The series edition of the rather curiously buzzworthy show Extreme Couponing has a premiere date.
The obsessive coupon cutters will return to TLC on Wednesday, April 6 with two episodes starting at 9 p.m.
Those who missed the highly rated special that earned the concept a series pickup will have another chance to catch it tonight on TLC at 10 p.m. Here’s a preview of the series edition of the show, where savvy shoppers hunt for savings by any means necessary:

I really thought that headline was a joke.
I really do not understand how they do this. Alot of the stores I go to will not let me use double coupons
Most stores will double coupons up to $1.00 That means the coupon (including the double) must not exceed $.99.
No – MOST stores do NOT allow double coupons – not out here in the North West. Did it all the time back east – even triple coupons once in a while. So really hoping Extreme Couponing will have ideas that will work even here!
Do you live near a Kmart? This week they are doubling all coupons up to $2! There’s a full list of coupons that you can get doubled over at Cuckoo for Coupon Deals (I don’t think it will let me post links here)
You don’t ‘use’ double coupons, meaning you don’t use 2 coupons on the same item. Some stores will double the VALUE of your coupon – very specific stores – some grocery stores and occasionally Kmart will run a ‘double coupon’ promotion. You can’t use 2 $1.00 coupons on 1 tube of toothpaste, though.
sorry, meant to add – There are some stores out there that put out their OWN store-coupons for items, and many of those stores DO allow you to use a store-coupon in addition to a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, Target, and some grocery stores allow this (when there is an appropriate store-coupon along with an appropriate manufacturer issued coupon).
They go to forums like WeUseCoupons.com or blogs like Deal Seeking Mom.
you are not using 2 coupons for the same item, doubling means the store is giving you twice the value of a limited number of coupons. You can use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item though.
I wish our stores in Wisconsin were not so strict with their coupon rules. I no of no store that would allow us to use that many coupons at one time. Usually the good stuff is gone and they don’t restock it…Pick n Save limits 5 coupons doubled that is not going to get results like these people get!! Walgreens is the best but they have restrictions also. But I did find some new resources for coupons from watching the show. Not sure I want to buy my coupons.yet…
1nita–i’m in wisconsin as well and i agree– no stores in wisconsin will ever let you use that many coupons in one trip–not to mention most coupons have a limit of 4 per transaction! i love couponing, but i’m not all about hoarding the stuff either!!
*know of no stores… sorry
waiting
how can you air a show that is so unreal to the common person
there may be stores across the counrty that will take that many coupons at once but the most stores are limited to one or two coupons per visit
There are thousands of us that do it every day… I went grocery shopping this morning… I got 98 dollars worth of stuff for 28 dollars… if you have the time its worth the effort!!!
I live in a rural area, and I’ve managed at time to save over 60% at the register.. so this isn’t unrealistic. And if you think its a money thing, its not.. I’m currently unemployed, my Husband is a sub-driver for local school so income is short.. its just a matter of how you match up your items to the weekly sales.
It may seem unreal to the common person because they are using so many coupons and buying the same products in mass numbers. But, for the “common” person, you can do this in smaller portions. Since I started in January this year, I have received so many free items or items that they pay me back. I may only purchase one or two, but that is what my family needs for now. FREE!! Really. One of my trips for just cereal, received great healthy products (8) boxes in all and paid .21 cents. It didn’t take long to put the coupons together with sale ads. And yes, thousands of people are doing this. Have fun!!
“how can you air a show that is so unreal to the common person” … Really? Like the “Housewives of …” are all common place and that’s how we all live. Sorry, just picking on you a bit. Extreme couponers are amazing. BUT to say they only spend an hour a week on it is ridiculous. I spend more than that and I get great results, but not quite as good as they are showing. I spend an extra half hour in the store alone, trying to stack all my coupons and deals.
If you get all the circulars in front of you, spend a little more time in preperation at home youll whiz through the store. I started shopping sales only at first but then when I mixed in coupons and the store money back programs… truly I do very well so can you. It just takes about a4 month period before you realize what the good prices for aN ITEM ON AND THEN MAKING ABINDER TO MATCH UP COUPONS
I just started heavy couponing and last week I got 298.58 worth of groceries for 45.88 and I live in florida and they do not double coupons. But You can use one store and one manufacture coupon on one item. I Cant wait to see this show!!
I dont know where u shop at…… i have used up to 25 coupons at 1 time……
I am sooo excited for this series to start!! I started couponing a little over 2 weeks ago and average a savings of 50% off my weekly grocery bill not to mention all the FREE stuff I get from the drug stores like CVS and Rite Aid. I believe ANYONE can get these results as long as you put the time and effort in… Extreme Couponing is VERY much realistic for the average person. So excited
Yeah, you smash and grab newbies give the REAL couponers a bad name! Go back to the rock you crawled out from under
Agree! Smash and grabbers can SUCK IT. Woot.
I am a longtime couponer and I cannot find anything in the stores now that the newbies have started couponing. Since this show started they think it is ok to shelf clear because they see the people in the show do it. My drug store managers now have imposed limits and hate the new couponers because they do not know what they are doing and try to use 2 coupons for 1 item, try to buy 6 of the same item at once to get 6 ecbs or RRs printed in 1 transaction. This results in many voids a day and aggravated employees.
Well, I’m a newbie, I don’t smash and grab. Only get what is needed, coupons are printed on a regular basis as I see it. You mentioned buying 6 of the same item at once to get 6 RR printed in 1 transaction….it doesn’t happen at our Walgreens. I think too that if the employees were more educated in the ‘couponing’ department, it wouldn’t be so much of a problem, if they would stay on top of the stuff, especially if they know people are doing this…just saying. They would be able to say…”Do you have coupons for all of these deodorants?” if they say yes, “..and you do realize that this week we are offering RR on them..but when you do in one transaction, no matter how many coupons you have, you will only get one RR…” Save alot of people alot of time!
I only buy what I need an would use.. the needed items. Really if you are “REAL” couponer as you say you are then you would be happy to see that others are saving, but to be rude to others just shows more that your a selfish person.
Really go crawl back under a rock?? now was that necessary. I have been couponing for a very long time but not to the extreme that I am now. I know the rules I never clear a shelf and I am considerate of not only couponers but people. Today with the economy the way it is everyone could use an extra buck. so I say good luck to all the newbies !!
Wow- there is the loving spirit.
You know I *HAVE* cleared a store shelf of the twin packs of Lysol wipes on a couple visits.
~ I do use them.
~ There were still the other types of Lysol wipes and others could get those if they wanted.
~ The store didn’t make much room for them anyway so “clearing the shelf” meant I took 10-12.
Let’s not get all holier-than-thou-newbie-couponer, shall we? You were once a “newbie”, too.
Why don’t you just ask for a raincheck? Often times, I don’t have the bandwidth to go to the store on a Tuesday when all the stay-at-home-mom couponers go to clear the shelf, so by the time Saturday rolls around there’s none left. Rain checks are there for a reason – but I do admit, they’re a bit harder than complaining…
“LIKE”
The state of Florida does not double coupon. Every once in a blue moon Kmart will do a special double coupon deal though.
I have been clipping coupons for 10 years from Sunday papers, magazines, ect.but usally save no more than $1-$5 per week. Sunday inserts have become mostly all adds. Most coupons are for cleaning products & only 25-50 cents off & even doubled & matched with store adds they still are not free. Interested to see if they show us how to ACTUALLY do this & where they get their coupons instead of just what they got & how much they saved.
The show is not going to go into the detail of teaching people how to coupon effectively – they are only out to shock people and get ratings. If you want to REALLY learn how to make the most of the couponing experience/lifestyle, you can search online and find scads of websites that are ready and willing to teach you all the details you need to know about sales cycles, stockpiling, rebating, and the various policies of each individual store you want to shop at. The show is not going to tell you all the rules b/c rules are boring. They just want to get people’s attention by showing a tower of cereal in a person’s driveway. They have no intrest in being a ‘how to’ guide.
Also, different areas get different coupons. Some areas get completely jipped on coupon values and don’t get coupons as good as what you find in other areas. You might just be in one of those areas that doesn’t get a lot of the amazing coupons that some other areas get.
You’re right, Jen! Coupons can be for different amounts in different areas. Seldom is there a store in my area (Ridgeway, VA that doubles more than the .50 cent coupons. (K-Mart double 5 coupons up to $2.00 this past weekend) When I lived in Houston, TX I had a great time with my coupons. Randall’s was a great place to shop. Now, in my small and economically depressed town, you must really work with the stores when using your coupons. Many of the clerks and managers don’t have a clue concerning coupons. Just make couponing a fun thing. Instead of keeping many of the items I get, I donate to the Women’s Shelter, SPCA, Community Store House and to my church. i get a good feeling when I see someone and they don’t have coupons and I can give them my extras. Share! I think the show is great!
I started in January and received all my “how to” at krazy coupon lady site. It is all there, along with the hard work they do in matching the sale items with our coupons that are currently available. Each week, your store sale items are list by KCL, along with ways to utilize your coupons. Check it out, it is a fantastic site. Good Luck
Just did receive the book “Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey” from the KrazyCouponLady.com site! Awesome info AND I bought 2, (discounted of course!) one for me and another for my sister!
I read Krazy Coupon Lady. And, I could swear Bree is a regular writer. Are you putting in you 2 cents or just pushing you site yet again. You hoarders are odd! Yes, just clean hoarders. That’s what any shrink will tell you.
Yes, I would like to know how She got 1100 coupon inserts! I been couponing for about 30 years and now one of the big box store (in my area)has stopped taking coupons for items 2 or 3 cents less than the coupon. Items are being completely cleaned off the shelves.
Cynthia,
The way to do it is to stack coupons on top of great sales or BOGO offers at the store. For example: cereal is BOGO (original $4, now $2 each) you could use a manufacturer coupon for EACH box. This takes it to $1 a box. Then say your store offers a $1 off coupon, use 1 on each box, which makes your cereal FREE. Now if you have competitor coupons, stack those as well and you have overage…I make these type of deals at Publix all the time. Not all stores allow stacking or competitor coupons, so check with your store for their rules. Good luck!
Besides the household goods (toilet paper, laundry detergent), any one else notice how much of their coupon haul is totally unhealthy? All those Yakisoba noodles, Kool-Aid sippers, etc.
Many couponers also have stockpiles including whole wheat pasta, frozen fruits and veggies, vitamins, etc. Each individual person and their family has different needs and shops for the items that they use. And many will stockpile things that they don’t actually use but are then able to gather up a large donation for food banks and shelters. Just b/c it’s not ‘healthy’ doesn’t mean someone won’t appreciate it.
So very true, Jen! I know that pasta was a great deal this past week here where I live, and my friend and I shopped together so that we could donate more to a local food bank… and when we do purchase large amounts, our stores love us because we order them in instead of clearing the shelf.
Extream couponer = Hoarding Pigs
Who the hell wants to stuff their house with ten of thousands of items? Get a life! How discusting.
Clearly you didn’t have a mother that cared enough to teach you manners.
maybe you should go back to school to learn how to spell.. ?? Maybe you need a life … JEALOUSY will get you nnnnno where…
Maybe you should get a dictionary. People have to eat, brush their teeth, use the toilet, etc. for the rest of their lives. So for the rest of our lives, we will need to purchase toothpaste, toilet paper, food, etc. Now you have a choice…you can buy these things after you noticed you are running low or ran out of it and go to the closest store and pay whatever price they are asking for, or you could stock up on these items ahead of time for little to no money by combining sales, coupons and money back (catalinas, register rewards, ECB’s, UPR’s) That is in no way hoarding, it is having an organized system of meeting the demands of your household in the most economical way. It is smart and makes good sense.
Dear Mattie it’s spelled “Disgusting” I have no life because I use coupons and you can’t spell a 2nd grade word. LMAO
In response to Jill. Yes, we all have to eat blah, blah, blah for the rest of our lives. But, the problem is you don’t stop buying once you have a lifetimes worth your still getting more. It’s classic HOARDING! What are you teaching your poor kids. That coupons are more valuable than they are. When was the last time you got down on the floor and played Barbies or Trucks with them?
there are many organic coupons available…you have to know where and what to look for to get them. Nothing is easy. If you truly want to save on groceries then a little time and effort to get organized and have a plan does pay off in the end.
I consider myself a Crazy Couponer. I have a 6 month supply of food for my family of three that has been VERY helpful since my husband was laid off last month. My stockpile is full of Organic cereals like Kashi and Cascadian Farms, whole wheat pastas, organic diced tomatoes, frozen fruits and veggies, Organic YoBaby yogurts, etc. . . Not all of us extreme coupon to buy sugary snacks and 1000 boxes of Yakisoba.
1000 boxes of yakisoba is crazy…it will expire before time. unless theyre doing the “garage sales” which is illegal in some chapter form of retail/distribution of these products
I went shopping yesterday and spent $6.27 for $32.04 worth of groceries. My stores does not double, this was with matching, clearence, and using “fee product” coupons I recieved in the mail.
My biggest resources are frugal living/coupon blogs.
My stores do not double “free product”
Most stores do have rules against this. The people who are clearing the shelves, that is wrong. So when I go to purchase something that was cleared by a extreme couponer now I cant use what I need and they will not use all of theirs for who knows how long. I like consumerqueen.com she shows how to save and stock pile without clearing the shelves. And also the store here that doubles coupons will only allow one like coupon per transaction.
There is no need to hoard like pigs. Everything goes back on sale again with in few weeks. Buying 4 boxes of cereal is ok buying 100 because you can is just crazy there is no need for that. When i saw that lady buying 125 candy bars that is just crazy all she bought was junk and it showed. Using the couponing experience is to save money for your family. having a supply of three cereals on hand is sensable having 100 is not there is no way you use them before the expiration date. then you are just waisting food.
It drives me nuts how people think they have the right to tell people what they do and do not need?! My neighbor bought about 100 boxes of cereal for $.50 a box last time they were on sale Ralphs and that was like 3-4 months ago. She has 5 kids and family that comes over and is feeding 7+ people daily, they actually ran out because she was not able to stock up on cereal from any good deals. My family also bought about the same amount and I have 6 other sibblings who also have familes and we help with groceries. Everyone always judges people for buying so much but you have no idea what their situation is. I am so tired of people complaining that people buy too much of a certain item and ask what they’re going to do with it when it’s none of their business! My mom has been couponing for over 30 years, I’m 18 and have grown up with it… and having three boxes of cereal on hand?! Are you crazy?! That would 2-3 days tops at my house.
Don’t forget- if a shelf is cleat, you can always raincheck items or special order them. I like to plan my trips a week or two in advance then place my special order- it’s awesome to go to the store and have them bring up all your goods so all you have to do is hand over the coupons, checkout, and your good to go!
The key is to save and use your coupons until the items go on sales. You save much much more that way. Also stockpiling will save you money in the long run.
The stores where I shop don’t allow double coupons so I can only match coupons with sales. I do have one store in the town where I work that will double coupons on Saturdays. I have to be careful because they may raise the price of the item that has a coupon out so they can double it making people think they are getting savings. Anything is better than nothing in this tough economy. I wish they would do a show where someone has to go in and can only match coupons to sales. That would be a more realistic approach. I am learning how to be a strategic shopper out of all of this.
