NBC develops Chelsea Handler's 'Are You There, Vodka' book for possible series

Chelsea-HandlerFrom Wonder Woman…to Chelsea Handler! NBC made a flurry of pilot orders today, including one inspired by Handler’s bestselling book Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea. The E! talk show host will executive produce the multi-camera comedy – along with Tom Werner, Mike Clements, and Tom Brunelle – that will focus on the lives of a group of 20-somethings who live and work together with a very outspoken young woman. Other exec producers include Julie Larson and Dottie Dartland Zicklin. Handler will not appear.

NBC also ordered these other comedy pilots today:

  • Untitled Whitney Cummings Project. Starring and based on the comedy of Whitney Cummings, the multi-camera sitcom focuses on a young couple and the ups and downs of a committed relationship in today’s world. Other exec producers include Scott Stuber, Quan Phung, and Barry Katz.
  • Brave New World. From Sony Pictures, Peter Tolan and Michael Wimer, this single-camera workplace comedy follows a group of unusual characters at Pilgrim Village, a theme park that specializes in recreations of New England in 1647.
  • My Life as an Experiment. From Sony, Cathy Yuspa, Josh Goldsmith and Jack Black, this is a single-camera comedy about a magazine writer who immerses himself and his family in his unusual situations for his stories, which always reflect back on his marriage. It’s based on the book by (former EW writer!) A.J. Jacobs.

Are you there NBC? it’s me…a viewer.
stop making crap and get some real ideas.

Are you proud to be a misogynistic sexist pig?

And oh yes, how about making judgments on shows that you haven’t seen yet?

        • Cheery

Mark doesn’t need to see the show to know it’s crap, just look at the source.

I read that crap in an afternoon at B&N and wish I could get those hours back. Such a waste of time–not even funny.

Maybe I read the wrong “book” though, doesn’t Chelsea have another one about all the guys she’s screwed? I think that one might be more entertaining, but I certainly won’t pay to read it either.

Chelsea’s shtick is good for a few episodes on her nighttime talk show, after that it’s tired and redundant. Her “comedy” skits on her show are awful.

none of these are the least bit appealing. thank God we have more quality choices on OTHER networks now.

Chelsea Handler is the worst. Not funny at all.

    • Allison

I love Chelsea and I don’t think the series needs to happen. The description doesn’t sound much like the book, which had little to do with the “Comedians of Chelsea Lately.”

Listen you tasteless douchebags. I am not sure why you are so hostile towards one of the most successful women in entertainment. I would like to know why you don’t like her or her shows, and then describe to me what you consider quality. And then provide some insight on what you think nbc should pursue next.

And entertainment to you, you are thanking god- who is the real dumbass?
