Judd Hirsch joins 'Damages' -- EXCLUSIVE

The upcoming fourth season of Damages has added veteran actor Judd Hirsch in a key role. Hirsch (Numbers, Taxi) will play a former mentor of Patty’s (Glenn Close); a man who took her under his wing during her first job out of law school. But his situation has changed greatly over time and he now spends his time “at the bottom of a bottle.” Since CBS’ Numbers concluded in last year, Hirsch has appeared on The Whole Truth and Warehouse 13.

The upcoming season of Sony Pictures TV’s Damages will make its debut on DirecTV this summer after having run the past three seasons on FX. The new season involves a wrongful death lawsuit filed against a military contractor over an incident that happened in a war zone. Also the show will push the content envelope a bit more on DirecTV than on basic cable. Between the military crime, Judd Hirsch, more editorial freedom and no commercials … the next season of Damages sounds very tempting.

While I’m glad to see Judd Hirsh join the cast, I’m bummed because I don’t have direct tv.

    • Laundry

You are lucky, for you can therefore make Judd Hirsch come alive in your imagination, without the limitations of a televised image.

  • Eddie Vedder

It would be good if either of the two people who have direct tv could post a review to let the rest of us know how the the new season of Damages is going.

    • Cindy

      Eddie,
The 4th season of Damages doesn’t start until July. The series is in production now.

    • AnnaDean

Eddie, are THAT Eddie Vedder? From Pearl Jam?

  • BlackIrish4094

Besides being the Heart of Taxi, his show Dear John was very funny too.

  • PNK

How-how-how can I watch this online or sumpin?? I don’t have Directv but MUST see this show!

    • Steve

That’s the entire reason why DirectTV is funding it.

  • Zo

My favorite Judd role is as the therapist in “Ordinary People.” Wasn’t he nominated for an Oscar? Could be wrong, but I feel like he was…
So grateful to DirecTV for saving “Damages.” But boy, it’s going to hurt waiting so long for the DVDs.

    • tracy bluth

I’m not sure if he was either, but he definitely should’ve been! I know Donald Sutherland wasn’t nominated for his role as Cal, which sucks because he captured that character perfectly.

      • Zo

Agreed. Also, side note: Why was Timothy Hutton nominated (and winner) for SUPPORTING actor? Crazy- that was his whole story! WTF? Geez, now I have to watch that movie again… (And P.S. EW– Pi$$ed at you for naming it one of the most overrated “Best Picture” winners ever, even snidely adding that it was a Lifetime movie of the week. Pfffttt.)

    • BlackIrish4094

He was great in that role and that movie is fantastic but painful to watch a bit.

  • meg

when is season 3 being released on DVD?

  • Torrence5

Zo – you are correct, he was nominated for the oscar (best supporting actor) for the film “Ordinary People” He lost to Oscar to his co-star Timothy Hutton. As for “Damages” love the show & will find a way to watch it on Direct TV (even if I have to subscribe)

    • Zo

      Thanks! =)

  • mark in nyc

Judd Hirsch is one of those rare actors that elevates whatever program they are on.

  • Dave

I’m so grateful to DirecTV for rescuing Damages. And I’m so happy I’m a subscriber to DirecTV. I can’t wait for the new season! Not only is Judd Hirsch in it, but also John Goodman and Dylan Baker!

  • sascha

when you say that Damages will “push the content envelope” does that mean more nudity, swearing and use of recreational drugs?

    • Cindy

In one word, yes. Damages can be more of a HBO, Showtime type show.

      • Judy

The show has been on 3 seasons, the reruns are running successfully, and all without nudity and profanity. If that is where they intend to go..sorry I will be leaving..–nudity and profanity–absolutely not necessary to have a successful show..they have already proved it.

  • Linda

I loved this show and am so disappointed that its on Direct TV. I know they saved the show from disappearing all together but it still stinks!

  • Dave

I can’t wait to hear Patty drop an F-bomb.

    • Cindy

Can you imagine in one of her temper rages? I can’t wait.

      • Dave

Lol I know! You just know that Glenn Close must be excited to really let loose this year.

  • HollywoodKen

Fear not, non-DirecTV subscribers: The 4th season will likely drop on DVD after it completes its run on TV. It may also show up on iTunes or online. I’m sure there will be a way to see it eventually.

  • Lynne

The amazing thing about Damages, so rich with talent.

  • Katy

While I am also happy that Damages wasn’t canceled, I’m not a Direct tv subscriber, so I’m wondering how I’ll be able to watch it. Hopefully it will be online somehow.
