Country singer Blake Shelton joins NBC's 'The Voice'

Country singer Blake Shelton has been cast as the final judge/coach on Mark Burnett’s upcoming singing competition series. Shelton joins Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Adam Levine on the panel.

“We couldn’t have a panel that represented the hottest American music without a strong country presence, and Blake is at the top of his game right now,” said NBC’s reality chief Paul Telegdy. “Not only is he incredibly charismatic, but his passion for collaborating with and bringing the best out of other talented artists makes him the perfect choice to round out this ‘Dream Team’ of musician coaches.”

Shelton has some history with NBC: He was on its reality show Clash of the Choirs and appeared on the drama American Dreams. Last fall, Shelton was named the Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Awards. The Voice debuts April 26.

Blake will be so fun to watch! I guess I have to watch this show now.

Does anyone know the format of the show? How similar or dissimilar is it to American Idol? I’m curious with all the talent on the judges/coaches panel…

It’s a gimmic rip off of American Idol. The gimmic. When the contestants audition, the judges will be sitting with their backs to the contestants so they only hear “The Voice”. It was a Dutch talent show originally

    I have to say.

Out of all the challengers/imitators to the ratings domination of “American Idol”, this is the one that seems to REALLY be swinging for the fences. I’m impressed and intrigued by their choices in judges/coaches (still remains to be seen if they can actually judge/coach) and I’ll probably check it out…

…if only to see how NBC screws this one up.

I have a feeling this will be a great show. I have a feeling that it’s going to blow American Idol out of the water. AI has lost viewers over the years and The Voice is new and fresh… If they don’t dominate AI, then X Factor will do that. Simon’s coming!

I have my doubt Miranda will be guest. If you notice Miranda did’nt even have a video for the last song she put out and it is #12 on the media base.Good for Blake and his management. The Blackstocks know how its done!!

Do we know how long this show runs for? Is it 13 weeks, or a shortened 5 or 6 week run?

You go Blake Shelton. Hosting the ACM’s with Reba and now this show on NBC. Your Male Vocalist win has been great for your career, as it should have been.Everyone needs a break from touring the road, I would think
