Elizabeth Mitchell on 'V': 'We've given it everything we can'

Tonight’s episode of V is not the end of the game for the character in many ways — that much we know. (Exec producer Scott Rosenbaum said there will be a cliffhanger that leaves fans wanting more.) But the episode is what star Elizabeth Mitchell calls not only one of the best of the series, but the punctuation mark on a season where cast and writers have invested everything they had to offer in order to earn a third season.

“I fought so hard and so did everyone else,” she tells EW. “All of the writers, all of the actors, we all tried to put our best foot forward. I feel like we’ve given it everything we can. We’ll see what happens.”

Creatively, Mitchell, who plays the head of the FBI’s Fifth Column Task Force, Erica Evans, admitted that the show very much found its stride in the significantly grittier/pleasantly gory second season (which she said she now has to watch from her DVR because it’s not exactly programming she wants her 5-year-old viewing).

“What I’ve found about most protagonists is that the people around you get to have more fun,” she said. “So people come in, and there are all these wonderful, eccentric characters that surround you, and what’s been fun about this [season] for me is that Erica has sort of stepped out of that. She’s become an interesting character in her own right. I don’t know if that always happens with protagonists. To me, it’s a joy to get to do that.”

The east coast is about 15 minutes away from viewing the finale. Feel free to come back and tell us what you think while V expert Darren Franich works on his reaction piece for PopWatch.

The show made a quantum leap forward in season 2 and it will be a crying shame if we don’t get a third season out of it. And Elizabeth Mitchell is just so damn hot.

    • LOL

Get Liz Mitchell a good show!

      • Kyle

        umm she was on LOST

    • Corinne

      Cue crying shame… grrrrr.

  • Mike

Watching the East Coast feed on HD satellite now. So far it’s very good!

I so wanted to love this show. It is dreadfully boring, it has had very few breakout moments. This whole season has been a big dance that has amounted to NOTHING. Last seasons last episode was great and the viewers were promised more of that type of show and we got NOTHING. Why did they even bother with Jane Badler when they never used her in any significant way? Ditto Joshua! So many missed chances. I really doubt they will get anymore chances. Oh well, on to the next I guess…….

  • Mike

Jack, Ryan and Hobbes need to make a “Men of V” calendar.

    • Daniel Christopher Skinner

      Don;t forget Joshua!!!

      • fuzzbait

“Men of V” Calendar would give me *bliss* LOL

      • Alex

OMG Yes JOSHUA…. he is definately a HOTTIE on the series… he can be my V DOC ANYDAY!!!!! cannot wait to see more of him and his delighful hairy chest… MAN oh MAN HOTTIE with one HELL OF A BODY!!!!

  • Mike from comment 2

Dude I agree, at least on Ryan. Morris Chestnut is so goddamn hot!
Hobbes is super hot too, but Jack.. I don’t know… the priest thing is a huge turn off. Even on a hunky-fireman-type-calendar.

  • Voice of Reason

    Well that was fun!

  • m

Arrrrrr! Now I NEED a third season! Please, ABC!!!

  • Connor

WHAT AN AMAZING EPISODE! It was absolutely ridiculous. Ryan I am sad about, but I am kind of glad tyler is dead. He was such an annoying character. The only thing I wish was that when he was being killed he saw her face and was like oh my god! My mother was right, my mother was just trying to protect me like she was doing!

    • m

Exactly! He died not even realizing what a naive idiot he was! That disappointed me.

  • Cameron

LOVE V! This season finale was great! I cannot wait until the 3rd season (fingers crossed)!

  • PJ

Yet another episode of the heroes failing miserably and the V’S have everything go their way. What’s the point of a third season? It’s hard to root for characters that NEVER succeed.

    • Connor

I guess you’ve never seen the original V series.

Just so you know, heroes do not always succeed, sometimes they fail many times but get it right in the end.

      • PJ

There’s a difference between failing many times and failing every time, which has been the theme of the season. It’s exhausting and disappointing.

      • HaZe

i love seeing the BAD GUY win. every show there is a conflict, and the good guy wins, conflict good guy wins, and so on…… boring. that is what made movies like “Invasion of the body snatchers” and “They Live” great. they ended with humanity losing (the opposite of the norm, cliche, and the expected). and plus if there is a third season, and its the last one, it will be that much more epic when they win……… three seasons of them failling to see a billion V ships exploding in the sky at the end. great

  • Matt

FANTASTIC EPISODE! I hope it returns!

  • HellBlazerRaiser

The “death” of Diana irked me. All that build and she gets bumped off like that?

    I’m not buying it.

The dopplegånger Lisa opens the door for Diana to come back (if there even is a season three) saying she had a double created as a decoy.

    • Sue

Yes, that would be off the chain, and some darn good writing.

    • efrain

That just what I was going to say! They did something similar in the original V! It could work in the new series! Bring back Diana!

    • gt

any V can come back, they all have so far. It’s simple. no need for decoys. Tyler on the other hand has to stay dead or it will not make any sense.

      • Kaleb

Yes, I totally agree about Tyler. I didn’t like him anyway. I feel soooooooooo bad for Erica, but I also felt soooooooo bad when I watched Tyler on the show XD It’s bittersweet. Diana DOES need to come back. For real.

  • Tom R

Incredible… They need to continue the story

  • Pete

I watched the first three eipsodes, plus the last 15 minutes. The teenaged brat boy deserved to die sooner, and he should have suffered a LOT more than he did. Maybe if he had died early in season one, I would have kept watching. Bring on the dancing celebrity fat girls!

  • Sue

All I can say is WOW! Maybe the good guys will win in the next season! (hint)
