'American Idol' singer Casey Abrams says he's 'feeling better' after second hospital visit

UPDATED II: Casey Abrams, who was hospitalized during last night’s American Idol show, is suffering from ulcerative colitis, reports People. The condition, which is characterized by abdominal pain and severe cramps, required two blood transfusions last night.

UPDATED: American Idol host Ryan Seacrest revealed on air that contestant Casey Abrams couldn’t attend tonight’s Top 13 results show because the 20-year-old singer was in the hospital. Abrams previously checked into a hospital two weeks ago complaining of stomach pains, and reportedly received a blood transfusion then.

Seacrest didn’t provide any details regarding what ailment sent the contestant back to the hospital today, and Fox had no comment. But Abrams posted this message to his Twitter feed roughly three hours after the results show broadcast to the East coast: “hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars [Sinai hospital] are treatin me real good.” Abrams also posted a message for Ashthon Jones, the first Idol finalist voted off the show Thursday night: “I love you girl. I know for a fact we will meet up again in the near future. And your hair better be even bigger next time.”

Abrams performed the Joe Cocker version of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends” Wednesday night, and received high praise from the show’s judges.

    • Lola

The sexy red-headed puffball is mine! lol. I hope he gets better soon!

  • Terrance

Sounds like ulcerative colitis or Chron’s.

    • maggie

i was thinking the same thing. heaven forbid people acutally talk about any ibs sort of sickness, though. it’s really too bad there is such a stigma about it. and he is no doubt super stressed, which doesn’t help. get well soon, casey!

      • chesco

UC is NOT IBS It is a serious disease not a result of stress. Please do NOT confuse the two. He is awesome for fighting a lifetime battle.

    • emf

I thought the same thing, too.

  • roger

Gosh, he is just taking it too new lows. Doing anything he can to win.

    • Kathy

When you’re as talented as Casey, you don’t need to resort to “new lows” like faking an illness. Now if I’d heard ASHTHON was in the hospital….

    • Kristina

      Your an idiot!

      • Kristina

        Oops, that goes to roger!

    • Justin K

LOL @ Roger. that cracked me up

    • Delon

I think this guy doesn’t have health insurance and attended the competition to have AI pay his hospital bills.

      • wsugar

Good thinking, because he is not a good singer.

    • Kool Kat Walk

I don’t think it’s lower than having a dead wife.

      • idiot alert

I can only assume you are 12 years old and have never experienced anything more traumatic than forgetting your homework.

    • AFan

Are you guys kidding??? Who would go to the hospital for votes???

    • Sam

You can’t make your self need a blood transfusion.

    • marie

What a tiresome, and yet meanspirited, remark.

    • Heidi

Hey Roger, be glad you don’t have that sickness or you wouldn’t write what you did. Casey does not need to fake anything he is good. Maybe not number one idol because the competition is stiff, but he will make the top five.

    • Jill

No, you’re the one who’s hit a new low. Not to mention being a moron. You can’t fake needing a blood transfusion. Get a life.

    • Photocrazy

How low can you go, Roger has shown us how low he is. This is an auto-immune disease, that affects the large intestine all way to the rectum, not something you can fake. People who have this disease have a higher risk of colon cancer and other diseases. It is a very painful condition and if he needed 2 blood transfusions, then he is bleeding heavily in his intestine. I am sure if he had the chance to give up Idol and be cured he would do so in a heartbeat.

Hang in there Casey, I wish you well.

  • kathleen crosley

casey hope you are ok saying prayers for you just a great performer hope you will be back next week kc

  • John. Qturner

Will be praying for you. Hope you get well soon

  • Brianna

Take it easy Casey. You’re in my prayers.

  • sima

Not good to be hospitalized twice since beginning of show – esp as a favorite…God forbid he drops out and w e have to suffer thru ashston again

  • John Turner

Praying for you. Hope you get well soon!

  • Trixy Rose

Some people dont get it….. this life style is trying enough than to have jerks that think the only way to win is to cheat. Well I dont think that way. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery… take it easy and may God give you the strength to overcome all obsitcles. Love ya Man…

    • lizz

It has nothing to do with “not getting it.” Some people are trollish a$$h*les and have nothing better to do with their day than to post mean spirited BS on a message board to get a rise out of people who care. What I don’t understand is why people feed the trolls by responding to them? That is what they are looking for. Validation that they hurt someone’s feelings. Ignore the idiots.

  • oTIS

Very bad stomache virus Lasts 6-8 days. Hard way to lose 15-pounds. Many need IV’s and can’t eat. Kids are dropping out of school daily with it.

    • Tarc

I had that one earlier this winter. I had to go to the hospital and get 5 liters of saline to rehydrate. They told me it was sweepting through the dorms on campus, and by the time I was headed out, there were kids proped up everywhere in the hallways in IVs.

    • allie

you do not get blood transfusions for stomach viruses. Fluid, yes. Blood, no.

  • Jeff from Jersey; yes New Jersey

I hope this does not turn into another Bowersox situation. Rest up Casey. We need your kind of music.

  • lee

Then he should be taken off the show cuz its going to keep happening so ax him now

    • Rob

Oh, I hope they don’t ax him now — I really don’t want to suffer through another one of Ashthon’s “songs.”

  • Lauren

he’s not my favorite but Get better soon Casey! <3

  • sugarx2

Casey has shown incredible talent. Whether he continues with this show or has to drop out due to current health concerns, I think he will be a recording star! He is phenomenal! TRUE HEART!

  • Eolra

Rumor has it – bleeding stomach ulcer. That would explain the blood transfusion – you do lose blood. Can be fatal without treatment, but can be managed with medication.

    • Tarc

That is a more likely diagnosis.

    • Sam

I think this is definitely it.

    • Meli

If that’s true he may eventually need surgery. Strange to think a kid can have ulcers, but when I was in high school one of my friends had the same thing.
