Excellent news for Fringe fans: The drama has been picked up for a fourth season. The cat was let out of the bag this afternoon when J.H. Wyman, an executive producer on the Fox drama, tweeted this to fans: “Fringe was picked up!!!! Thanks Fringedom!”
A network spokeswoman confirmed the show received a full season pickup.
Word of the pickup comes after the drama fell to its lowest rating ever last Friday. It dropped 13% to 3.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the adult demo. In defense, ratings had been falling all week because of the time change (more daylight in the early evening tends to result in fewer people watching TV). And CBS was airing college basketball.
Critical praise for the drama has never been stronger and its performance on Fridays is still better than how the network was doing on the night in the fall. In fact, Fox reports that Fringe is the No. 1 show on the night this season — across both broadcast and cable — and that the drama has improved the network’s average on the night by 38%.

I second that request! I hate it how they release the DVDs 5 minutes before the next season starts. It is all the name of cross-promotion, but it screws everyone out of having time to watch the show again on DVD.
Watch it online! I watched Season 2 online in July via websites such as fastpasstv, tvduck, or wootly. The Season 2 DVD wasn’t even released till late-September.

You know, that’s such a good point. I always wonder why they wait SO LONG to release the DVDs. There are so many shows I miss at the beginning, then I hear the buzz building as the season moves on, or after an awesome season finale… I’d love to be able to catch up on them over the summer (the way we used do with reruns). They miss such an opportunity to build their audience over the summer….

Well, does take a bit for them to get all the special feature stuff ready (commentaries and those cool “making of the effects scene” stuff).
Excellent decision by the morons at FOX who have could have the best network on tv had they stuck by incredible shows in the past, at least they are now learning. While they are at it, renew Firefly, Arrested Development, Tidus, cancel the Simpsons, and revert Human Target back to the ways of season 1 by getting rid of Ilsa Pucci and the other girl
You can always buy the episodes in HD off Amazon VOD, iTunes, or Zune. Usually it only costs $15 to buy the whole season once it’s over.

I’m so glad this show was renewed. I had almost given up hope that any show I really liked would be renewed since so many have been dropped. However Fringe is very special and has content that actually makes people think about scientific issues and theories that are interesting and at times quite amazing. The show has good drama, diverse and appealing characters, and humor, and some outstanding acting.
