WE's 'Braxton Family Values': A preview of Toni Braxton's sisterly drama -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

What do you get when you combine one formerly huge Grammy-winning R&B singer from the ’90s, her four musically gifted sisters, and their manager mother? WE’s Braxton Family Values, which debuts on the network April 12 at 9 p.m. The reality series follows “Unbreak My Heart” diva Toni Braxton (“The Superstar”) as she tries to get back on top after dealing with debilitating illness and a very public bankruptcy. Also in the mix are her four sisters — Traci (“The Underdog”), Towanda (“Mrs. Congeniality”), Trina (“The Wildcard”), and Tamar (“Baby”) — as well as headstrong momager Evelyn (“The Force”).

As you might imagine, a quintet of sisters led by Toni Braxton is like a little hornet’s nest of drama. EW has a two-minute-long exclusive clip from the premiere episode with EW, exemplary of what will play out amongst Toni and her background vocals-singing sisters during the series. “I love my sisters so much,” Toni says in the clip, “but I cannot deny that some days I wish I could just have my own background singers. There have been moments where I’ve been on tour and had my own background singers, and let me tell you: Life was good.” Watch it here:

Wow…I remember working at NYC’s East Village Tower Records in 1993-97, and Toni Braxton was absolutely inescapable. Seemed like we never had enough copies of her first album in particular, to fill the demand. She was indeed huge. And it’s not like she’s in her fifties and radio won’t play her because of that. She’s still fairly young enough to still be successful (according to the narrow standards of showbiz) The radio industry and the record business, not to mention public taste and likes are soooo fickle.

    • Ana

The cutoff age to get on the radio is about 40 not 50. There have been a few exceptions but they’re rare.

  • Dee Jones

I don`t know about this. This is all about money. Toni needs the money and her sisters I know need the money.

    • Templar

Haven’t we had enough has-been reality shows? Do we need another one? What’s in store for fall, Steve Pearcy, Pia Zadora, Patricia Kalember, Bronson Pinchot, Fred Dunkleman, Steve Guttenberg, Kelly Le Broc, and Tawney Kittain go on a scavenger hunt in Equador?

  • Dee Jones

Toni is still a great talent and I feel she needs to get back with Babyface for her next album. I know she had a falling out with Babyface and LA Reid, but let bygones be bygones and let Babyface T least write and produce you some hits.

  • April

Does anyone else remember one of her sister’s on a reality show about 8/9 years ago, called Starting Over? She was trying to break into the record business way back then…

    • Joel

That was a great show. I’m sure Towanda is still as crazy now as she was then.

    • lala

      it was tamar

  • jenny

why would anyone want to watch a show about this hasbeen singer and her unknown sisters? they are less relevant than the Kardashians (and that’s saying something)

    • Who Craig

Yours is probably the Only unpopular opinion. nothing can get lower than The kardashians. At least the Braxton sisters are related to someone with actual talent.

      • liz

I believe that Jersey Shore is lower than the Kardashians.

      • Chinue X

Thank you Craig! I could not hae said it better!

      • Fancy

The Jersey Shore? I can’t believe they actually get paid to party! The Braxton ladies have actual talent and should be paid WELL from the Network! I know what it’s like to be set back financially due to health problems, and Toni is very brave for being open about her health concerns, and her money problems. Good to know she’s human too. Many blessings to her and her family!

    • Michael

Why do you think Toni is a hasbeen. She is a soulful diva whom had bad management that led her to financial heartbreak, and a bout with heart problems. She still is a diva with class.

    • lala

actually tamar was singing to she is known by many..

    • TT

But they have talent. Kim and co have zilch. And Toni has a spectacular voice.

  • Chichi

Her sisters/backup singers released an album titled The Braxtons years ago and on it is one of the best covers of Diana Ross’ The Boss.

    • Dee Jones

I remember that. They were pretty good.

  • Audrey Alleyne

Toni Braxton is still one of the best R&B singer around and her fans are looking forward to the show. No one is forcing you HATERS to watch.

    • Julio Delascas

Thank u Dear!U know people will always criticize others without even knowing them.Toni remains a great singer and person.

    • Chinue X

      YES WE ARE !

  • Ray

Oh, the Braxton sisters! This will be a big hit! I can’t wait to see these beautiful gifted sisters. They’ve always been close.. I envy you, the Braxtons! And we await a good show. Keep it up, girls!!!!! I’m so happy for you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok

I still play Braxton’s sweet music. The sisters were a delight to watch on the video “Seven whole days”. Bring it on once more, babies!!

    • Ali

so i recently strated watching this show and i must say apart from the dot com wanna b sister the show is pretty good so imma be tuning in tonight again. I feel where Toni is coming from too sometimes u just wanna b ur own person and its hard to do thar in her situation But she needs to say no or she’ll never have her moment.

  • Chinue X

Can’t wait to watch! YOU GO GIRLS!!

  • Thuggie taylor

I’m ready for the show… There seem to be so many haters when it comes to these talented ladies… What people need to understand is that just because Toni has had a little bad luck in the industry, it doesn’t make her a has-been… SHe’s still richer than all of YOU… lol… Can’t wait to watch!

    • HANNIBAL

Toni will find success again. She just had some bad breaks. She does need her own backup singers. Tamar is going to continue with the hate. She’s going to make Toni miserable every chance she gets because of it.

  • Michael Q. Schmidt

I worked with them in one of the upcoming episodes. They are ALL absolutely delightful and quite talented.

  • TVDIVA

I hope the Braxtons and Sinbad both have successful shows. I am looking forward to watching both.

  • Fancy

OMG, I remember Towanda from the Starting Over cast! These ladies are simply gorgeou, she was so down to earth. Season two should be a huge success because the promos for season one, are too funny! Toni was absolutely stunning at the premiere. They all looked fabulous! I pray the good folks at the WE Network are taking good care of these ladies($$$). Frankie and Neffe had no obvious talent and they did well. Definetly will support these ladies and wish them nothing but the best!

  • Fancy

Can’t wait to see the show!
