Fox renews 'American Dad' through 2013

american-dadImage Credit: FoxThis was an easy decision for Fox: The network is bringing a member of its Sunday Animation Domination task force, American Dad, for a seventh round. The Seth MacFarlane comedy had already been picked up for next season, and this order will extend the show through 2013 (animated shows take a long time to produce, don’t you know … unless it’s South Park).

“This is fantastic news,” said Roger the Alien in a statement. “But you do realize I’m not real, right?”

Awesome news. “American Dad” is a show I grew to love. It started out OK, but around Season 3/4 it became the best show Mr. MacFarlane is responsible for. The characters are funny. The one liners are funny. And the plots are coherent.

“Family Guy” still has at least 1 laugh out loud moment each episode, but it relies way too much on cut away gags lately. It seems like it’s 10 mins of episode and the rest cut away gags. The gags were good before (Especially before the show was canceled), but now they are often ridiculous. The last 2 weeks have been better, but “American Dad” is funnier and has been for a few seasons. I just wish FOX would move it out of that horrible new timeslot.

amen brother. couldn’t have said it better myself

    • Frank

      Agree 1000%.

Glad it’s been renewed (thrilled actually), now let’s get it back in a decent time-slot.

  • Michael

Yesssss! I’m so happy to hear this! I was a little worried when Fox moved it to 7:30 EST, to be honest.

  • Michael

You know when animated shows on fox go Fox is doom

  • Tha Phoenix

LOVE American Dad. And, yes, my boy Roger is real.

    XD

  • Josh

When is FOX going to realize that Seth Macfarlane stopped being funny when they first took Family Guy off the air. He hasn’t been responsible for a single good episode of television since.

    • Ron Swanson

Then don’t watch and stop going on message boards and complaining.

      • Soon to outnumber you

Up yours. He’s right. MacFarlane sucks arse

    • Everyday American

I agree completely. The new Family Guy is unfunny, American Dad sucks and the Cleveland Show is a total waste.

  • Hondo

JOsh you are a turd licker

    • Everyday American

Spoken like a true Family Guy fan. Now, say it five more times, and the mouth breathers that watch that show will find it funny. HEE-HAW!

  • Thom

This is good news. American Dad is MacFarlane’s only show that’s funny or worthwhile anymore.

  • silverrose

now if we can only get rid of that awful bobs burgers.

    • Sammy

I’ll be okay if it died ONLY if Cleveland Show is killed in the process.

  • Kevin

I usually catch Family Guy and American Dad in reruns on Adult Swim. Only thing I watch on Fox these days is football. Still PO’ed at Fox for cancelling Space Above and Beyond, Firefly, and Arrested Development.

    • Blank

Arrested development didn’t get cancelled, it ended. You know everything in the series’ plot was resolved.

  • nando

    Great news. I love Roger

  • KYLE

This is old news, Producer Kara Vallow announced ‘American Dad’ would be renewed for a seventh season back in November, but it’s nice that’s it’s official I suppose.

  • Soon to outnumber you

Sure, bring back the shows I never watch but threaten to cancel a million times better show like Fringe.

  • the yapper

Family Guy is still my favorite. I like Cleveland better than American Dad. this seasons episodes of Family guy have been inconsistent as far as funny goes. It seems to me Seth has got too much going on to be top notch at everything all the time. It’s too bad I still love Family Guy. I hope the final episode will end like this: Peter and Chris end up in an tavern in Ireland, Lois goes on a world cruise, Stewie grows up and finds himself a mate of the same sex and Brian and Meg get married when meg turns into a swan.
