'Phineas and Ferb': First look at Season 3 with Jane Lynch and more -- EXCLUSIVE

Phineas-Ferb-Jane-LynchImage Credit: DisneyThe third season of the Disney Channel’s hit animated series Phineas and Ferb is set to premiere March 4 with special guest star Jane Lynch. She’ll play the role of Jeremy’s mother, Mrs. Johnson, in a role that was created for her. EW has the exclusive first look at her animated character, shown above. So how does Mrs. Johnson compare to her Glee character Sue Sylvester? “My character is rather full of herself like Sue, but much more boisterous and self conscious,” Lynch tells EW. “But like Sue, she speaks confidently of things she barely understands.”

Celebrities as varied as Clay Aiken, Chaka Kahn, Kevin Smith, and Cloris Leachman have done spots on Phineas and Ferb before. Lynch, as you might guess, signed on because Phineas is a show she can watch with her children. “I laugh as much as my daughter when we watch,” Lynch says. “That is not the case with other kids shows. I fear they are teaching her bad comedy! Phineas is clever and delightful, with just enough cynicism to keep me coming back.” Plus, the work appealed to Lynch because of her history with voiceovers: “I did voiceovers for years,” Lynch adds, “and I love the work! Providing the voice for a character created and written by such geniuses as the Phineas guys was an honor and delight.”

In addition, the new season of Phineas and Ferb will feature many other new and returning cameos, including Michael Douglas and his 10-year-old son, Dylan; Tina Fey; Michael J. Fox; Anna Paquin; Joan Cusack; Vicki Lawrence; and Jamie Oliver. In fact, the second episode of the season, which airs on March 11, will feature Lawrence, Fey, and Cusack, pictured below. Check out a handful of video clips from the season premiere below.

I have to agree with Jane. I watch with my daughters and get as much enjoyment as they do, very much unlike other kids shows.

  • Craig

Phineas and Ferb is easily the most watchable show my 4yo watches.

  • Cheri

I adore this show beyond belief. So amusing and clever. I have several of the songs on my mp3 player.

    • BJG

I’m with you, Cheri. The music is so imaginative and clever.

  • Amnesia76

I don’t have kids but I LOVE this cartoon. It reminds me of the toons I grew up watching. A real story/plot that and not about battling the last pokemon/dragonball z character of the month.

My family loves this show; me most of all. I’ll watch it even when my kids aren’t around. It’s hilarious and smart. I’m glad to see that adults aren’t ashamed to admit they like it. And quite a few of the catchphrases have made it into our family lingo– “Why yes, yes I am” and “There you are, Perry” and “(insert verb here)-inator”.

Our house, too. And when someone says, “Yes, yes I am,” we call that person Phineas. We are also fond of “The tri-state area!” particularly when said with a Doofenshmirtzian accent.

I have no children, but there is no shame in watching this show as an adult. I consider it one of the sharpest shows on TV, cartoon or otherwise.

    Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated!!

    • Missy

I so agree! I don’t have kids, but I LOVE this show. It’s so clever.

Phineas and Ferb is more delightful and clever than it has any right to be. It’s appointment television for both my 4 year-old and myself.

  • Emily

I find myself laughing at the jokes that go over my kid’s heads, and then I have to explain why something was funny! :) “Aren’t you a little old to be watching this show? Why, yes, yes I am!” :)

  • Josh

I’m actually a 25 year old male, no kids, no nieces or nephews. I ran into this show years ago when it first started and it has become one of my favorite on TV. Can’t wait for season 3 or the movie.

  • heej

No mention of the voiceover-anators they used?

    • Bre

you, my friend, are a genius

  • Joanna

So excited for Phineas and Ferb to come back on! It is so funny! I started watching this with my sister when I was in HS and I still make an effort to watch them.

  • mahovolich

Agreed! So funny with a great subtle snark factor & pop culture riffs.

  • Melissa

    Best kids show ever!

  • Sonny
