Image Credit: Barry King/FilmMagic.comBrittany Robertson now has a back-up plan.
She’s been cast in The CW’s promising supernatural pilot Secret Circle.
The casting is in “second position” to Robertson’s starring role on Life Unexpected, which is on the bubble for renewal. The CW has not yet decided on the show’s fate and casting actors in a new project when their current series is still part on a network’s lineup is increasingly common this time of year. Still, the casting could in theory impact the fate of Unexpected if The CW loves the Secret Circle pilot (and Robertson in it), and decides that new project is a better fit than Unexpected for one of its fall slots.
Secret Circle is based on a series of books by author L.J. Smith about a young woman who moves to a new town and discovers that not only is she a witch and part of a secret coven, but she’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil. It’s from Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.

omg, i hate articles like this
the producers ENDED LIFE UNEXPECTED ON AIR
THERE IS NO CHANCE ITS COMING BACK
STUPID CW JUST SAY ITS OVER
and as for journalists, if u saw the series finale u would know there is no way this show comes back
I hear you … I just checked and the official stance remains not canceled. Now, would I bet on it coming back? Hells no.
is it me or does this new show sound like a more dramatic Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Now that is a show that should come back, along with the rest of TGIF ( I miss the 90s)
LUX was one of the rare great family shows, like Everwood. CW president has never made a good choice in her life. Stupid idiot.
Television executives don’t randomly decided what to renew and what to cancel. TV audiences make the choices. Not enough cared about LUX. It’s that simple.
I will cling to my hope for LUX’s renewal until the bitter end!
Seriously. I mean come one they replaced it with Shedding for the Wedding. Like that’s going to be some huge hit. I’m keeping the faith until I hear the official word. Even if it does somehow survive I could see it easily jumping in where it left off on the finale and it not being a huge deal. TV shows do it all the time. I have the faith.
Was Life Unexpected not officially cancelled? The show certainly aired a “series finale” last month…
Not officially. But for all intents and purposes, it’s a goner.
which sucks ass cause life unexpected was epicly awesome
way to recycle your actors, CW!! Green campain, no waste… I’m sad for LUX though, i liked this show
They are good about recycling. See, Lux’s Mom from “Roswell”, Ryan from “Dawson’s Creek”, naughty teacher from “Melrose Place”. I loved Life Unexpected and I will also continue to hold out a small bit of hope that it will return.
See, The CW thinks its fooling people, knowing full well it has cancelled LUX, but not wanting to admit it and feel the backlash from fans. It’s actually an insult to our intelligence to assume otherwise.
That said, LOVE Britt Robertson. She’ll be great.
She’s been awesome since her part on the much loved, except by CBS, “Swingtown”.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe they are making a Secret ircle series too! This is amazing!!! Now if only they would make Night World and the Forbidden Game all of my LJ Smith dreams would come true!!
I totally agree I loved this series growning up! I hope they look at Night World instead of Forbidden Game. Or they could use Dark Visions which would be cool too. Forbidden game was okay. Night World would definitely rock. I remember as a teen years ago WANTING these to go to TV badly…and omigod they are! Finally! I wasn’t thrilled with the casting on Vampire Diaries except for Damon and Caroline…everyone else is so not who I imagined well maybe Tyler but still. I hope they don’t screw up the others casting-wise.
Happy for Britt, but not liking the new show idea. I’m so sick of vampires and wolves who look like models. I remember when they actually scared the heck out of me – not wonder what the lastest fashion they are wearing. LUX is toast and everyone knows it. Liz Tigelaar is already conjuring up a new show idea – at a new job, so rabid fans need to just let it go. Nothing is forever in TV – especially if its good.
As a fan of The Secret Circle books I hate the idea. Know what they already did to VD ( I get changes r needed 4 Tv) The witch in the books Cassie Was blond but I never pictured her that Model Tiny The whole thing makes my stomach turn.
Cassie wasn’t blond in the books….
LUX has NOT been officially canceled. The CW advertised the last aired episodes as the “season” finale. I love that show, but it doesn’t look good. The last show scored its highest ratings, so who knows? It’s like the CW just loves to cancel great shows and pick up shows that only appeal to comic book fans and high school students.
It may have been its highest ratings but the ratings were still terrible. It’s television audiences who love to cancel great shows.
I for one am happy about this! Britt is totally hot and an amazing actress. To be honest, her talent was wasted on snoozefest Life Unexpected.
If there are any delusional fans out there who thinks now that Life Unexpected is returning, this is you’re wake up call that the show is now officially cancelled.
Same thing happened last year when when both Katie Cassidy and Shaun Sipos were casted in other CW shows
when MELROSE PLACE was cancelled and delusional fans were thinking that show was coming back.
What, no vampires?
There is a grand total of two vampire shows out there, True Blood and Vampire Diaries. Why not whine about the glut of repetitive crime procedurals?
If you’ve read The Secret Circle books, you’d see that she’s a good choice for the lead role.
Ehh. Not so much. I’ve read them probably 100 times since I was 11 years old and she just doesnt seem like Cassie to me. Then again I felt the same way about TVDs Elena and although she’s not the Elena from the books I absolutely adore her character on the show. We shall see.
if they are anything like the Vampire Dairies show and the book series then they will be very good with two different stories with the same type of background:)
I love LUX and Britt was excellent in her role, as were all the other actors. Not suprised that the show didn’t do well. A lot of people only care about material/superfical things and Lux was apart from all that crap. I would love for LUX to return. In all fairness the CW should have at least given them the back 9 episodes to finish the season in a decent manner. I have never read The secret circle books or anything else by the author. It sounds semi interesting but I vowed to never watch anything on the CW ever again after the way they did LUX dirty. I will watch the pilot only if Britt stars in it because she is quite the actress and she deserves the recognition. Although, if I were her I would tell the CW to bite me after the way they treated LUX.
Please CW, not another witchcraft show! Come on, can you gt creative and stop relying on vampires, witches and demons? You’ve already got Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries along with a new zombie series for Fall 2011. The WB already had Charmed (witches). Get with it and produce something original that will define the network, much like Dawson’s Creek did for The WB. Stop with the demonic, witchcraft junk!!!
Aww, it’s not THAT bad. The secret circle books are amazing and I personally think it’ll be a pretty cool show
i agree l. j. smith is a wonderful writer
The Secret Circle books came out long before all the Vampire witch craze. Who said anything about Demons? But I get your point at least 1 new show idea would be nice.
You want some cheese with that whine?
I, for one, am glad to see L.U. go. It’s had its time and now it’s time for something new. But as for The Secret Circle? No. There’s already another L.J. Smith show on TV, on the CW, in fact, called the Vampire Diaries.
Turn another author’s books into a series. Say like P.C. Cast’s House of Night or Richelle Mead’s Succubus Blues? I’ll even vote for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. I know they all have Vampires, etc in common, but at least they aren’t L.J. Smith’s!
what’s wrong w/ L.J. Smith?
