Monday ratings: 'Cape' ends low, 'House' tops

the-capeImage Credit: Justin Lubin/NBCFox’s House led Monday night, ABC’s The Bachelor held steady and a Two and a Half repeat haunted CBS with a great rating.

But the most noteworthy performance news last night wasn’t very sunny: NBC’s The Cape concluded its first season with a very low number. Down 8 percent this week — and hitting a series bottom (4.1 million viewers, 1.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) — the show is considered highly unlikely to return. Lead-in Chuck (5.3 million, 1.7) was stable, but this is the fifth week in a row the series has tied its all-time low. Harry’s Law (9.1 million, 1.8) was up 6 percent, however, reaching a four-week high.

ABC was first place in the demo, with The Bachelor (11.2 million, 3.4) staying the same despite the fact that the episode revealed the Dancing With the Stars cast. Castle (10.1 million, 2.8) was up slightly and won 10 p.m.

Fox was second, with House (11 million, 3.8) followed by Chicago Code (8.1 million, 2.1) modest but steady.

In third, CBS aired How I Met Your Mother (9.3 million, 3.4), Mad Love (8 million, 2.7), a Two and a Half Men repeat (11.6 million, 3.2), and Mike & Molly (11.4 million, 3.4 — and see Chuck Lorre’s Charlie Sheen-related vanity card that aired after the show here).

The CW had 90210 (1.4 million, 0.7) and Gossip Girl (1.4 million, 0.7).

Wait a minute. NBC capped “The Cape” at 10 episodes. Last night was episode 9 (with the two-hour pilot counting as two episodes). So there should be one left. I know NBC has not scheduled it, but has the network announced that it won’t air it?

I read something on the site about the last unaired episode of The Cape being shown on NBC.com.

It really annoys me they couldn’t at least air the 10 episodes promised.
I know not many watched but my whole family did and we loved the show.

I am not from the US. I can’t see it. I am really annoyed.

That was the end? Orwell sitting in a room she painted white? NBC sucks! Chuck is the only good show they have.

Just finished watching The Cape and just read in the magazine that it did not get renewed. I know I’m probably one of about 10 people that watch the show, but I did like it and am bummed I won’t get answers to some of the questions. Here’s hoping David Lyons and Summer Glau get cast in something again soon!

    • reason

Glau is becoming a show killer

      • MB

        You mean like Eliza Dushku?

    • Tony

Me too I actually liked this show too. Sure it has all the superhero cliches you can think of, but the storyline was pretty good to me.

      • Miki

I Agree with reason, summer glau just can’t catch a break…

I look forward to Mondays to watch The Cape. Wish they would consider switching nights or having SyFy taking it over, especially with the way the left it last night.

    • chacha

I loved this show too. It always felt like a superhero mini-movie, with all the technical stuff being top-notch, right down to the background music that definitely sounded like movie music, not TV music.

  • Jack Notle

Too NBC. You cancel Chuck ABC gets to have Predator tv series!!!

  • Marie-eve

I love David Lyons from ER, Sea Patrol and Cactus. He is a very good actor when given quality scripts and pretty hot to boot, but The cape wasn’t really good at all and really cheesy. So I hope he gets something better.

    • PixxieTrixxie

And sometimes we all just need some cheese :-) .

  • Marie-eve

Oh I wanted to add, I love Chuck but those ratings are worrisome. They even dropped to 1.6 in the second half hour.

I don’t get why. I am loving the show lately.

  • Kevin

Harry’s Law should have a great chance to get renewed for Season 2 all because of Kathy Bates and David E. Kelley.

  • lia

House gets a 3.8 and Chicago Code 2.1, talk about squandering a lead in. Those are cable numbers for CC, not network

  • Asha

How was House first when The Bachelor has .2 million more total viewers? I do not understand.

    • mesa

the ratings are what matter, not total viewers. advertisers go for the 18-49 audience, which is the rating you see listed

  • Merle Norman

Wonder why I’m not seeing any press attention on FX’s Light’s Out? Original reviews were really strong, which is how my hubby, a boxing fan, got me to watch in the first place, but now I’m completely hooked, and there’s no attention on it. Am I the only one watching?

    • Jose

I guess its because its a cable show.

  • Jackie

I’ve been catching up on ‘Harry’s Law’ when they show repeats on the weekends. I wish it wasn’t on at the same time as ‘Castle’!

    • Dave

Time to buy a Tivo. :-) I couldn’t live without ours.

  • JStorm

How did I not know about this? I sign me up for more Firefly!!

    • Dave

(*sigh*) I miss “Firefly”… At least “Castle” has some great shout-outs to it. :-)

  • lost

    time to cancel the CW

    • Frank A

Agreed! Too bad EW has to cover the CW non-stop because they are both Warner properties.

  • talkin’

I’d like to see Harry’s Law but am devoted to Castle. Move Harry’s Law, please :)

  • LOL

    CHUCK ME!

  • Pete

I’m also bummed about The Cape not making a comeback. These days we need more shows about good triumphing over evil…Really wanted to see this show have a chance to come full circle
& see Vince reunited with his family.
