'Bones': Details on the Booth-and-Brennan-are-stuck-in-an-elevator episode -- EXCLUSIVE

Categories: Bones, Television, TV Scoop

bonesImage Credit: Brian Bowen Smith/FoxBones returns Jan. 20 with its first new episode of the year, and there’s one thing you can count on: Brennan’s long-awaited confession of her feelings for Booth in the December cliffhanger will be addressed immediately, like in the second scene when Booth tells Sweets about it. The fallout from Brennan opening Pandora’s box again will be a major focus of the second half of the season, executive producer Stephen Nathan says. “We’re dealing with how does this make Brennan feel, how does she move forward, what is the pain that she now carries with her after this confession and how does it affect Booth and Hannah. Does Booth keep that conversation a secret from Hannah? That wouldn’t make their relationship very solid. If he does tell Hannah, how does that make her feel, and what does that do with her relationship with Brennan?” Brennan will try to compartmentalize her feelings, as she’s always done, but she won’t be as successful, he says. And a lot of this will be dealt with in the much-anticipated episode in which Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) get stuck alone together in an elevator. READ FULL STORY »

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars': Video of Clancy Brown's new villain, Savage Opress -- EXCLUSIVE

clone-warsImage Credit: Lucasfilm ltdWe sense a great disturbance in the Force. This Friday, Star Wars: The Clone Wars unleashes its latest villain, Savage Opress. He’s a similarly-horned kinsman of Episode I’s fearsome Sith lord, Darth Maul. But despite his sinister-sounding name — not to mention the episode title, “Monster” — Savage (pronounced Suh-vahj) is one of the most complex baddies Star Wars has ever given us. READ FULL STORY »

'Buffy' writers to pen Syfy's Brit hit -- EXCLUSIVE

Categories: Scoop, Television, TV Biz

Jane Espenson and Drew Z. Greenberg are going to write Syfy’s pilot-in-development Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) — based on the classic British TV show.

Espenson and Greenberg have plenty of Geek TV cred, with Espenson having written for Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse and Greenberg having worked on Dexter and Warehouse 13. Oh, and both wrote for a little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

For those who haven’t heard of this quirky-titled project, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) is about a detective who’s murdered while investigating a case. He returns as a ghost, visible only to his former partner, and helps him solve crimes from beyond the grave. READ FULL STORY »

'Off the Map' ratings not exactly off the map for ABC

off-the-mapImage Credit: Mario Perez/ABCThe debut of Off the Map – ABC’s latest medical drama that is (or isn’t) Grey’s Anatomy in the jungle, depending on who you ask — had a lackluster start on Wednesday: It only came in second in its timeslot among adults 18-49 (a 2.2 rating/6 share) and attracted a mere 7.5 million, according to preliminary ratings. That’s not exactly riveting news for ABC’s heavily-promoted drama, which comes from the auspices of its most important showrunner, Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s, Private Practice).

To be fair, the President’s address from the Arizona Memorial Service disrupted all the network schedules, and ABC, in particular, was forced to air an abbreviated rerun of Modern Family before jumping into the Off the Map premiere. ABC put a happy face on Map’s debut by saying it brought 70 percent more total viewers and 83 percent more adults 18-49 to the hour — but the network had to be hoping for more from Rhimes’ show. Maybe that’s why ABC decided to reschedule the show tonight so folks will get another chance to watch.

ABC still won the night among 18-49 (2.9/8) and viewers (9 million), thanks to the huge fan base that continues to follow Modern Family. Barack Obama’s address messed up the comedy’s start time, but the combo of the President and Family earned a 3.6/10 and 10.2 million at 9, while an original of the sitcom and a partial rerun of it posted a 3.7/10 and 10.1 million at 9:30. An original of The Middle at 8 earned a 3.1/9 and 10.5 million.

NBC was second for the night in the demo (1.8/5) and viewers (6.3 million), with the Peacock’s coverage of the memorial – combined with a special repeat of Minute to Win It — earning a 1.6/5 and 5.4 million from 8-9 p.m. From 9-10 p.m., the Arizona coverage and the second half of a Minute to Win It earned a 1.4/4 and 5 million. Law & Order: SVU posted a 2.5/7 and 8.3 million.

CBS came in third in the demo (1.4/4) and viewers (6.1 million), after airing repeats of The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement. The combination of Obama and Live To Dance earned a 1.3/4  and 6.1 million, while the combo of Live To Dance and The Defenders got a 1.5/4 and 6.1 million. Fox aired a repeat of Raising Hope, Fox News coverage of the memorial, and a repeat of Kitchen Nightmares. It tied the CW in fourth place in the demo (.5/2).

'Vampire Diaries': Sara Canning talks Aunt Jenna's future, Uncle John's return, and Elijah sticking around -- EXCLUSIVE

Sara-Jenna-Vampire-DiariesImage Credit: Quantrell Colbert/The CWSeason 2 of The Vampire Diaries has brought more action for Michael Trevino (Tyler) and Candice Accola (Caroline). Could it be Sara Canning’s turn next? The actress who plays Jenna, Elena and Jeremy’s aunt, says a significant storyline is on the horizon for the character. Will it involve her finally finding out that vampires, werewolves, and witches have been in her house? Okay, that she still can’t say. “Truthfully, I have no idea,” she admits. “I’ve gotten that feeling before and it hasn’t come to fruition. They say, ‘It could happen in two episodes, or it could happen in two seasons.” (That, we can confirm: Exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec will tell you they change their minds about when Jenna and Zach Roerig’s Matt will finally join The Knowing on a week-to-week basis. Do Canning and Roerig have a bet on who finds out first? No, she says. “But we were thinking of making T-shirts that said Team Oblivious Human. I think Zach and I have the same attitude in that we think it’s pretty cool that we’re two of the only characters left that don’t know. There’s still a huge question mark on how our characters will find out and how their lives will be changed, and we still get to have the fun of playing that when a lot of the cast has already gone through that.”) READ FULL STORY »

'Tosh.0' lures biggest audience yet

BET wasn’t the only cable network with record numbers Tuesday night. The third season premiere of Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 delivered 3.6 million viewers — that’s the biggest audience ever for the show, up 107% from its summer premiere. In the adult demo, Tosh got a 2.1, which was bigger than V on ABC last night.

Tosh made headlines over the summer when the comedian hit a previous series high of 2.4 million and surpassed Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as the network’s most popular host. For those who missed it, here’s Daniel at press tour last week defending his show’s racy humor.

Showtime docuseries starring...the S.F. Giants? EXCLUSIVE

Michael-Tollin-GiantsImage Credit: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images; Tatiana Beller/PR PhotosIs Showtime looking to steal a page from the HBO playbook and air its own Hard Knocks-type series? EW has learned that Showtime is in early talks with producer Mike Tollin to do a docuseries that focuses on the San Francisco Giants. Tollin’s an obvious choice to oversee the project, given his previous work on Bonds on Bonds, the 2006 docuseries for ESPN that followed the Giants outfielder through spring training and the baseball season. (Tollin’s got plenty of sports movies under his belt, too, like Varsity Blues, Coach Carter, Hardball, and the under-appreciated Summer Catch. And, let’s not forget his work on Smallville and One Tree Hill, too!).

HBO’s Hard Knocks debuted in 2001 as the first-ever sports reality series that goes behind-the-scenes with a pro football team. It launched with the Baltimore Ravens; the most recent addition focused on the New York Jets. The docuseries, on average, lured 4.6 million viewers for each episode.

FX's 'Lights Out' debut takes ratings punch

"You not watchin' my show? Huh?!" (Craig Blankenhorn/FX)

FX’s new boxing series didn’t deliver a knockout punch in the ratings Tuesday night, and instead took a few body blows from Nielsen (and the fighting puns will stop …. now).

Looks like only 1.5 million viewers (793,000 million adults 18-49) watched the series premiere, which not only is far cry from the mega opening of last year’s Justified (4.2 million), but also was on par with the now-deceased Terriers (1.6 million, though Lights out did edge out Terriers by 17% in the adult demo).

Showtime passes on 'The Kennedys'

Kennedys-Holmes-KinnearImage Credit: Splash NewsWell, that’s that: Showtime has apparently decided not to buy The Kennedys, the eight-part miniseries-cum-hot potato that was dropped by The History Channel last week. Now it’s anyone’s guess where the movie from the Canadian-based Muse Entertainment ends up, though an exec told the New York Times that “there has been interest expressed by several networks.” Gee, wonder who?
