'Teen Wolf': Watch the fang-tastic new trailer -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

MTV’s TV series reboot of the classic ’80s comedy Teen Wolf, premiering on June 5 after the MTV Movie Awards, is set to be markedly different from the Michael J. Fox flick. For starters, there doesn’t seem to be a modern version of best pal and love interest, the awesomely named “Boof” (travesty!). Instead, the network is going for an edgier approach and hoping to attract the audience of two other supernatural classics. “When I first talked to MTV about it, I said what if we do it kind of like The Lost Boys with kind of the pace and fun of Buffy,” exec producer Jeff Davis (Criminal Minds) told EW in February. “We’ve had comparisons to Vampire Diaires. That’s a very brooding melodrama. This exists far closer to Buffy.” Watch the three minute trailer below and judge for yourself:

Much better than I was expecting – but still missing something…

    • Saulo

      Much better than Skins.

  • Allie

Not bad. May check it out.

  • Tony

Another Mtv show with the word “Teen” in it.

  • THE 80′s

Hello Hollywood, it’s me the 80′s. We need to talk. Please stop remaking great things from my hallowed decades. People who grew up in me love their pop culture. They understand their pop culture and you do not. TEEN WOLF was a comedic movie not a brooding teen piece. The creator calls it Buffyesque….The 90′s and otts maybe calling later because now there are two more decades where hacks from this generation don’t understand entertainment from the past. Good Luck but this looks awful and its about as far from TEEN WOLF as possible.

    • K

If the remake turns out to be good then who cares?

      • Ian

Every writer and filmmaker out there with an original idea that they can’t get made because it’s not an idea tailored to people who don’t have enough attention span to try something they haven’t already seen. THAT’S WHO…

      • Gordon

We won’t have to worry about that because there’s no way this show won’t totally suck.

    • jay

if you’re from the 80′s then why are still watching MTV?

      • L

More like they are reading the article, Genius.

      • mike

better question to ask jay is WHY THE HELL IS MTV STILL EVEN AROUND? god damn everything on it sucks

    • LCM

and how many decades did the 80′s had?

      • DreDae

It’s”HAVE”……If you’re going to try and diss someone,at least use correct grammar!!!!!!

      • mike

haha, and by the poor grammar it is obvious LCM is someone who actually watches mtv,

    • britney

Stop being such an ass. I grew up with the Power Rangers, and EVERY time I turn around they are always remaking it. There’s like 50 versions to the damn freaking show. GET over it. Okay?

      • Gordon

Except they’ve never remade Power Rangers. It just keeps continuing. It all started in Japan in the 70s. The Super Sentai series has been going for years over there and was in the 90s they adapted one of the seasons into what we now know as Power Rangers. All the fight scenes with the Rangers in-costume is from the Japanese show. Everything else with them hanging out at the Juice Bar was recast and shot over here to match up. This isn’t the same thing at all.

    • Eric B.

man, MTV has F’d up teen wolf
It should have at least been a bit like the move from the 80′s

I will not EVER watch this crap

  • Jeff

Looks like a huge turd. I cannot wait to avoid it!

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Meh it looks more like Twilight than Buffy…

    • Laura

Can we please stop comparing every teen love story to Twilight?! And who says this is a love story. No where in the trailer did I see “epic romance” What I got from this trailer is that these characters are experiencing changes, and hormones and high school life just like every other teenager out there plus a little moonlight and a lot of hair and claws. And honestly, who really wants to see a funny show about werewolves. After all it is 2011, and we expect our supernaturals to not only be funny but to also be extremely good looking, hello? True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Smallville, BUFFY, all of these shows are doing (did) very well, and I HIGHLY doubt that it is because they are just “funny” or “witty” This actually looks interesting. And this is coming from a sci-fi hater. Of course they’re gonna have good looking characters, this is Hollywood people

  • Alicia

I would just like to point out that the wolf was most definitely Jennifer Lopez’s son in Maid in Manhattan. Mind=shattered.

    • G

      that was my first thought!

    • Kris

EWWW, you watched Maid in Manhatten and didn’t repress it.

    • Laura

lol! Man did he grow up! Yum-MY!

  • Jason A

Looks better than expected. But I will have to disagree with Nerwen b/c Twilight had crappy looking wolf changes (any trailer of those movies)and this looks Stan Winston work.

    • Nerwen Aldarion

I was actually referring to the broody nature of the film and the fact that it appears Werewolves are required to run around the majority of the films without shirts on.

  • Peter

It’s not April 1 yet, EW.

  • Sith Lord J

You don’t scare me Freak. Underneath all that hair your still a dork.

  • Peter

They should remake Ferris Bueller. He could be a drug-addicted burn-out who cuts classes and the cops are after him for stealing and trashing cars and his best friend commits suicide.

Or revive Back to the Future, but make it so he’s stuck permanently in the dark version of the 80s. I don’t think they explored the possibilities of that reality enough.

Or Police Academy. A violent killer has slaughtered the police force and a bunch of common people are forced into vigilantism.

    • Matt

Or how about you just zip your lip and not watch the show if it’s that offensive to your delicate sensibilities, moron.

      • Peter

        WOW! Bring it!

      • Peter

Okay, now I’m done reeling from that unexpected hostility….my point is, taking a comedy and making it “dark” is stupid. taking something popular and changing it a bit (“it’s Buffy but with werewolves!”) is stupid. And if I feel like saying so, I will.

      • shie

Heck ya matt i have watched evey ep and it good…but a lot of ppl juj a book by its cuvr and ihate that

    • DreDae

They tried Ferris Bueller……crap didn’t last a whole season. Only two remakes I like from something 80′s was the A-team movie, the new He-man Cartoon back in 2000. I’ll give Knight Rider an Honorable-mention!!!!!!

  • DW

Definitely looks more like The Vampire Diaries than Buffy. That’s not a bad thing, but if they’re going for irreverent humor it certainly doesn’t come across in this trailer.

  • Mike

    It look Craptacular!!

    • avenger

      Definitely Craptastic too!

  • OwlGirl

    looks fantastic. can’t wait.

  • Nothing Can Keep Us Together

the other werewolf guy at the end is a hot piece. he got my full attention

    • maggie

      it’s martin from 7th heaven!!

      • Amber

I luved the show i watch it every week Good job…
