'American Idol' exit Q&A video: Ashthon Jones says she 'wasn't surprised' to go home -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Ashthon Jones, American Idol‘s resident “diva” this season, says she wasn’t surprised that she was the first finalist sent home from the show. ”I kind of felt it,” she told EW in video interview backstage an hour after the results show had ended. “But I still kept the faith.” (She even tweeted her premonition hours before the show.) When discussing her regret for choosing a lesser known Diana Ross ballad to sing, Ashthon shared that Idol judge Jennifer Lopez told her after the show, “If I ever get an album, make sure I have hit songs on there.” And as for whether being called a “diva” by Lopez may have put some people off, Ashthon was philosophical. “A diva is not always a person that has that attitude, you know, ‘I’m all that,’” she said. “I like to dress, I love to have make-up on, I like to do my hair…. I love to have confidence, but that confidence doesn’t come from myself. It comes from God, and that’s what I wanted America to see.”

Check out the full interview below.

That hair is telling Whitney Houston that it wants to dance with somebody.

    • not bad

Guys she actually seems like a nice girl. She admitted that she wasn’t surprised. The whole reason people started calling her a diva is because Jennifer called her it. Karen is the one that annoys me…cheating her way through the competition.

      • leesa

I agree. She seems like a nice person, and she is stunningly beautiful.

      • Mike

Ever think that that the reason Jennifer called her a diva was because she was giving off that vibe during her performances?

      • Andrew

        How is Karen “cheating”?

      • Heidi

I like to know how was Ashthon Jones cheating?

  • John

She is the first to go because she was mediocre. It’s pretty simple.

    • Hilda

Right On John. The other contestants are better.

  • Matt

Aw, that’s cute that you think you went home because of song choice.

  • Andre

AI is an elimination show. Regardless of whether Ashthon was the worst performer this week, she is definitely not the best of the season. She would never have won.

  • Jennifer

Yes, the diva attitude put voters off. That and her terrible singing.

  • Ellie

    Glad she is gone…

  • Cheryl

Does she get to tour with the group?

    • JO

Nope, I think it’s the top 10 that tour, but maybe I’m not correct…not up to speed on my idol facts. But, glad she’s history regardless.

      • Candacetx

you were correct. The top 10 are the only ones who get to tour and to record the season album. It can mean quite a bit of $$ for them, along with the increased exposure.

  • John

What bothered me most about Miss Jones wasn’t whether she went or stayed on the show but in her room where they kept the final 13, she was shown jumping up and down on the mattress in the room. Mattresses are expensive. You do not jump up and down and wreck a mattress that does not belong to you.

    • hah

      LMAO:)!!!!!!!!!!! Great comment

    • JillS

Amen! I just bought one last Saturday for $588. Good observation.

    • Candacetx

I thought I was the only one who sat straight up in my chair when I saw that!! Of course, I worked for Simmons Beautyrest for 6 years and then a mattress retailer after that… so i am hyper-sensitive on the subject.

  • S

Poor thing had to go. At least David Cook sang her off That guy is good!

  • Shawn

She was better than most of them on there, you got the country girl who is 16 that wants to suck off Steven. The mow hawk adam wanna be should’ve never made it to the top 40.

    • JillS

I’ve read he’s being refered to as The Straight Adam Lambert.

  • JillS

Go away, Ashthon. Just. Go. Away.

  • Peggy sue

I didn’t care for her. And then her voice was not good either. When she said she had made best friends on the show I thought I saw some of the other girls’ faces say “not so much.” She seemed really egotistical and not a great singer. I was happy she was the first to go.

    • Candacetx

not sure about all of that… but… I knew it would be her because there was ALOT of animosity on various message boards that she got thru on the wildcard over Lauren T and Kendra Chantelle.

  • Hilda

Ashthon Jones should not have been given a wild card to begin with.
Glad the judges did not repeat this mistake.

  • divalicious

Oh, who cares? I’m glad she’s gone. It’s better than being a kiss up like most of these contestants are. I’d rather be a Diva any day. Kicking tail is much better than kissing tail :-p

  • Beth

OMG! People still watch Idol? They all suck! Besides, they’re all going home eventually minus the runner up and the winner. Blah
