'Survivor,' 'Criminal Minds' spin-off: One up, one down in ratings

Criminal-Minds-suspect-behaviorImage Credit: Jordin Althaus/CBSThe second weeks of Survivor: Redemption Island and the Criminal Minds spin-off Suspect Behavior had different stories to tell in the ratings: Survivor improved very slightly, while Suspect Behavior fell 24 percent from last week’s series premiere. Plus, The CW had two season premieres last night — those results are below.

Fox’s American Idol (22.6 million viewers, 7.9 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) remained out in front of the pack, CBS came in second place with Survivor (11.2 million, 3.3), Criminal Minds (13.4 million, 3.4)m and its spin-off (9.9 million, 2.5).

ABC was third with The Middle (8.1 million, 2.4) and Better With You (5.9 million, 1.8) roughly stead. Modern Family (10.3 million, 4.1) hit a season low and Mr. Sunshine (6.5 million, 2.4) fell 11 percent. At 10 p.m., and despite a weaker lead-in this week, Off the Map (4.9 million, 1.7) rose 13 percent.

NBC’s two-hour Minute to Win It (4.1 million, 1.2) featured 127 Hours inspiration Aron Ralston and was up two-tenths from last week’s low. At 10 p.m., Law & Order: SVU (8 million, 2.5) was up 14 percent and tied Suspect Behavior as the top show.

The CW had the lowest-rated premiere ever for the 16th edition of America’s Next Top Model (2.3 million, 1.1), followed by the debut of its latest reality effort Shedding For the Wedding (1.2 million, 0.5). The latter was down 17 percent in the adult demo from The CW’s last reality attempt, High Society, but posted a 17 percent gain when using The CW’s women 18-34 target demo.

Too bad Modern Family hit a season low. Last night’s episode was hysterical.

  • Justin

Kudos to Modern Family for a hilarious episode last night. I also thoroughly enjoyed Criminal Minds and the spinoff. That’s right, I love both shows! Putting them back-to-back makes for two great hours of drama television.

HAH shedding for the wedding sucked ratings wise! take that CW that’ll teach you to cancel LUX

  • Jenny

Yay for Off the Map!! Love this show!

    • Rachel

and it was so good last night!! I really hope they keep it, the ratings don’t look so good, but the show is so much fun!

Yay? It may have rose from last week, but a 1.7 in the demo is still not good. Even V does better on Tuesday nights, and it has a much weaker lead-in than Off the Map has. There’s a good chance it will be canceled. The only reason it might stay is because Shonda Rhimes is a producer and she seems to have a good thing going with ABC.

I agree – I rolled my eyes after the first episode and thought it was way too silly. But I kept watching and I am glad I did. The characters are endearing and definitely look forward to ending my Wednesday nights this way!

    OTM is like MASH+Grey’s+Lost.

Not surprised CM Suspect Behavior crashed and burned. It’s an awful show and will probably drop even further in the coming weeks.

    • Lucy

I watched it the first night and it basically the same show with different and less likeable characters.

    • Creepy

      Love, love CM-SB.

    • AW

I’m not surprised it fell. Its terrible. Its also angering a lot of CM fans. CM has let go of some of its actors but goes on to have a spinoff. Bad idea.

  • Samantha

I like Criminal Minds but refuse to watch the spin off because I blame it for the casting changings of the original.

    • kelly

I tried watching CM SB. I watched the pilot and 15 minutes of last nights show before changing the channel. I hate the cast and the writing is awful.

    • Creepy

      It’s really good :)

  • Flip

Not surprised Survivor went up—people want to see what’s going on on Redemption Island, although things won’t get really interesting til next week’s “duel”.

  • Carol

C.M.S.B is beyond dreadful. Last night’s plot was a bad retread of the serial-killer-has-pen-pal-copycat storyline that has been played ad infinitum. Forest Whitaker doesn’t come off as smarter than the criminals. Janeane Garofalo is phoning it in and the other cast members are unremarkable. Bad dialogue, tired plots, and uninteresting characters – recipe for cancellation.

Actually thought that this episode of CM:SB was better than the previous week. I’ll watch at least for a couple more weeks before I make a decision.

  • Maeve

4.9 is an improvement for Off the map. Ouch, how is this show still on?

  • Survivor

A whole bunch of us aren’t watching UNTIL Rob/Russell are voted out…what a mistake to bring them back…4 times for Rob and 3 for Russell..takes the focus away from the other players…and supposedly Rob has boot lickers…so how much is that to watch…ugghhhh

    • Simon

You’re missing out, this has been a great season so far.

      • Ian

Yeah, it really is. So much better then Nicaragua. And they haven’t shown as much Russell as they did in the past. And you’re missing out on Phillip, he’s a complete wackjob but he’s great to watch.

  • hum….

I love the writing and story lines of Criminal Minds:Suspect Behavior, I just don’t like the acting. Great show, wrong actors. And that’s just sad!

  • toni smith

1 night a week with Garafalo is too much for me so I don’t watch CM SB. I think she is hateful, mean spirited and a terrible so called wanna be actress.

    • gerry

      dead on!!

  • taurus

did anyone ever account for the fact that the show didn’t air until AFTER NCAA men’s basketball? They aired at like 1 am in more than have of the country…hell 24% is a accomplishment.
