Michael Chiklis cast in Conan O'Brien's CBS pilot

michael-chiklisImage Credit: Jerritt Clark/WireImage.comNext fall, Michael Chiklis might have a more ordinary family.

The actor has been signed to the lead role in a CBS comedy pilot Vince Uncensored, from veteran writer Phoef Sutton (Cheers, Terriers) and exec produced by Conan O’Brien and David Kissinger.

The premise of the Warner Bros. project: “After a life-changing experience, a man decides to take a more honest approach to his life, work and family.” TheĀ Vince Uncensored job is in “second position” to Chiklis’ gig on ABC’s struggling No Ordinary Family, which is looking unlikely to get another season.

I just don’t know if I want to see Chiklis in a comedic role…is that ignorant of me?

    • Wha’ever

I agree. If only his looks could change a little so there would be a little difference… But there’s not much you can do with that (lack of) hair ? Maybe he should grow a beard ?

      • Dave

this guy can’t play any role other than a bad ass cop, that’s the problem with actors from canceled long running shows, audiences can’t relate to any other types of roles. Chiklis needs another ‘The Shield’ style role, anything else is going to fail.

      • justme

He is cute. I like him

      • metoo

        you’re an idiot

    • Jenn

Yes Erin, it is ignorant of you.

    • Penny

Google Michael Chiklis with hair. He used to look like a fat dumpy goofball. It’s crazy how much his appearance changed simply by shaving his head.

    • yummycupcake

well the commish was more comedic. and he did that horrible show daddio

    • The Man

Actually, Chiklis was in a sitcom back in 2000 that I remember. Whereas the show itself wasn’t that great, there were aspects, or characters that were funny and watchable. The show was called “Daddio” according to IMDB but I remembered it being called “The Mommies” or something like that as he was a stay at home dad. He and his young son “Max” in the show were particularly funny.

You guys must not remember Chilkis frrom his days as “The Commish” where he played a goodie goodie cop. It took me a while to get used to him in “The Shield” which became one of my favorite shows. The man is versitile!

  • chi

Wow, I have been a fan of this guy for years but I never realized how much he looks like a bottlenose dolphin before.

    • pogo

      @chi–> Yer funny! ^^

  • Dee Jones

This is a bad sign for `No Ordinary Family` if he`s already signing to do another show. I smell cancellation.

    • Amanda Kiwinerd

Good. It was a piece of garbage.

      • Ap

It wasn’t garbage…just strange – at least for the 20 minutes that I saw.

    • veronica

The ratings have long made it clear that there’s no chance of a second season.

  • Mikey

Not necessarily. If “no ordinary family” does get a last minute pickup, they get first dibs on him and this pilot will have to recast. Though, the fact that he’s fully prepared to move on means that the writing must be on the wall over at the show.

    • veronica

I like NOF but it has consistently received abysmal ratings. Shows do not miraculously bounce back from these levels. The CBS pilot does not have to worry about possibly recasting.

  • Corrine Mackey

I HAD SEX WITH VIC MACKEY!!!!!!!!

    • The Man

Way to go. However you might want to be extra careful as intercourse with your brother can cause disastrous genetic results.

      • Corrine Mackey

I’M HIS EX-WIFE YOU BAFOON! I AM GOING TO SICK SHANE VANDRELL AND CLAUDETTE WHIMS ON YOU!!!!!

      • Jayjuiced

You married and then divorced your brother?

  • Chris

Awww…I LOVE NOF!!! How are y’all calling it garbage?? It’s a totally cute show! I will be sad if it gets canceled. But I will watch him in anything he’s on…he’s always great.

    • John

Yeah. Its seems that people wanted this totally dark which it can be but I liked the lighter moments.

    • Jamie

      Same here, Chris.

  • Jimbo

No Ordinary Family is a weekly staple for my family and myself. It’s lighthearted, as far as super hero shows go, but has a sense of darkness that makes the show more entertaining. The story is just now starting to take shape, and I would like to see where the writers take it. Here’s to hoping another season of NOF is on the way.

    • RubyRed74

      Agreed!

  • John Blackmore

This news comes just after Julie Benz has announced that the No Ordinary Family season will end with a cliffhanger. This pretty much guarantees that the fans who invested their time in this show are going to get left hanging, with no resolution to the storylines. Yet another example of why viewers are abandoning all serialized shows. When are the networks going to understand that they are their own worst enemies? Its not that there are so many other entertainment options available, you’re viewers are leaving because you treat them with contempt.

  • AV

Kind of bad news for him. Conan’s TBS show is awesome, but other shows he produced have fared pretty badly: Andy Richter PI, Outlaw, Lost (the reality show, not the ABC one)…

  • Big D

    Bye-bye NOF, bye-bye.

  • Kai

I like No Ordinary Family, but his character is annoying and they overuse him.

  • FJ

dave – shield wasn’t canceled; the writers ended it. and no, an actor isn’t necessarily typecast. Chiklis was made known for his comedic role first and in 2002 it was considered strange that we’d see him slimmed down and in a more badass type of role. he’s done a comedic role before and can do it again; here’s wishing him success if he ends up taking this role.

  • mary

LOVE No Ordinary Family. Good show I can watch with my entire family. Chiklis has some really funny moments. The entire family and close friends are believable in their roles. Just wish the show would go back to storylines like they had when it first came on the air.

  • L2489

    NICE HOUSE!!

    ^DRUGS!!!^

  • Dylan

I actually liked “No Ordinary Family”, but i don’t think comedy would be his style
