Image Credit: Alan Zenuk/USA NetworkSome of the folks at USA’s Psych are big fans of the offbeat, early ‘90s drama, Twin Peaks — such big fans that, after their well-received “Dual Spires” homage in December, they might pay homage to David Lynch’s surreal soap a second time.
“Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to do some kind of revisiting of the episode. I know James [Roday] is thinking about it,” Dulé Hill told EW last Saturday at EW’s pre-SAG party. “I know he and Steve [Franks, creator and executive producer] had talked about it. Hopefully we can make it happen.”
The December episode followed Shawn and Gus as they solve a teenage girl’s murder in an isolated village after its annual cinnamon festival goes awry. Seven of the original Twin Peaks cast members had guest roles in the episode, which was replete with Peaks references: Owls, “damn fine” diner food, anagrammed character names, and a host of more subtle nods for fans of the original series.
Hill said that the Peaks cast left a few of his Psych colleagues, including co-stars James Roday and Tim Omundson, pretty star-struck: “They were like little geeks, really. They went gaga over them. James was like, ‘Oh my God.’”
And how did Hill find working with the Peaks alumni? “They were great people. I loved every last one of them.”

I loved this episode and it would be awesome if they did another.
Agree 100% – tons of great winks to the original
Agreed, the Dual Spires episode was pure genius. Bring it on!
Excellent!
I loved the Twin Peaks episode, but it’s time to visit their sister town of Cicely, Alaska. Northern Exposure tribute, anyone?
YES! Northern Exposure!!!!
YES! Also, love the picture with Gus experiencing “sympathetic crying”. haha!
I wasn’t a Twin Peaks fan, so this ep was lost on me. Heck YEAH to a Northern Exposure ep!
It’s too bad, you missed out on one of the best shows ever.
Agree, but it was so interesting in an awkward way so I still enjoyed it =D
I wasn’t a fan either and the episode was lost on me too.
Its not too late the entire series is online to watch for free, check it out you wont be disappointed. Save me a piece of Pie.
I was shocked to get a Peaks shout out during Fringe 2 weeks ago. Walter unveils a pair of red and cyan lensed eyeglasses. He says they are a gift from a Dr. Jacoby in Washington state
Ha! I caught that one too.
I stopped watching Fringe, but that is a great shout out. Walter would fit right in in Twin Peaks.
Holy buckets, I heard him say that, but it didn’t even click! Nice catch.
I loved the episode, but since I’d never seen a single episode of Twin Peaks, I had to look it up on Wikipedia before the homage episode of Psych aired just so I could appreciate it more.
That being said, I don’t think another one is necessary. There are lots of other great movies and shows they could pay tribute to, in my opinion.
Me too! I looked it up on Wikipedia before and after. It was a good episode, but if you have no background, it’s not that great. Lots of other great TV shows they could pay homage to, although I imagine in keeping with the show they want to stick with late 80s/early 90s. Still…what about another episode involving Gus’s mom and guest starring Bill Cosby? THAT would be a good episode.
I would love it. Glee illustrates how to do terrible tribute episodes. Psych illustrates who to do them wonderfully!
It was a fine episode, but for us who were never Twin Peaks fans, I’m sure we missed most of the tributes. But hey, Pysch does good episodes so I’m all in favor of another.
Agreed. I never saw Twin Peaks, and I didn’t understand what the deal was with the owls and things, but I still really enjoyed the episode. I also really like when shows revisit old characters/plots to make it feel a bit more like real life, so even though more Twin Peaks jokes will go over my head, I too am in favor of another!
If the cast and creators are fans of “Twin Peaks” and want to do another episode in tribute, I say, “yes.” They’re not obligated to pay tribute to “Northern Exposure” or any other show. There’s plenty of “Peaks” alums left to guest star – Billy Zane, David Duchovny, Heather Graham, Miguel Ferrer, even Kiefer Sutherland (if they bring in characters from the “Twin Peaks” feature film).
Kyle MacLauchlan! Please!
I could watch Dule Hill and James Roday eat Cinnamon Pie for at least 45 minutes. This show is in my top five series list for sure.
Agreed!
I had never watched Psych before, but as a Peaks fan I had to see this. What a great episode! I would definitely tune in for another, but they did kill off a few good Peaks alums already…
They could always come back for flashbacks or dream sequences.
I’m with TQB- “Dual Spires” was the first Psych episode I watched because I’m such a Twin Peaks fan. I loved the episode, and it was great to see that Dana Ashbrook (AKA Bobby) is as hot as ever. I would love if Peggy Lipton, Madchen Amick, and Kyle MacLachlan showed up in the next one!!!!
I’ve never watched Twin Peaks so the entire episode was lost on me, I hope they don’t do another one.
No, to tributes. Yes, to homage as long as it doesn’t diminish the quality of the show doing the cribbing. So what did I think?… formulaic. Unlike Twin Peaks in it’s first year.
