Zombie show coming to The CW

Zombies, the latest in primetime TV fashion.

The brain-eating living dead are now shambling their way over to The CW, which is developing a script for The Awakening, about two sisters who face off against each other just as the zombie apocalypse kicks in.

The project is written by William Laurin and Glenn Davis (The Listener) and comes on the heels of NBC developing Zombies vs. Vampires (which, of course, follows the success of AMC’s The Walking Dead — I know, October can’t come soon enough!).

    Well, I love zombies…

But all these zombie related things may make me hate them like I’m starting to despise vampires.

    • Lame!

LAME! This is an obvious knock-off of the Walking Dead! And since this is on the CW, the theme will be sex with a side of zombies. Necrophila anyone? LAME!

      • Will

Super lame. What the hell does it mean when “two sisters who face off against each other”?

      • hmm

        i dont care.

walking dead made 6 episodes then fired all writers and now let us fans wait for year and half. if they cant provide, someone else will :)

      • davey

Thanks Will for asking the question that I didn’t understand either??? Two sisters who face off against each other ….what?

      • trololo

Who cares? Walking Dead is a load of crap.

      • Emtae

Not reall sure to take this seriously as this is the CW. So, I figre that the “2 sisters” will be hotties, I’m assuming that there will be hot zombies too, and there will be humorous dialogue like; “I can’t wait to find out if you taste as good as you look”.. and

    • rerun

      Pass.

    • jake wilson

i would have to agree but true blood and the walking dead are two id say are still good as they sort of started the trend

      • MissVampireDiaries

        You mean Twilight.

      • myprettypony

        you mean buffy.

  • UGH

I wish someone would resurrect that Babylon Fields zombie-drama that was shopped around a couple of seasons ago.

    • Steven

YES! That was such a good pilot! CB really missed out on that!

  • ashley

….I love the Walking Dead-really well done. this just seems like it’s hopping on the train.
i guess aliens are next, after zombies are done? (as in, milked to DEATH?)

    • mario

have you not noticed that this is the way networks work? they see something successful on some other network and try to get the same thing going for theirs. its the nature of the game. look at the GLEE rip-offs soon coming to a tv near you.

  • Bette

CW will never surpass The Walking Dead. Come up with an original idea why don’t you.

    • Mike

In CW’s defense, VAMPIRES were being done to death and they struck with The Vampire Diaries which is doing really well for them. But, yeah, I can’t see anything matching up to the quality we’ve seen with The Walking Dead so far.

      • James Hibberd

I rolled my eyes too, but Mike does make a good point… what’s funny is NBC trying to do zombies after having turned down The Walking Dead…

      • Emtae

I agree VD works for the CW because in comparison to that twi crap, sure the angsty teenish romance stuff is there it’s better written and better acted. The WD is already well written (coming from some great source material) and the focus has been more on the survivors with the zombies in the background. I’ll give the CW show a look hoping it’ll be more VD, and less twilite with hot shirtless zombie with great abs…

  • Rusty Shackelford

    Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies. YAWN!!!!!

  • Asha

I’m too upset over the end of Life Unexpected to be happy for the CW.

    • Lame!

Actually, that’s one death that I DID enjoy! I got so sick and tired when every other commrecial was for that show just before it premiered. If I saw that blonde girl say one more time in a commercial “I’m your daughter” I was going to puke!

    • sally1018

me too!! At least the series finale was excellent and left no one hanging

  • Chaz Winterbottom

Since this is on the CW are these going to be tween zombies?

    • Mike

or tweens DEALING with zombies lol

      • Chaz Winterbottom

I can already hear them being called zOMGies.

      • jayemeff

        I thought tweens were zombies…?

      • The kettle

        Chaz FTW!

  • Breckster82

one thing is for certain – during this zombie outbreak, the leads will still have time to make sure their makeup and hair is perfectly applied.

  • SirLizard

Why? I think that “The Walking Dead” completely satisfies my television zombie cravings, so this news is not particularly thrilling to me.

  • KC

    Come on now, Be original!
So tired of hollywood Jock riding other shows. That what takes away from the 1st. I hope all of the others flop and keep my show rolling!

  • jemma

Just don’t cast Katie Cassidy in the lead role

  • Pamster

I’ll watch! Apparently I love zombies, which I kind of found out by accident this last Halloween. I always love something scary and gory but I watched Dead Set on IFC then Walking Dead on AMC and I CANNOT GET ENOUGH! I will take more zombies, please. Plus, I would love to see someone like the CW try to make zombies sexy. lol. Epic fail. Vegan girl falls in love with zombie boy.

    • Jimmy rooks

I absolutely love zombie movies. Even lame ones like “Dead\Alive” out of New Zealand had a charm for me

  • M&M

    My Zombie-themed TV network pitch:

“On November 13, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence; that request came from his wife. Deep down, he knew she was right, but he also knew that some day he would return to her. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the gravesite of his zombie friend, Oscar Madison. Several years earlier, Madison’s wife had murdered HIM, never thinking that HE could ever return. Can a divorced man and a zombie share an apartment without driving each other crazy?”

    Oooooooooo – I SMELL HIJINKS!!!

    • Kent

Now there’s a spin on a classic I could embrace!

  • CaptainDeliciousCocoapapayaberrynanastrawmelongerinesFlavouredDeath

I get that The CW is capitalizing on a trend but honestly, Zombies aren’t a big draw for 13 year-old girls. The Vampire Diaries made sense given Twilight but The Walking Dead isn’t really their demographic.

    • steph

There are zombie young adult fiction books. I’m pretty sure they have romance. Tweens will buy anything.

  • darthwilson

Can’t anyone come up with an original idea anymore?

    • Clete

Your talking about television? Orginal idea, get real. Television takes one orginal idea and proceeds to beat it soundly to death.
