Image Credit: Steve Granitz/WireImage.com Another veteran star could be returning to TV this fall: Don Johnson has landed the lead role in NBC’s drama pilot A Mann’s World.
The story follows a straight Beverly Hills hairdresser and salon owner (Johnson) who’s described as “much like Warren Beatty’s character in the feature Shampoo” and is now in his 50s, struggling to stay young and relevant in a place where looks are everything. The show will explore men’s struggle with aging, the salon owner refusing to pack in it in, instead choosing to expand his business while juggling three families.”
Produced by Warner Bros., the project is from Sex and the City creator Michael Patrick King. The Miami Vice star had a small role in HBO’s Eastbound and Down last year and was last in a regular TV series in 2005′s Just Legal.
Taylor Kinney (Vampire Diaries) has also been cast as a young and hip stylist in the pilot.
Also on the pilot front, EW can exclusively report that 24 and Swingtown star Lana Parrilla has been cast in ABC’s fantasy Once Upon a Time pilot in the intriguingly titled role “Evil Queen/Mayor Regina.” And: Frances O’Connor has been cast in Marc Cherry’s ABC drama pilot, Hallelujah.

This could be the least be the least interesting headline I’ve ever read on this site. OR is it the most intriguing? Hmm.
As usual, whenever Hollywood makes films about ballet or hairstying, they either inexplicably make everyone heterosexual or a raging heterosexual. Why can’t someone have the balls to create a scripted show about an actual gay hairstyist?
Be careful what you ask for. I’m sure they’ll include the stereotypical gay stylist for laughs. Heaven forbid the gay character be 3 dimensional.
Did they really have to addendum the word “straight” to hairstylist? Do people really think that every single hairstylist in the world, every last one, is gay? Why not just say “Don Johnson plays a hairstylist juggling three families and a crazy love life ” or whatever, which would implicitly mean he is hetero…
…because gay people never have families or “crazy love lives”?
Eunice, may I introduce you to the 21st Century?
Actually I don’t jump to the conclusion that male barbers are all gay, but male hairstylists? Yes, sorry that’s a big statistic. And in this day and age, saying he’s juggling three families doesn’t quite mean he’s straight
“A big statistic”? Really? Please direct us to the link in which we have the actual statistic, the actual numbers in black and white that prove that 100 % of hairstylists are gay. Don’t worry, I can wait.
I wondered what happened to Frances O’Connor. Glad she’s found work
I am so tired of these cutesy “pun” titles…
