the show is back.

Wish I could afford to expand my cable coverage to include Starz. The show sounds awesome. Hope it has more staying-power than ‘Rome’ a few seasons ago.
Get Netflix – you get Starz programming via streaming depending on what plan you are on.
Yes Netflix has it as part of there service. You can see starz shows when you like. Rome’s original intent was that it was only suppose to be a mini-series that was to be one season only. They put in a second season due to public demand but at 1 mill.an episode, they were not going to extend it a 3rd time.
Netflix is how I watched both the original Spartacus, Pillars of the Earth and now the prequal.
It’s only like 5 bucks a month.

If you have NETFLIX you can stream it the Saturday after it shows. No need for STARS…. No commercials either…..
I expected more at the first episode I guess or I just miss sparticus sooooooo much. I’m just so happy its back on Starz though. I’m not to keen on the new guy. He does seem to over act at some scenes. The look isnt there he just seem more like a wrestler than a gladitor. Andy Whitfield is such a great actor. You can feel his pain his love his discust and his happiness almost like you were in his skin. The last season episode I was screamming Kill them all with him. My neighbors complained. LOL. I know he is ill and I pray for him. But they should of got someone that is also as intense of an actor as he is. This new guy isnt convincing to me. Hope his acting gets better in the next 5 series. But I’m still glued to my tv for this show.

He’s not a ‘replacement’, but some people criticize before they know the facts. It’s also supposed to look like wrestler to appeal to today’s audience.
Isnt Andy coming back after he finishes treatment for his Leukemia I thought that this prequel was just a diversion to the fans while he recovers from treatment?
This “new guy” is only for this mini-series and if you cant already tell from episode one is going to be the major obstacle the Krixus ( I have no idea how to spell his name right) will have to overcome before he becomes the Champion.dy wont be comming back sadly. The new guy takes over with the start of season 2.

I don’t think we are supposed to love the new guy’s character – he is supposed to be a jerk. I got a feeling this prequel might be more about Crixus’ (sp?) rise to the top, Doctori’s (forget his real name) story and Batiardus’ rise.
Doctori’s name is Anameus. It was never spoken in the first season.
I don’t think we are supposed to think of the new guy as the hero here – he is a bit of a jerk. I have a feeling the story might be more about Doctori’s background (before he became Doctori), Crixus’ rise to the top and Batiardus rise to the top and the cause of his fued with the blonde guy (can’t remember that name).
This is a prequel. In this season they went back in time to show us how it all started. Next season they will have Andy’s replacement.
His name is Gannicus, this is a prequel to Spartacus.
One of my most favorite TV shows ever! Love Lucy Lawless and such and interesting storyline. It has action and goes places other series has never been before! Love me some Spartacus!

Unfortunatly, Andy Whitfield will not be back for the show again and they will be announcing his replacement soon. His cancer came back and he cannot continue the role. Very sorry Andy!
They already announced his replacement. It’s an actor named Liam McIntyre.
A Rome movie is coming in the not too distant future. Rome was excellent but real expensive. But a movie is definitely coming. As is a straight to DVD Sarah Connor Chronicles according to some of that shows stars.
Alicia, the guy in this prequel is not the new guy. Andy was never going to be in this series, in fact they made it due to Andy being sick since they realized it would delay season 2 of the original show.
I hope that after this prequel, they are going to continue the story and leave us hanging with all of the loose ends from Blood and Sand. I can’t get enough!!!!!
