NBC made four more pilot pickups, including a couple intriguing titles with similar overtones to major hits.
First up, NBC ordered Free Agents as a cast-contingent pilot from Party Down‘s John Enbom, a workplace single-camera comedy about two quirky co-workers (at a Hollywood talent agency, no less — now that’s how you get power players to relate to your script). Both are on the rebound from relationships, one from a divorce and the other from the loss of a fiancĂ©. Like The Office, it’s based on a British comedy.
Next, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen has sold what’s described as an “Inception-style” drama to the network. REM is a “procedural hybrid which follows the simultaneous and parallel lives of a detective who can not let go of any aspect of his fractured family after a horrible car accident.” BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHM…
Obviously, REM is a bold idea for broadcast. And what’s interesting is that NBC has been scaling back on the so-called “confusing” time-shifting employed in The Event.
NBC also picked up an untitled project from Dan Goor, one of the producers of Parks and Recreation. The concept is about a young doctor who “joins his parents’ medical practice and spends as much time tending to his family as to his patients.”
Also, Love Lives, a multi-camera comedy from Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), described as “a sophisticated and adult multi-camera comedy about two couples and their challenges of love and infidelity.”

The Killen pilot sounds cool. Hope more people watch it than Lone Star.
nah, instead they should bring back Legend of the Seeker, there are no fantasy shows on tv, enough with the crime dramas, medical shows, etc they should try something different
When watching a show, people are not aware of “single camera” or “multi-camera.” Why bother to mention this?
That means whether or not there will be a laugh-track/live studio audience.
I’m interested .
“The Office” is a comedy?
At one time it was. Not so much anymore.
REM sounds interesting. I’ll give that a shot.
I am okay with The Event and The Cape but what about shows already in the can? Are they that bad? Why not show them…like FWB or is it too terrible to see the light of day?
Each one sounds worse than the one before.
Bingo.
Can you say creatively bankrupt? It looks like NBC’s suckage continues.
NBC Thursday sitcoms are the best on tv right now….
more people should watch them…
agreed!!!!! community is my fave!!!!!!
REM sounds good, but it will never work on a network like NBC.
cancelled, cancelled, cancelled, cancelled. they already have an ‘office’ like show and it’s called ‘parks&rec’
REM sounds interesting. I was both a big fan of Inception….and Lone Star- so let’s hope this one does well creatively, AND in the ratings!
Such a shame Lone Star did so poorly…….
Yup, this’ll help for sure.
Unless Chris Nolan is writing and directing the pilot and subsequent episodes of the ‘Inception’ style one, I’m not interested.
Next!
Well unless Chris Nolan was writing or JGL decided to give up film and star on tv I think you mean.
+1. By trying to tie into Inception they’ve already lost me.
NBC will have another unsuccessful fall set of new shows…They are such a joke.
NBC can’t seem to get good new shows together. But they still have the top two shows on tv in 30 Rock and Parks & Rec. The Office is not as good as it once was but it’s still better than most. SVU is still a good show. Those 4 are better than any other networks top 4 shows. No doubt about it. ABC is solid, FOX has a couple decent things and CBS is just pathetic.
Just because a show is a “workplace comedy” doesn’t meant it’s like The Office. The premise of the show doesn’t sound anything like The Office. I’ll certainly check it out, especially since the guy behind it helped bring us Party Down.
@Dave, you’re right. Free Agents reminds me of Entourage more than The Office.
As for that list of pilots, I might check out REM, but the premise listed doesn’t tell me enough to keep me interested.
