'Futurama' renewed for two more years!

futurama

Good news, everyone!

Everybody’s favorite canceled animated Fox show (well, for Family Guy fans with long memories, second favorite) is getting a couple more years of life: Comedy Central’s Futurama has been renewed for two more years, say sources close to the production.

The network has picked up another two cycles of 13 episodes — and neither include the upcoming batch that launches this June. So that keeps Futurama on the air through 2013. (Whether the order is called the seventh season, or the eighth and ninth season, is still being debated — since seasons on Comedy Central are split over two years, do you call each year’s batch a season or do you call the full 26 episode order a season?) At any rate, last season averaged 2.5 million viewers per week once DVR is added in.

    Hooray For Zoidberg!

C.C. should pick up King Of The Hill!

      • LolitaHansen

        No they shouldn’t, LOL.

        yep

        Mhmm

That would be nice. It doesn’t seem like they would continue without Brittany Murphy though. They should do a KOTH spinoff of some kind. I’m excited about the return of Beavis and Butthead also.

I would like the show to come back as well on a channel that would treat it better than FOX ever did. They can write out Luanne’s character respectively and have the characters mention her from time-to-time.

No it doesn’t. King of the Hill ended on a high note as a great example of comedy… Family Guy has already become unwatchable, and I fear Futurama is heading to that point.

      .. Zoidberg is useful again.

    NICE! Well done Comedy Central!

  • Dave

Yay! Such a great show, I’m so happy Comedy Central saved it!

  • Matt

Not as good as what it once was, but still a decent show. Here’s hoping they make some great episodes this time around.

    • lyle

I don’t think it’s missed a beat. Still one of the best shows (thankfully) still on TV!

      • Kat

I have to agree. Not every new episode has been omg-so-amazing, but not every old episode was either. I was actually really surprised at how well the new episodes matched the content, pace, feel, and humor of the old ones. The new Family Guy lost me after about 5 episodes because it sucked so hard (and also because South Park opened my eyes/ruined FG for me by revealing the manatee behind the curtain), but I’ve REALLY enjoyed the new Futurama.

    • Joe

The Late Phiip J. Fry and The Prisoners of Benda are instant classics. I think the new episodes definitely hold their own.

      • Woot

        Those 2 episodes are fantastic!

    • Donald

I think the new episodes got better as they went along. Hopefully they’ll have shaken the rust off and be back to form for the new seasons. I would prefer one long season instead of this half season ho-ha.

  • Catherine

Yes! Fox’s loss is Comedy Central’s gain.

  • Michael

Yes! Great news! I think it got really good again throughout last season (it started off shaky, I thought). I’m really excited about this.

  • Ben

This is great news. Futurama is a very funny show. This should inspire a EW photo gallery about TV programs that were cancelled by one network and picked up by another. Taxi from ABC to NBC, SCTV from NBC to Cinemax. Thank you Comedy Central.

    • Kat

Scrubs from NBC to ABC…oh wait, that didn’t work too well. Eh, at least I got some closure, even if I still hate the idea of JD marrying Elliot. (They were always better as just friends! Mandy Moore was JD’s one true love! I mean…she had Lando in her corner.)

  • JR

    GOOD NEWS, Everybody!

  • lyle

    We’re back, baby!

  • nando

Good news. I also thought it wasn’t as funny as before but still good to watch.

  • Chad

    HAZAA!

  • Alex

    Hot diggity daffodil!

  • parkR

    EEEEEEEEE!!!!! Now say nookular wessels…

    • Kat

      LOL that’s a great episode.

  • Barb

    Yeah! That made my day!

  • Snsetblaze

    All hail the hypnotoad!

    • Kat

You know those Bing.com commercials where there’s sort of a buzzing noise that happens near the end? That ALWAYS makes me think of the Hypnotoad. All glory to the Hypnotoad!
