'Glee' to debut original songs on March 8

glee-sectionalsImage Credit: Justin Lubin/FoxIt was teased at the end of last week’s episode, but now Sony has confirmed that the Glee cast will release two original songs on Glee: The Music, Volume 5, on sale March 8.

Titled “Loser Like Me” and “Get It Right,” the tracks are the first original music to produced for the show. “Loser Like Me,” an ensemble piece, was co-written by pop vet Max Martin, who’s written for the likes of Britney Spears, Pink, and the Backstreet Boys. “Get It Right” is a solo ballad that will be sung by Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry. Both will be featured in the March 15 episode, fittingly titled “Original Song.”

    • Jim

      shut up.

    • Linny

give it a rest. don’t like, don’t watch.

    • DMR

At least Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele and Jenna Ushkowitz have been on Broadway at one time or another. You may not like pop songs but they can sing.

      • anonymous

What about autotune? Have you considered that?

      • Yvette

        You don’t auto-tune Broadway…They’re pure talent.

    • LOL

It’s too late. This show doesn’t matter anymore.

      • Ken

        sure whatever…

      • Jake

thats your opinion! the show still matters to alot of other people!

      • Aly

Wow. I guess that’s why Glee is one of the most watched shows in the US.

      • pen

        Glee’s peaked.

      • anonymous

@Jake: I can imagine a creature that is composed of so many people…

If you don’t get what I’m saying, then too bad.

    • Jane

If you don’t like them that’s fine. But make no mistake- they can sing. Seriously- what’s wrong with people?

    • Tina

ok your are just stupid if you dont like glee then dont read the article.

      • LOL

        Take an English class.

      • matt

I guess they didn’t teach you any grammar at Asian camp.

    • Tarc

Why would anyone care about the opinion of someone that can even do somthing as basic distingushing good vocals (Glee) from bad?

    • lauren

aa….lets be real…i dont like glee…but admit it..they can sing, they are highly talented. its just the show writers dont know how to write a compeling story that sticks more than 1 episode. but they can sing.

    • Anna

I bet you think Bieber has talent…

  • Mike

    Complication album?

    • Frank

      it’s complicated??

  • efrain

Its about time they had original songs! Now it can be an original series!

  • Kim

Hey why not give it a shot…Better than all the top 40 crap they have been doing lately, that is still on the radio anyway.

    • Tarc

Considering that they do 30% standards, and their other songs are a mix of genres, including songs that aren’t current or ever were Top 40, I think you’re blathering.

  • Chris

Glad Lea is getting a original song, she deserves it.

    • Jen

  • Kevin

*Sniff sniff* I smell a train wreck! Why not bring in Jason Robert Brown or even Duncan Sheik, you know, people who actually write songs for musicals? I like Max Martin, but this is exactly the opposite of what should be happening. He’s probably dusting off some old, shelved Britney B-side and calling it new.

    • Teresa

YES! Duncan Sheik would be amazing, and he has already proved that he can write for Lea Michele and Jenna Ushkowitz.

      • sam

        you suck

    • PM

I don’t think Max Martin is dusting out some shelved Britney B-side. He’s always thinking ahead with his songs for artists and will most likely give the Glee group a fresh new song.

  • alex

i have no interest in original songs.. i like the glee songs for their covers and to re-discover songs.

    • Brit

    • Tabitha

I agree…and an original ballad sounds so boring.

    • Mini

That was fine when they were doing great covers instead of crappy top 40 hits. Now, not so much. Bring on the original music.

    • Truthhurts

If you find this garbage impressive, you should check out some local bar’s they do the same thing as glee every week im sure, It’s called karaoke should look into it.

    • Laundry

I agree. It’s not as if the actors who play the characters have written the songs themselves. It’s much more fun to see their take on existing songs. Also, I like that they’re doing Queen covers on Volume 5. If “Fat Bottomed Girls”, how about covering the other song from that double A-sided single, “Bicycle Race”? (“I want to ride my bicycle, La la la la la la…” — oops, forgot the lyrics.)

      • TayMads

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike. I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like. :)

        That’s the rest.

  • come on!

bad idea – don’t do it – the fun is hearing the songs they are covering – BOO!

    • free agent

      I totally agree!!!!!!!

      • sam

i am gad or mad f ugly

  • Tabitha

Is it just me, or is Lea’s singing really whiny this season? Even with positive songs she brings them down.

  • CaptainDeliciousCocoapapayaberrynanastrawmelongerinesFlavouredDeath

Cant wait for the Lea Michele song!

  • Courtney

Worst idea ever. Stick to covers.

  • Bete

Well, I don’t like this at all. They are talented, no doubt about that, but I love to hear them covering song. Some songs are tributes and other are just for fun (like the adorkable Sam singing “Baby” with a boy band routine). The original song idea appears to be something designed to make more money… I just hope it isn’t a cheesy song like the ones they sing in AI finals, but let’s wait and see.

    • pen

Oh man. “Adorkable”? I hope that’s not a new annoying buzzword people will be using now.

    • Jenny

“The original song idea appears to be something designed to make more money…” YOU THINK?

    • Kevin

Yeah, because covering whatever’s popular at the time is done in the name of “artistic integrity.” Idiot.

      • Tarc

Considering that only a small percentage of what Glee covers is ‘current’ music, you really don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • Brandy

I’m actually more excited to see whoever is doing that Joan Jett cover!

  • Tina

Glee had so much potential…and then season 2 came along. Ah well, it happened with Heroes, it happened with Glee. Bye-bye quality, hello money!

  • Jenny

Rachel’s getting a solo ballad? Wow, never saw that coming. So what else is new? I’ll watch it, though. Hopefully the other original song will be good.

    • gigi

That’ll be a facial gymnastics overload.

      • Jones
