Image Credit: Pixplanete/PR PhotosLarry Hagman is a lock! TNT confirmed today that Larry Hagman will participate in the Dallas reboot that’s in the works at the cabler. Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray will also appear in the pilot that’s based on characters created by David Jacobs and executive produced by Cynthia Cidre (Cane).
The original Dallas aired from 1978 to 1991 and followed the Ewing family of Southfork. (Hagman played J.R. Ewing, Gray played his wife, and Duffy portrayed J.R.’s younger brother Bobby). The modern story will focus on the Ewing offspring – J.R. Ewing’s son, John Ross, and the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing, Christopher – as they clash over the future of the family dynasty.
Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives) will play John Ross while Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious) will play Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John.
Hagman told EW in September that he continues to make appearances on behalf of Dallas, which syndicates in 60 countries today. ”It’s like an annuity, really,” Hagman said. ”I go out, they adore me, and then they pay you. What better job can you have?”
This isn’t the first time that someone’s tried to revive the Texas oil family drama that aired from 1978 to 1991. In 2006, Twentieth Century Fox decided to adapt the soap for the big screen, closing deals with John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez, and Luke Wilson. But then research indicated that the Dallas brand didn’t mean much to younger moviegoers, says a source close to the project. Travolta and Lopez soon dropped out.

Awesome.
I’m glad the movie didn’t happen. Sue Ellen From The Block would suck.
lol! you are right. “Sue Ellen From The Block”: great quote.
More uninteresting TV for idiots.
So this isn’t a remake, it’s a sequel series. Right?
Yeah, Dallas: The Next Generation.
lol
Yeah, if original characters are reprising their roles, it’s a continuation, not technically a remake.
EW have to stop using the term “reboot”. It isn’t.
And it’s insulting that their bosses presume that none of us will notice these things. Granted, reading comments sections of online news stories demonstrates the sad truth that most people are barely literate, but publishers should have some respect for those of us who aren’t.
I CANT WAIT! JR AGAIN? THATS GREAT!
I was a fanatic of this show from episode 3 on, long before “Who Shot J.R.”. But it never seemed to have the camp value necessary to carry over to new generations and the “Bobby’s Death was all a dream” plot effectively destroyed the show even though it lingered for 5 more years. I hope this new version does well, but I wouldn’t call it a “remake” since it actually involves the next generation.
And wasn’t Christopher actually the illegitimate child of J.R. and Kristin, making Christopher and John Ross half-brothers as well as cousins?
You`re absolutely right!
You are incorrect. Kristin had a miscarriage with J.R.’s baby. Christopher is the son of Kristin and someone else.
The father of Christopher was Jeff Faraday who was killed by cocaine dealers.
Christopher is the son of Kristen Shephard (Sue Ellens sister who shot JR) and Jeff Faraday. They tried to blackmail Bobby and make him think he was JRs, but Jeff is his real dad.
Love it! I just met my real love on a a millionaire dating site RichPassion ℃○M– and we had our first drink about 4 hours after the initial contact. We have just enough in common to get along but just enough differences to make it awesome fun! Ohhh and He is awesomely Rich!!!so i want to share u this nice place!!
They should have Lucy return as well with a wild child daughter, even wilder than she was back in the day. Cliff, Ray and Donna should also make a cameo. Big fan back in the day!
Larry Hagman is 79 years old not 78, his birthday is September 21 1931.
They could also have Pamela Rebecca, Afton Cooper & Cliff Barnes’s daughter who Afton had after leaving Cliff
Oh I forgot about her, her and Afton should return for unfinished business with Cliff.
Ray and Donna haven’t acted in years.
Jesus won’t let them.
So when do we get a Knot’s Landing movie????
They’ll have a heck of a time filming near the old Southfork Ranch. It’s all housing developments there now.
They’ll probably end up filming it on a fake set like they did most of the last several seasons of the show.
Personally, I loved the original series but I think this is going to be a big mistake. Too many years have passed. Plus, Lorimar, who produced the original series is long gone. So is their quality control.
It is NOT a reboot or a remake! It is simply a continuation of the original series.
Big oil is not fascinating any more. Especially with gas over $3 now.
I’d rather see them bring back I Dream of Jeannie than Dallas.
Get Barb to show that Navel!
There was a lot more to it than just oil though. I’m sure they’ll figure something out.
Ewwww . . . I no way want to see a wrinkly old Barbara Eden navel, thank you very much.
im 27 years old and i recently just started watching I dream of Jeannie when larry hagman was on way back when have they thought of doing a spin off of that maybe have jeannie and maj nelson’s daughter or something?
