CBS orders two more editions of 'Survivor'

Probst-SurvivorImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBSCBS announced today that it has ordered 23rd and 24th editions of Survivor for the 2011-2012 season.  And the news only gets better: Jeff Probst has signed a new pact that will keep him on as host and executive producer for both installments.

“Survivor’ is a program franchise that continues to stand the test of time.  Each season delivers new faces, exotic places, the ultimate social experiment combined with game play, and one of the most engaged audiences anywhere on primetime television,” said Jennifer Bresnan, CBS Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, in a statement.

The current edition, Redemption Island, is averaging 11.7 million viewers, as well as a 3.4 rating/10 share in adults 18-49. It’s improved its year-ago time period average by 150% in viewers and 162% in adults 18-49.

Probst is a three-time Emmy winner for hosting the long running competition reality show.

Yes! And there was much rejoicing! Jeff’s the best “reality” host on TV, hands down.

      • Truthhurts

Yes! the best reality host on tv! Thats like winning a gold medal in the special olympics! .. sigh why people watch this garbage is totally beyond me.

      • Jethro

Two more seasons of defunct castaways back to try to win. Hopefully the contract keeps old players from returning. No more return invitees back, PPPPPLLLLeeeease!

  • KC

Cool, I was hoping Jeff wasn’t going to be tempted to replace Regis.

    • Justin

Don’t count out Probst for that job quite yet. Apparently, Regis isn’t leaving until November, and for the last couple years, Survivor has taped 2 seasons almost back-to-back in the summer months.

      • Abe Froman

IF Regis leaves at all. I hear he’s having second thoughts.

  • Nick

    Bitchin! Great news.

  • Dana

    so glad

Great News. Without Jeff there would be no SURVIVOR. He cannot be replaced as host.

    • Rblues

I think Boston Rob could replace him–but that’s it.

      • Becca

What a great idea! I love Boston Rob and no one plays the game better than him. He also has the looks, personality and leadership qualities. I would be so happy if Boston Rob won the $1 Million dollar prize!!

      • Jason S.

I think Russel should be the host. Or my idea is that Russel and Rob should fight for the job. Whoever outlasts the other gets Jeff’s job!!!!

      • ha

neither boston rob nor russell exude the charm that probst does so I’d say no to both.

  • Jim

I love this quote: “Each season delivers new faces…”, that is, unless you are Boston Rob or Russell, in which they will keep bringing them back until one. or both, of them wins a million dollars.

    • Cici217

You are so right. We’re skipping this season because of them. How many friggin chances are they going to get. Hey CBS, NOT everyone likes these two guys. Notice that your ratings are down this time around?

      • Ian

Russel was voted out last week and I doubt he makes it back from Redeption Island, I think it’s safe to start watching again. Though watching him get voted out is one of my favorite survivor moments..

      • Foxer

Ha! Didn’t know there were others. I’ve watched every season of Survivor except this one. Couldn’t stand the thought of ANOTHER season of Russell or Rob. The beauty of the show, for me at least, is seeing how regular people adjust to the Survivor enviroment…not in watching reality ‘stars’ preen for the camera.

      • TorontoTom

You’re missing out on a GREAT season.

      • Jim

I have sat out this season as well. This is the FIRST season of Survivor I have missed, sad to say. But I just couldn’t stomach Russell anymore.

  • J.riegel

Glad that jeff probst is coming back. Hope they have another allstars soon.

    • B

They just had an All Star season last year…

    • MCS

      Are you joking?

  • Rblues

    Heck Ya!

  • K

Awesome!! Besides, I don’t think Survivor would “survive” without him!!

  • @cici217

actually you idiot if you learnt to read the article said its viewers is up 150%, anyways us fans dont want your stupid idiotic self enjoying our show

  • Andrew

Even though I wanted him to replace Regis on “Live with Regis & Kelly” I am glad he’s staying on “Survivor.”

  • winning

They announced last year that since they are now doing back to back seasons in the same location to cut costs, they will be doing some sort of all star season in the spring to draw viewers since there is no new location to draw them in.

    • bubba mudd

I really like the All Stars edition of the show. I just hope it is with other players besides Boston Rob and Russell. there are a ton of other players I’d like to see.

      • Rblues

        Bring back Ozzy!

  • Tim

I love this show!!!! So glad Probst will be back. They need to put on more behind the scenes content on the Survivor website and do more to promote the show. I really think they aren’t tapping into their full potential in terms of ratings. Keep giving us more Survivor!

    • Miss M

      Totally with everything Tim said.

  • EC

    best news all day.

  • malb

Didn’t he say he was gonna leave after last season.
