'Portlandia' sneak peek: Aubrey Plaza is a thief! -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

If you didn’t catch the premiere of Portlandia on IFC last week, join the club…of losers. Because until you check out this Fred Armisen-helmed sketch show, you’re missing out.

The first episode was a perfect introduction to the uncomfortable, subculture-mocking humor that’s the show’s hallmark, but by no means do you need to have watched it in order to jump right into this week. (Although, if you want a taste of what you missed, you can watch some clips on Hulu.) And below, check out an exclusive clip from the second episode, featuring Parks and Recreation‘s Aubrey Plaza as the unfortunate patron of a feminist book store with the two most awful clerks you’ve ever seen on TV (to the left of Armisen’s gray-haired granola goddess is co-star Carrie Brownstein). Enjoy! READ FULL STORY »

Edgar Allan Poe, the TV series? More pilot pickups

Categories: Television, TV Biz

There’s been a flurry of pilot pickups over the last 24 hours and I’ve been waiting for a truly intriguing one to kick off a rundown post and — hello — we have a winner: ABC has ordered a crime drama where Edger Allen Poe solves mysteries.

I know. It sounds like some kind of dream within a dream. But here’s the official description for Poe: “Crime procedural following Edgar Allan Poe as the world’s very first detective, using unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston.”

Thus quoth the raven: “What the f–k?” READ FULL STORY »

'Skins' ratings drop sharply for second episode: What's to blame?

MTV can’t catch a break with Skins. After the teen drama’s strong debut last week, the ultra-controversial series fell 52 percent in the ratings for its second episode. Monday’s airing delivered 1.6 million viewers after last week’s 3.3 million.

Here’s three possible reasons for the drop:

No Shore. The Skins premiere had a 7-million-plus lead-in from an original episode of Jersey Shore, while last night only had a Shore repeat. With that kind of huge initial push, the network expected at least some ratings decline. READ FULL STORY »

'Jersey Shore' goes to Italy for season 4

Categories: Television, TV Biz

MTV just announced there will be a fourth season of Jersey Shore (world’s loudest “duh!”) and that the show will go to Europe (equally loud “huh!”).

The crew will visit Italy, drop in on Vinny’s family, and “trade gorillas for Italian stallions.”

“While the stateside Jersey Shore locales have become iconic for our audience, it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic amongst the cast that keeps them coming back each season and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us,” said Chris Linn, executive vp of programming for MTV. “The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.”

'Skins' star Sofia Black D'Elia: 'I'm much more concerned with the opinions of the teenagers of America than the parents'

The second episode of MTV’s much-discussed teen drama Skins focused on lesbian Tea (Sofia Black D’Elia) and her own struggles with revealing her sexuality to her tight-knit family. D’Elia, a 19-year old New Jersey native who had previously only acted professionally in a brief stint on the soap All My Children, said she based Tea on one of her high school pals. “Tea for me actually was very similar to one of my friends growing up in high school,” says D’Elia. “I kind of used her as my sounding board.” EW talked to the actress more about last night’s emotional episode as well as the controversy surrounding the rookie series.  READ FULL STORY »

Castle-Will-BeallImage Credit: Adam Taylor/ABC; Jesse Grant/Getty ImagesSPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen tonight’s episode of Castle, do not read the Q&A below. You’ve been warned.

Three-and-a-half seasons of build up led to tonight’s heart-tugging episode of Castle, in which Beckett and her handsome devil of a partner sealed the deal in an alley — as part of a decoy. Well, at least it started off that way. As you’ll read in my interview with episode writer Will Beall (who recently signed on to pen the new Lethal Weapon movie) and creator/writer Andrew Marlowe, the repercussions of the pair’s long-awaited smooch will be just as real as that second kiss was. The CW reality project pairs haters with celebrities -- EXCLUSIVE

If there’s one celebrity you just cannot stand,* The CW might give you the chance to confront them — and the star a chance to win you over.

That’s the idea behind a new reality show in development at the network called H8R.

The CW has no comment on this early-stage project, but sources say H8R is casting for everyday people who really-really-really dislike a particular celebrity, and trying to pair them with the famous person of their dreams nightmares (now if only The CW could figure out how to get rid of comment board trolls too … just imagine, no trolls, no haters, why, the Internet would be all puppies and rainbows). Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey (Extra) is producing the project.

So let’s tee this up: If you were on this show, which celebrity do you totally despise … but would be willing to meet?

*I’m looking at you, Josh Harnett
