John Travolta to reunite with (some of) 'Welcome Back, Kotter' cast at TV Land Awards

Tags: News, Television

kotterImage Credit: Everett CollectionWelcome Back, Kotter will receive the 35th Anniversary Award at the 2011 TV Land Awards, which tape April 10 and air April 17. John Travolta will reunite with his fellow cast members to accept the honor. (“What?…Where?”) As of now, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington), Ron Palillo (Arnold Horshack) and Marcia Strassman (Mr. Kotter’s wife, Julie) are confirmed to join Vinnie Barbarino. Other names will be announced.

Previously announced 2011 honorees include Regis Philbin (Legend Award), Family Ties (Fan Favorite Award) and The Cosby Show (Impact Award). Welcome Back, Kotter starred comic Gabe Kaplan as Gabe Kotter, a man who returns to his Brooklyn high school to teach remedial social studies to the underachieving Sweathogs. Season 1 of the show hit DVD in 2007. Perhaps this will help move along seasons 2 through 4?

Will Babarino be wearing his rug?

    • LOL

      Did Xenu approve this?

      • SoBayGuySD

        Really?

    • jeff

Epstein is Charlie Sheens coke mule.

Wow, its been a long, long time. What a career Travolta has had, especially compared to all the rest. Gabe played some cards recently.

  • DFSF

    Whatever happened to Epstein???

    • Kendall

      Dear DFSF,

Epstein has my permission to not attend the TV Land Awards.

      Signed,
      Epstein’s Mom

      • Jen

        That’s awesome.

      • ruby42

Epstein’s mother… I love that joke, even if it means I am old because I get it.

      • Becky

Ha! Sadly, this made my day.

      • Sherelm

Sadly, I’m that old, too – I get it as well.
But as for the joke – awesome!!

      • Raven

        LMAO!! Love it!!

      • old2

        I get it, too. Classic.

      • Kabe Gaplan

Oh, man. I was just a *little* too young to be watching the show so I barely remember it. It took me a minute to get the joke, but when I finally got it I nearly popped a stitch laughing. (Literally. Got a nasty cut a couple of days ago.) +1 Humor genius points to you, and OUCH!

      • WOW

Best Comment, period. Close thread. Broad smile, ear to ear to start my day. Thanks !

      • Joe Blow

Awesome joke! In one episode, a letter was signed “Epstein’s Mother’s Doctor”

      • Leigh

I am still laughing! What a classic line.

      • Bosco

Thank you for that- made my day!

      • Bob R

        Nice!

      • Lou

I had forgotten all about Epstein’s notes – thanks for your quick wit.

      • Princess Phyl

        perfect!

      • trishka

Best laugh of the day! Thanks!

      • larapf

Made me seriously LOL. Too funny!

      • RonMExico

        Kendall:
You hit it out of the park but it was always signed:

        Epstein’s Mother’s Doctor

      • Kemi

That was funny! I loved Epstein’s notes from his mom.

      • Epstein’s Mom

That’s awesome…you’re putting words in my mouth.

      • wakeforcer

        Lame joke, way too obvious.

      • jo

        Lol.

      • Jimmy

well done. so funny. I just flashed back to 1977. thanks for that.

      • BHM1304

Thank you for making my day.

    • MysterWright

He joined Twisted Sister. No wait, that’s Eddie Ojeda.

  • Jen

    “I said a-Ba Ba Ba Babarino…”

  • Lynn

I’m sure “Poker After Dark” can give ol’ Gabe a hall pass.

    • Meier

But who will provide that biting play-by-play?!? Ye Gods! There gonna have to try to hook Kevin Pollak!

  • tom

i just dont want to see the blonde guy who replaced travolta……get epstien and mr kotter……isnt the actor who played the principal dead

    • Frank

That would be awesome if Mr. Woodside showed up! (and kind of scary too…)

      • RH

        Mr. Woodman

      • Brett (The Real One)

Isn’t he dead? He looked like he was 98 in 1977.

    • SueN

That was Steven Shortridge and he was a doll. But he had a thankless job.

      • MattyB

Yeah, Steven Shortridge did what he could do with a tough job. I think he’s an artist these days. A painter. And yes, Mr. Woodman is Dead.

  • Dee Jones

They need to give `A Different World` the Impact Award and `Martin` Fan Favorite Award in the future

    • John

Yes, for worst impact award..that show sucked.

    • Earl Butz

“A Different World” never got enough credit. And Whitley was proof that my childhood crush on Uhura wasn’t just jungle fever.

      • Futon Torpedo

Have you seen Whitley lately? She looks like she ate Dewayne and the rest of the cast.

  • Dee Jones

What show is getting the Future Classic Award?

    • steelerdaddy

Whichever show they can get the cast to show up for.

    • Shamus N.

      Hopefully, Modern Family.

  • AllproductsOnline

    Cool i loved that show

  • kelly

i love this show. i grew up on it back when john was still on it and i stuck through even after he left. i cant wait to get the seasons on dvd.

  • Jenn

I had a mad crush on Epstein.

    • Bobby’s Robot

Me too. I hope Rosalie ‘Hotsie’ Totsi (Debralee Scott) is there!

  • LaFlor

This show brings me a lot of sweet memories. My uncle was a teacher who looked just like Mr. Kot(a) and now he has Alzheimer’s. They definitely need to get the show on DVD.

  • Polar

Oh oh oh oh I have a question.

  • Attack Gypsy

Good old Gabe made a killing in the financial markets in the late 70′s and early 80′s. So he’s basically retired to play poker. Who else would host the poker show than someone, who happens also to be an actor and comedian, who has won 1.3 mil on the tour, as of 2009? (Wikipedia entry as source)

  • Nancy

I hope Gabe agrees to join the reunion. I plan to watch this.

  • Val

“Other names will be announced.” It was a pretty small cast. You could just mention the two that aren’t yet confirmed.
