In what’s sure to be the first of several broadcast and cable news specials on this subject, Discovery and Science Channel are teaming for a one-hour program documenting the dual natural disaster striking Japan earlier this morning.
Anatomy of a Disaster promises unprecedented footage showing the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that devastated the west coast of Japan and continues to send its ripple effects as far away as California and Oregon.
“On the strength of our institutional reach and relationships, Discovery Channel and Science Channel will offer a one-of-a-kind look into today’s epic natural tragedy,” said Clark Bunting, president and GM of Discovery Channel. “’Anatomy of a Disaster’ will depict a race against time, from the first wave to hit Sendai, to acts of incredible heroism still yet to occur.”
The special will air on both networks in early April.
Also, ABC announced that tonight’s editions of 20/20, World News and Nightline will be dedicated to coverage of the tragedy.

Wow, they sure capitalized on this disaster quickly. Almost makes me embarrassed to be a fan of both those networks.
Reminds me of when I received a ratings call from one of the cable nets for their through the roof ratings; the day in qthey did so well was September 11, 2001.
This is terrible and now I am thinking about 30 Rock’s Jenna creating a generic “disaster celebrity fundraising telecast” Tsunami was definitely one of the options in her song…
