'Mr. Sunshine,' 'Map,' 'Suspect' dip in ratings

off-the-mapImage Credit: Mario Perez/ABCMatthew Perry’s ratings aren’t so sunny without a Modern Family lead-in.

With only repeats airing before Mr. Sunshine (4.8 million viewers, 1.8 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) on Wednesday night, the ABC freshman comedy dropped 25 percent percent to a new low. The lack of momentum in ABC’s block also zapped fellow newcomer Off the Map (4.3 million, 1.4), which fell 18 percent to an all-time low.

On the other end of the spectrum, Fox’s two-hour American Idol performance show (24.2 million, 8.0) led the night, up a tick from last week.

CBS’ Survivor (10.3 million, 3.2) dropped down a tenth. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior dipped 15 percent without an original lead-in this week to a series low (9.1 million, 2.2).

NBC aired a steady Minute to Win It (3.5 million, 1.0) and repeats. The CW had America’s Next Top Model (2.3 million, 1.1) and Shedding for the Wedding (1 million, 0.5).

I hope Off the Map gets canceled. It’s a terrible show.

You should give it a second viewing. The writing has picked up immensely over the past three shows (though last week was back to kind of the old way of writing) with a different level of maturity and wit that the first few shows lacked desperately. Its inconsistent but it shows improvement. I half wondered if maybe a new showrunner or writer was hired.

Maybe Mr. Sunshine would get better ratings if the brain trust who ran ABC put it on instead of the unpopular Better With You instead of Cougar Town. Seriously, what idiot decided to keep Better With You on during sweeps, but not Cougar Town?

Mr. Sunshine is surprisingly funny, much better than I was expecting. Too bad no one’s watching it.

    • Kaytee

      I agree

I hope both Mr Sunshine & Criminal minds SB get picked up for a second series, I enjoy watching them.

Survivor did well against AI. Suspect Behavior should have done a lot better up against 2 repeats.

  • Shane

I tried watching Suspect Behaviour but it was just toooo cliche.
I am on the fence about Matthew’s show, I do love Matthew Perry but I think this show is just too subtle for television.
But Off the Map………please for the love of god, keep Martin Henderson on weekly tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring back Cougar town dammit, Mr. Sunshine and Cougar town would go well back to back. Chandler and Monica Hello???
Get rid of Better with you. ABC execs are such doofuses.

Mr. Sunshine is brilliant………Matthew Perry’s put a great team of writers and a phenominal cast. Change up the schedule ABC so it has a chance!!

  • Jeanette

I love Perry, maybe he should do something with Jennifer A., Cougar town is just to smuty for me. Something up lifting and funny with Perry, Jen, Lablanc, his real life girlfriend and her character boyfriend, now that would be good!
