'Terra Nova' Super Bowl trailer

terra-novaFox gave Super Bowl viewers this first look at its upcoming Steven Spielberg-produced action-adventure-dinotastic drama series Terra Nova (here’s our take on the extended trailer the network showed critics in January). It’s a big primetime bet that the network will launch with a two-night preview in May, with the rest of the season picking up in the fall. The fierce dino at the end, I believe, is a Carnotaurus … or is it an Avatarasaurus? Here’s the trailer:

This show is going to get canceled so fast.

  • JC

I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time but it looked kind of cheesy. Just didn’t feel right for some reason. I’ll still watch but my hopes have dwindled. Was not expecting a trailer though! Cool to at least finally see what it’s going to look like.

So… Avatar: The TV Show with dinosaurs instead of blue martians? Hmmm…

    • ks

I was thinking Jurassic park meets Swiss family Robinson

  • Dr. Grant

Going to be called a Carnotaurus? There actually was a dinosaur by that name. It was the main meat-eater in the Disney film “Dinosaur”.

  • VLh

IT looks like it should be on the syfy channel.

    • Chaz Winterbottom

      Big time.

  • Luca

When I heard there was going to be a show about a group of folks sent back to the dino age I thought it sounded awesome. Let them try to live in the rough etc.

but if they are bringing all their guns etc, it’s just cheesy. I can’t even buy the whole ‘chance to star over’ schtick cause with all that tech they will just screw up the world even earlier in history etc

  • Jason

    it sucks…

    • zack

      What about the Butterfly Effect!

  • Jason

Syfy chanel level stuff. Hope I’m wrong. I really like Stephen Lang, but isn’t he playing the same character from Avatar. I predict big ratings in May, then cancelled after one shortened season. The next Invasion, Threshold, Flash-Forward, The Event, etc.

    • A

Let’s hope he isn’t similar to his character from Avatar, seeing as how that character sucked.

  • Brian

If their plan is to alter time to advance humanity beyond the point where it is where they came from (or a side-effect of going back in time is creating an alternate universe), then this will be good. But if not, they’re going to create a paradox that’ll ruin the logic of the show.
But so far, this looks cool!

    • JLC

I was kind of wondering about the time travel paradox aspects myself. They would have to create an alternate timeline so as not to mess up the timeline they came from, thus preventing themselves from coming back, etc.
If you were going to go back, though, wouldn’t it be easier to go to the period just after the last ice age? A few big mammal predators, but nothing like a carnotaurus.

  • Wil

    That looks SO expensive. O.o
I was actually expecting to completely hate that commercial. It’s not awful, just ‘meh’…

  • Ryan

I decided a while back I wasn’t going to watch/read any more stories about how Man polluted ad ruined the planet. It’s not a political decision. I just think its been done way too often and it’s lazy and unimaginative writing. Can’t they come up with a original plot device?

  • Summer Bay

I’ve seen that show somewhere before…. Primeval but with actually $$$$ spent.

    • Ryan

I love Primeval. I think lack of $$$$ spent can give a show heart.

      • Deb

I love Primeval too. So the CGI isn’t the best – it’s still a good show. I’ll give this one a try.

  • Jack Nolte

You guys don’t know what you are talking about. Pilot itself cost a lot of money, I repeat, a lot of money. This is nothing like Avatar. Just wait and you shall see, that dinosaurs are only the beginning of something greater. Terra Nova has a potential to be the best series ever created. You have no clue how hard it was for the staff of hundreds of people to create a single scene and make it believable.
    You will praise this show.

    • Ryan

I hope you’re right. Blame the publicity people for not selling your thoughts with that million $ commercial.

    • Marty

It’s a scifi show on FOX. They will kill it after one season.

      • Jack Nolte

Hey, McFly. Doc needs you at his lab. He says that its an emergency!

  • Annette

They already had this show it’s called Lost In Space! How does nobody know that!

  • Matt2

I bet this will be one very expensive bomb. The preview was as cheesy as one of those Sharktopus movies on the SYFY channel. Yeah, that bad. The thought went through my head as the trailer ended that I had seen this before when it was a well made trailer and movie called Jurassic Park.

    • Kelly

My first thought. Just from that preview, it looks more expensive than Terminator was during S1. Fox has a very mixed record with sci fi/fantasy, which doesn’t bode well for this.

If anything, this show better not be the one that gets Fringe canceled.
