Charlie Sheen suffers 'severe abdominal pains,' rushed to hospital

charlie-sheenImage Credit: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagicUPDATED: A representative for Charlie Sheen confirmed that the Two and A Half Men star – who apparently has a history of suffering from what’s called a hiatal hernia – was rushed to the hospital Thursday in Los Angeles. “He has had a history of having this type of hernia, and the person who made the 911 call said he had severe stomach pains and said it was from a hernia condition,” said his spokesman, adding, “I have no firsthand knowledge of any of this.”

TMZ reports that he is expected to stay in the hospital overnight. The CBS comedy that is produced by Warner Bros. TV is currently in the midst of a scheduled hiatus so Sheen’s hospitalization — at least for now — should not affect production. The cast and crew are set to return on Feb. 1.

Earlier this month, a series of reports hit the Internet about Sheen and how he reportedly went on a bender in Las Vegas with porn stars over a weekend. That prompted a ”Will he show up to work?” watch, which forced his personal publicist to issue a statement saying that he did, in fact, make it to the set on time the following Monday. As a result, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler made a point of addressing Sheen’s health at a press conference for the nation’s TV critics.

“We have a high level of concern. How can we not?” she said. “Let me speak personally first. On a very basic human level, I am concerned of course. This man is a father, he has children, he has a family. You can’t look at it simplistically. Charlie is a professional. He comes to work, he does his job extremely well. We are taping tonight. It’s very complicated, but we have a very good relationship with Warner Bros. TV. We have tremendous trust and respect with the way they are managing the situation. On a personal level, we obviously have concern. On a professional level, he does his job and he does it well. This show is a hit. That’s all I have to say.”

In the meantime, Jon Cryer tried to make light of the Sheen situation recently while appearing on The 3 Minute Talk Show with Barry Sobel via lstudio.com. What’s his secret to being on the No. 1 comedy? “Do a show with Charlie Sheen, ’cause it’s always fun. You get to check TMZ to know whether you’ve got to go into work that day, which is great. You’re sitting at home [pretends to check TMZ on his phone] ‘Oh, oh, kick back, everybody. Daddy’s got the day off.’”

No matter what headline emerges about Sheen — be it a bender in Sin City or an allegation of extortion by an adult film actress — the publicity never seems to hurt his top-rated show. Now in its eighth season, Two and Half Men remains the most-watched comedy in prime time, with 14.7 million. It also consistently wins its timeslot in the all-important 18-49 demographic.

Warner Bros. TV already has a deal in place with CBS to deliver another two seasons of Men, through 2012. Last May, Sheen announced that he closed a new, multi-million dollar pact to stay on the comedy.

That’s what happens when you swallow too many heroin-filled balloons.

    • LOL

      How is he still alive?

      • Ziggy

Or better yet, WHY is he still earning $1 million an episode? Where are those organizations that get so uptight about Family Values in Media?

      • M

        Seriously, this man is pathetic.

    • Quirky

Don’t be stupid. Why would he be the drug mule? He has servants and/or hookers for that.

    • heidi

or a briefcase full of cocaine, as TMZ is reporting.

  • Chris P.

    Is anyone surprised? Not likely.

    • commentor

Why does this loser get so much attention?

      • Idontcaretbh.

Well. He’s not really a loser, but is in fact very awesome.

  • turkuz.

simsiki dipdiri basenler, tas gibi abdominaller.

    • drayche

      really? Wow that is facinating!!

    • Garry

I couldn’t have said it better.

  • Strepsi

Spokesman: “All I know is he was having severe abdominal pains” — I call BULL$#! Of course they know what’s going on.

CBS head Nina Tassler: “This show is a hit. That’s all I have to say.”

Perhaps the problem is not just the alcohol and drugs, but the horrific culture of enabling in Hollywood, where people truly don’t care how someone destroys himself or others as long as they make a buck for ME?

    • ST

Well said Strepsi, I do think that’s part of the problem. Obviously, Charlie is and should be responsible for himself but since the show is successful, everyone puts on a happy face and let’s him do as he pleases, no repercussions.

    • whatevs

I don’t think it’s just Hollywood. People destroy themselves all the time and no one cares.

      • angie

Seee Lindsay Lohan should have just learned to work with her addition – ya know if she was showing up to work every day – and doing a good job….He’s a working addict people – he’s probably be doing this crap for years…the only thing that’s going to stop him is (unfortch) death.

      • Cia

It’s true. I had a boss who was killing himself on different drugs. If I ever dared to mention it to him or his boss, I was completely shut down. And this was at a conservative high-tech company. We all had to put on a happy face, deal with the lack of consistent communication, mood swings and long absences. It was easier for everyone to ignore him than address his issues. I found another job and have no ideas whatever happened to the guy.

      • Garry

It’s difficult to must much sympathy for Sheen, or other stars who get the world handed to them on a silver platter (money, limos, servants, yes-men, etc.) but manage to screw up their lives anyway.

      • Riley

We call it a “functioning” alcoholic or addict. I’ve also worked in the past with alcoholics/addicts who actually had no problem showing up to work and doing a good job.

None of them are still alive though.

      • @Riley

And you’re the only one who knows where the bodies are buried, aren’t you?

  • Dicazi

Bleeding ulcer, pancreatitis, and any number of cancers are caused by too much alcohol and can cause severe abdominal pain.

    • TQB

Also withdrawal from your heavier drugs, right?

    • heidi

He’s probably eaten away the lining of his stomach.

  • Constance

Sorry to hear about Charlie Sheen. I love two and a half men and the entire cast. Best of luck to u Charlie. I’m a huge fan and wanted to offer my condolences.

    • Rasseng

Yeah, and you would probably be one of the group of girls partying with him, if you had the chance! What a loser ditz!

      • Superman

You’re a total douche. The woman is expressing concern, one of the rare ones on her. And your gut reaction is to insult her. Go crawl back into your hole; the world doesn’t need your poisonous shadow.

      • Dominic

Condolances? ‘Sorry’? Addicts need reality, not sympathy.

  • cindy

You mean he had a heart attack due to cocaine use….

  • Rusty Shackelford

I need to get him in my dead pool.

    • Pat

      Agreed just die already

    • Wow

We’re not even allowed to pick him in ours. It just unbalances the playing field too much.

  • Yabby

Could be liver failure kicking in…

  • Topper

Why do I have a dreadful feeling that this dude’s got a death wish just around the corner?

    • Tom

Because he acts like he has one?

  • SC

    Delicious karma.

  • Elton John

And it seems to me that you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
    Never knowing who to kidnap
    When the coke kicked in
And I would have liked to know you
But I was just a kid
Your heart gave out long before the drugs ever did.

    • Rasseng

      Moron!

      • AD

Someone pens a clever parody and you call him a moron? You’re lower than a moron.

  • Rasseng

Just Friggin’ die already! He is not even that talented of a person. He is an embarrassment to his entire family! He should’ve taken the name Estevez, instead of his brother. What a loser!

    • Miss Talk

Ummm, “Estevez” is the family real name. “Sheen” is the name that got his father a career in Hollywood.

  • rwolosyn

He went from Oscar status to byte status. He has no respect for himself, his family or for the idiots, like me, who wish he could understand beyond the first dimension of self identification.

He has screwed up his life and yet the producer’s expect us to forgive him for his
    professionalism.

I’m sorry, but “they shoot shoot horses”. Don’t they?.

  • pollux

    What about Rose and Bernard?

    • hphillips

      LMAO!!!
