Another familiar Hollywood star has been cast in fall TV pilot: Minnie Driver has landed one of the lead roles in CBS’ drama Hail Mary.

Driver will play a suburban single mom who teams up with a street-smart hustler to solve crimes.

The Atlanta-based Warner Bros. pilot has showrunner Ilene Chaiken on board, who created Showtime’s The L Word, along with exec producers Joel Silver and Jeff Wadlow. Driver’s last regular series gig was on FX’s The Riches and last year she appeared in an episode of Modern Family.

      • Alex

  • Chris

Oh boy – another freakin’ crime show. Just what we need.

    • Sally

      My thoughts exactly.

    • Kim

Word! When I clicked on it I knew it would say “as the mother of…” and either have a crime/law/doctor theme.

  • Vince

Much as I like her I happy shes got something to do as her star hasn’t been raising of late.

  • bruno

    i smell cancelled.

  • Vince

    I’m happy

Sigh, I miss The Riches. Minnie Driver deserves so much more than another run-of-the-mill CBS crime procedural.

  • Dana Lee

    Also, bring back The Riches!

I loved the Riches. While I am happy for Minnie Driver, this show already sounds like it sucks just from the description. Is there some sort of catch that might make it interesting? Is she a mystery writer or is she psychic or does she see ghost? Yes, I know these have been done. Is there any reason she should be allowed to solve crimes instead of being charged with obstructing a police investigation?

Another police procedural from cbs, what a shock!!!!!!!!!!

CBS is such a boring paint by numbers nothing original channel. yet its number 1. amazing

    • Michelle

There’s a reason they call it The Old People Channel!

      • @Michelle

Yeah, because there are more of us than you.

As opposed to what? NBC, ABC? NBC couldn’t find a hit with night vision goggles and ABC just stumbles along like a blind squirrel finding a small acorn every now & then.

  • adam

Could CBS be any more generic with their programming? How is this the #1 network? I don’t watch a single CBS show regularly. Make fun of NBC all you want, at least they take some risks with their programming.

CBS did good by bringing Julianna Margulies back to life. I have faith that they can turn up a good show for the very talented and underused Minnie Driver. I’m a tiny bit annoyed that this is going to be yet another crime drama though. It’s odd how all these veteran actors end up doing crime dramas. Why?

  • RafMaf

I hope everyone has a widescreen television.

  • Hoobi

Sorry, I don’t get it. Everyone is complaining about the same old, same old. Yet apparently everyone – save the people on this message board :-) – likes it. No wonder that we get the umteenth law/medical/cop show, whereas highly original shows like “Pushing Daisies”, “Firefly” or “Fringe” (to name but a few) are (going to be) cancelled.

  • lisa

    Who is she??
Sounds like another bad CBS show (pleonasm)
