History channel, Ridley Scott team for Civil War movie -- EXCLUSIVE
It’s like Shark Week with muskets.
History is set to announce a new annual programming event marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
Key to the plan is Gettysburg, a film commissioned by the network and produced by the Scott brothers — Ridley (Gladiator) and Tony (Man on Fire). The film promises to strip away the romanticized veneer of the war and present the engagement as “a visceral, terrifying experience” using reenactment footage and CGI, while focusing on the stories of soldiers on the ground.
History will fill the week with Civil War-themed episodes of shows like Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and other specials, including the two-hour Grant & Lee, a look at the two iconic generals of the war. In addition, the network is launching a four-year national education campaign on the subject. READ FULL STORY »

'Vampire Diaries' producer lands witchy CW pilot
The CW has just greenlit a pilot that re-teams Kevin Williamson and Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith for a supernatural drama.
Secret Circle is based on a series of books about a young woman who moves to a new town and discovers that not only is she a witch and part of a secret coven, but she’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil.
(So, it’s not directly related to Williamson/Smith’s Vampire Diaries … different characters … but certainly a potential suitable companion series to the network’s biggest hit … not to confuse further, but there was an literal Vampire Diaries companion series in the works, but that’s been put on hold). 'Charlie's Angels' reboot: No Kelly and Kris!
Image Credit: Lester Cohen/WireImage.comNow this just feels wrong: Two of the original Charlie’s Angels – Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd — told EW exclusively that they have not been asked to appear in the Angels reboot that’s in the works at ABC.
“They have obviously made a mistake!” joked Smith, while walking the red carpet for the 10th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards Monday in Beverly Hills. “I don’t know [whether I'd be interested]. It would depend on the role. Not sure I would want to repeat myself but it would depend on how they revisited the Angels concept. I think it is great. It could be a big hit if is well written and cast properly. It’s probably going to be fun to watch, either way.” READ FULL STORY »
