'CSI' scoop: Marg Helgenberger wants to do only 'a few episodes' next season

Categories: CSI, TV Biz, TV Scoop

csi-marg-helgenbergerImage Credit: Sonja Flemming/CBSThis should come as some relief to CSI fans: Though Marg Helgenberger’s contract on the CBS procedural expires at the end of this season, the actress is expected to return to the show in some capacity next fall.

Here’s the rub, though: It doesn’t sound like she’ll play Catherine Willows for an entire season. The actress told People that “we’re talking maybe [only] doing a few episodes” so the 52-year-old actress can return to the theater. “The older you get, the more comfortable you become with who you are and who you are continuing to become,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter.”

Refrain from panicking just yet, though: One insider says its unclear how many episodes Helgenberger will ultimately do because her new deal has yet to be finalized. So stay tuned.

Helgenberger has been on the show since its 2000 premiere and the third original cast member to consider giving up series regular status. Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown) departed in 2008, followed by William Petersen in January 2009 — though he recently reprised his role of Gil Grissom in the Feb. 3 episode. It’s doubtful this round of amateur hoofers will rally the Tea Partiers to park their butts in front of the TV but hey, stranger things have happened on the ABC competition show that returns March 21.

Charlie Sheen says he'd apologize to Moonves, puts down John Stamos as 'Men' replacement

UPDATE: Forget Oprah, Charlie Sheen should have his own channel.

The actor’s media tour continues Monday night with an appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, followed by a return visit to NBC’s Today show tomorrow morning, and then Access Hollywood that evening.

On Morgan, Sheen said that he would apologize to CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves and seemed to shrug off his earlier demand for a Two and a Half Men salary raise to $3 million per episode. “That was stupid,” he said.

When Morgan said the actor has taken cocaine, Sheen quipped: “I’m not taking it, I had to pay for it.” READ FULL STORY »

'Two and a Half Men' crew will get paid

Charlie Sheen may not be getting paid for the canceled Two and a Half Men episodes — but the show’s crew is.

Sources confirm to EW that Warner Bros. will pay the Men team for four of the eight episodes that were lost due to CBS and the studio halting production on the show. Men exec producer Chuck Lorre, a studio source says, was instrumental in pushing through the payday. One estimate put the cost of reimbursing the crew for the four episodes at $2 million.

“It’s a start,” Sheen told the AP when he was told the news, noting that payments for co-stars Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones should be “next.”

Sheen lawyer: Pay him for dumped episodes!

An attorney for Charlie Sheen has fired off a letter to Warner Bros. TV seeking payment for the eight episodes of Two and Half Men that were never produced for CBS, EW has confirmed.

As first reported by TMZ, Hollywood attorney Marty Singer is hoping to recoup the millions that Sheen was set to earn for the episodes that were ultimately dropped when the actor agreed to undergo rehabilitation. After a month away from the set, the studio announced production of Men would resume today – but it would only produce four rather than the originally agreed upon eight episodes that would have fulfilled its order to CBS.

Sheen then went on a radio tirade last week that resulted in both CBS and Warner Bros. announcing that it was pulling the plug on the highly rated sitcom for the rest of season. EW learned that creator Chuck Lorre – if not other members of the Men writing team – did not want to continue working with the actor, which in essence (a legal phrase) made it impossible to continue work on the comedy.

While the new group of players has yet to be announced, ABC has been holding casting events (a.k.a. reunions/hook-up fests) with Bachelor/Bachelorette alumni for the past few months — and a network spokesman says producers are “open to all suggestions” from fans. (In fact, I have it on good authority that Team Bachelor reads the message boards on EW.com, so be sure to post your nominees below!) Chris Harrison will return as host.

The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor Pad are all produced by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television.

'Lost' star Josh Holloway to star in 'Community' finale -- EXCLUSIVE

community-hollowayImage Credit: NBC; Angela Weiss/Getty ImagesSawyer, its about time you showed up on TV again! EW has learned exclusively that Josh Holloway — who played James “Sawyer” Ford on ABC’s Lost — is in the process of closing a deal to make a cameo in Community’s two-part season finale. It’s set for May but no date has been announced.

Holloway’s character will emerge as a mysterious figure who shows up on campus during another game of paintball. The two-parter is a sequel, of sorts, to “Modern Warfare” — last year’s memorable episode that began with the Dean announcing a prize for a game of paintball. It devolved into campus-wide battle.

There were some rumors floating around Hollywood that Holloway was a contender for NBC’s remake of The Rockford Files, but the project never emerged from development hell. The actor ultimately signed a deal to co-star in the sequel Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Official: Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green to join NBC's 'Idol' rival -- EXCLUSIVE

Cee-Lo-Adam-LevineImage Credit: Debby Wong/PR Photos; Andrew Evans /PR PhotosMark Burnett and NBC pulled it off: Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine have signed to join the singing competition series The Voice.

The pop star duo will give NBC a chance to steal some thunder from Fox’s American Idol when the new series debuts this April. “I am so happy that Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green have joined the coach panel for The Voice,” executive producer Mark Burnett tells EW. “Aside from being incredible voices, they bring years of experience in the music industry and a really cool vibe that has never been seen before on a music competition series.”

“We want The Voice to be a search by relevant artists for relevant artists,” added NBC’s Executive VP of Alternative Programming Paul Telegdy. “Every person who sits on our panel can do what it is that they’re judging.”

NBC has also set a premiere date for the show: Tuesday, April 26 at 9 p.m., in a two-hour debut. The show will shift to its regular time period on May 10 at 8 p.m.

EW first reported that the singers were in negotiations for the gig last week. There’s still two seats left to fill, and that judge/coach may be the most intriguing of all: Christina Aguilera remains in talks to join the show.

Telegdy says he was impressed with Levine after seeing the Maroon 5 singer visit Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. READ FULL STORY »

'All About Aubrey': Sneak peek at former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O'Day's reality show -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Back in October 2008, music mogul Diddy famously broke up the fledgling girl group he had created, Danity Kane, by ceremoniously removing the foursome’s bad-girl lead singer Aubrey O’Day (and, yes, D. Woods, too) live on MTV’s Making the Band. Since her exit, the always-buzzy Ms. O’Day, 26, has been doing acting and singing gigs here and there, but it seems she was really just killing time until she could get back to where she feels most at home: in front of the reality TV cameras. Her new docu-series, All About Aubrey — which will mostly chronicle her attempts to rebuild her music career — debuts on Oxygen March 7 at 10 p.m.

EW has an exclusive clip from the premiere episode; the scene we have finds Aubrey on day one of her dancing lessons with her old choreographer, who immediately tells her that she’s gotten bigger and needs to lose some weight. READ FULL STORY »
