Chuck Lorre announces he will 'take a break' from writing vanity cards

chuck-lorreImage Credit: Matt Satles/AP ImagesAfter fanning the flames of his growing feud with Charlie Sheen last week with a post-episode vanity card that took aim at his star’s wild lifestyle, Two and Half Men producer Chuck Lorre has dialed it down a notch.

Lorre announced on Monday following an episode of Mike & Molly that he would “take a break for a few weeks” from writing his post-episode cards, saying he would instead “display a photograph of a part of my body that is entirely innocuous.” “No longer will I share some troublesome piece of my mind. Now I will share an actual piece of Chuck that is incapable of offending anyone,” he said, including a picture of his elbow to begin his new (temporary) tradition. READ FULL STORY »

Sorry Charlie: Sheen won't get paid for dumped 'Two and a Half Men' episodes

If you’re outraged by Charlie Sheen’s interviews today, here’s one fact that might make you feel better: The actor won’t get paid for the axed Two and a Half Men episodes.

Sources say Sheen will not receive his estimated $1.2 million per-episode salary for the remaining four half-hours that CBS had commissioned from Warner Bros. (There were originally eight episodes left in the season, but CBS reduced the order after the show went on a production hiatus so Sheen could seek treatment.) Sheen is currently ranked the highest-paid actor on TV. READ FULL STORY »

James Franco is back on 'General Hospital' -- VIDEO

Just in time for his Oscar hosting gig on ABC, James Franco will reprise his memorable role as that oh-so-mysterious artist on General Hospital beginning tomorrow. So why is “Franco” back in town? We’re told he shows up to remind Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) that he’s still around. Or maybe he had something to do with the big explosion that occurred after Sonny and Brenda’s wedding today.

Better yet, perhaps he’s just there to make a few meta jokes about his hosting the Academy Awards (notice the fancy duds he’s wearing in the clip) and his best actor nomination for 127 Hours. Anyhoo, his arc ends Monday.  READ FULL STORY »

Charlie Sheen slams 'Two and a Half Men' creator in multiple rants

Charlie-SheenImage Credit: Greg Gayne/CBSCharlie Sheen ripped Two and a Half Men co-creator Chuck Lorre — as well as Alcoholics Anonymous and women he parties with — in a stunning live radio rant Thursday, and then followed up a few hours later with a reported second rant to TMZ directed at Lorre specifically.

Calling into the Alex Jones Show radio program according to TMZ, Sheen called the executive producer of his hit TV show a “clown” and said his real name is “Haim Levine” (Lorre was born Charles Michael Levine).

“I didn’t care about that vanity card, I went straight home and dispelled that, that was actually one of the few compliments that clown has paid me in frickin’ almost a decade,” Sheen says of the vanity card Lorre ran after the Feb. 14 episode of Men, saying he will be pissed if Sheen outlives him. “I embarrassed him in front of his children and the world by healing at a pace that this un-evolved mind cannot process. I’ve spent, I think, close to the last decade, I don’t know, effortlessly and magically converting your tin can into pure gold. And the gratitude I get is this charlatan chose not to do his job, which is to write.” READ FULL STORY »

'The Daily Show' issues statement about camel stunt gone wrong in Wisconsin

Camels and comedy didn’t mix for The Daily Show this week: A gag that was to be shot with a camel in Wisconsin was scrapped after the animal’s leg became entangled in a metal barricade, causing the animal to fall down. (A viral video captured some of the unfortunate incident, which includes Daily Show correspondent John Oliver asking blogger Jack Craver, who was filming the action, to turn off the camera.) The Daily Show issued a statement about the matter today:  READ FULL STORY »

ABC to air Oscars through 2020

ABC will keep the Oscar gold for years to come. The network announced today that it has extended its deal with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to air the Academy Awards through 2020.

“This contract ensures that the Oscar show will be an ABC tradition for 45 consecutive years,” said Academy President Tom Sherak in a statement. “ABC is absolutely the very best place for the Academy Awards, a television event that is beloved and watched by millions of movie lovers all over the world.”

The network has already aired 46 Oscar telecasts. The 83rd Academy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, will be the 36th consecutive ceremony to air on ABC.

ABC’s current deal with the movie academy was set to expire in 2012.

Emmys merge best movie and miniseries into one dull category

Emmy-HBOImage Credit: Van Redin/HBO; David James/HBOThe Academy of TV Arts & Sciences won another victory in the battle to keep audiences awake during the Emmys. The best TV movie category and the best miniseries category will now be merged into a single category (somewhere, an HBO executive makes a mental note that he’ll need one less shelf in his office). The merged category will also be increased from five to six nomination slots. The decision means one less longform category in the primetime telecast. The number of entries in these categories have steadily declined in recent years as networks moved away from producing longform titles (except, of course, Syfy’s beloved Saturday night creature features; for some reason titles like Sharktopus keep being denied their rightful Emmy honors).

Simon Cowell announces 'The X Factor' audition dates, explains how to win $5 million recording contract

The X Factor‘s hunt for the next American idol — who will receive a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music upon his, her, or their crowning — begins next month, Fox has announced. Auditions will start March 27 in Los Angeles. (You can see the list of all six dates below.) The network has also released a video of Simon Cowell explaining his “singing competition with a twist” (embedded below). The show, which premieres in September on Fox, is open to singers and vocal groups of 12 years of age or older. Contestants will be broken down into four categories — young guys, young girls, older singers, and groups. Those who make the finals will be mentored by a judge. More specifics and requirements are found on the show’s website. In the video, Cowell hints at the added drama of watching people audition in front of an audience of 3,000 or 4,000, and of having people in their 40s or 50s, for whom this really could be their last chance, competing against 14-year-olds. Because thousands of people will be auditioning, Cowell encourages contestants to stand out: “Dress differently, behave differently, dance differently. Don’t copy what other people have done before,” he says. But for $5 million, we assume he’s talking about making a song your own — not making a memorable fool of yourself. Cowell will talk more about the show with Piers Morgan, who announced earlier today on Twitter that he just booked his friend for his CNN show. The interview will be taped next week in LA.  READ FULL STORY »

Scoop: How NBC landed the behind the scenes special 'Inside the Royal Wedding'

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton has already set off a media frenzy, with every outlet under the sun wanting a piece of the big day. NBC is planning on sending all of its Today Show anchors as well as Nightly News’ Brian Williams to cover the event, but the network will also air Inside the Royal Wedding, a one-hour special premiering April 27, following the wedding preparations from January through April. According to exec producer Nick Bullen, the show will focus on “the supporting cast around the wedding,” like the wedding procession cavalry and the Dean of Westminster Abbey. Bullen says production will be filming until the very last minute to assure the special will catch every last detail. “We’re going to try and deliver as near as possible to [April 27],” he admits. “Obviously, what’s happening with the wedding is that things are being revealed on a daily basis. We want to be as up-to-date as possible. There’s even talk of doing a live introduction from Westminster Abbey on the Wednesday night with Meredith linking live to the States, but that’s still very much in discussions.”  READ FULL STORY »
