ABC Family orders three shows, including Raven-Symoné's 'Georgia'

ABC Family has picked up three new series, including The Great State of Georgia starring Raven-Symone.

Georgia is a half-hour comedy based on a feature film of the same name. It stars Raven-Symone as an “aspiring actress with a larger than life personality” who, along with her science geek best friend (Majandra Delfino), try to make headway in New York City.

Switched at Birth starring newcomer Katie Leclerc is a one-hour scripted drama, tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital: “Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood.”

The Nine Lives of Chloe King is a one-hour drama starring Skyler Samuels (The Gates) as a girl who “starts developing heightened abilities and discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Chloe soon learns she’s part of an ancient race which has been hunted by human assassins for millennia — and that she may be their only hope for ultimate survival.”

Each show has been picked up for 10 episodes.

Where’s the love for Tempestt Bledsoe? But hey, at least they aren’t cop/doctor/lawyer shows. Yet.

    • Antonio

She is the new host of Clean House.

      • Blame Leno!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Sorry I loved Nicey…I really did and Tempest has a bit of a ‘tude. She’s not as compassionate or effortlessly funny as Nicey. Ah well, I guess it was time for Nicey to move on but I’ll miss her. I’m sure will be fine but those are some tough shoes to fill.

The premise for The Nine Lives of Chloe King sounds kinda cool, but I’ve never really watched any ABC Family shows. Aren’t there shows a bit watered down and directed more at the tween and teen set? Someone let me know if I’m wrong.

    • Chris

      You’re not wrong.

    • Summer

You aren’t. The few shows they had which weren’t strictly for the t(w)een set – like The Middleman – did not last.

  • Jeff Greenstein

Georgia is an original script by me & Jennifer Weiner. Not based on a feature.

    • John

Just because you are the actual writer of the script you think you can dispute the excellent fact checking of EW.com? How dare you!

    • trish

Jennifer Weiner the author of Good In Bed? I love her!!

  • RB

The Nine Lives of Chloe King sounds similar to the story line of I Am Number Four.

  • RAM

The nine lives of chole king sounds interesting, but sklyer samuals was really annoying in the gates, so it probably won’t be that good. I’m glad for raven though, she is looking really good.

  • Steven

I guess that means Lying Game wasn’t picked up.

  • Kevin

I just watched the first season of Drop Dead Diva and one episode had a plot that sounds like 90% similar to Switched at birth. As for Chloe King, let’s just hope it’s not another Kyle XY debacle.

    • Miss Jae

Drop Dead Diva is a GREAT show!

  • Viv

Every time I see an old Jetta, I think of Maria from Roswell. True story.

    • Dee

      This, absolutely.

    • Asha

HAHA!!! Me too, and how many times the bumper fell off that thing. I loved Roswell.

      • phillygirl

I’m lovin’ all this Roswell love! Me too! Now if Jason Behr could get a tv show!

  • Kim E

Yes, it’s Maria from Roswell! I loved that show. Max and Liz 4eva!

  • katie

i hated the ending of roswell.
    but majandra is AWESOME.
i wonder when these shows will premiere….
it’s amazing how the shows on abc family are ALL ABOUT GIRLS.
i’m not complaining, but i think it’s interesting.

  • BigBoo

    My balls itch.

  • Peng9803

Majandra had a really cute ABC Family movie years ago. I wish they would replay it. It also starred Xander from Buffy!

Jeff Greenstein: Jennifer Weiner is great. I look forward to Georgia from both of you.

I love ABC Family and I am not a tween. I am far from it. I have enjoyed most of the shows that have been featured on their network. From Beautiful People to Kyle XY to Greek. The network gives shows a chance. The Middleman was great. The bigger networks would have cancelled that in a heartbeat when it didn’t make record numbers. ABC Family kept pushing and trying. It’s too bad. But at least they aired all the episodes. How many other networks would have?

  • Jonathan

I’ll watch ‘Georgia’ just because I love Raven. Even if it’s awful, I may even keep watching for her.

    • Carol

I’m also looking forward to seeing the talented Raven back on TV again. I hope its a success for her.

      • Lorie

        Same here. I love Raven.

    • Elizabeth

      Please pair this w/ “Melissa & Joey”…

  • LEX Luther

ABC Family shows are decidely mixed bag, Greek is a really interesting depiction of college greek life while shows like Secret Life just well suck. I think the first 2 show concepts seem typically cheesy abc family tween fare, while the third one could be potentially intruiging like other Abc family shows such as Kyle XY or the miniseries Fallen were.

  • Shelly

My teenage daughter used to try to get me to watch Family Channel shows with her. And I agree with Lex about the cheese factor of some of these shows. Secret life of the American Teenager. Secret? really? nothing was “secret”
