NBC’s getting back into the Betty White biz. The Peacock has ordered 12 episodes of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, (working title) a new hidden-camera comedy show that will be hosted and executive -produced by White herself. Based on the European format known as Benidorm Bastards, Off Their Rockers will follow seven senior citizens who make it their mission to play pranks on unsuspecting younger people.
”Betty White is a comedic genius who escalates hilarity in any situation,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s executive vice president, alternative programming, in a statement. “Viewers will thoroughly enjoy watching her pull one over on the unsuspecting youth of America.”
“People have been telling me that I’m ‘Off My Rocker’ for years — now I can prove it,” added White.
The pact reunites White with NBC, where she starred in The Golden Girls for seven seasons. And recently, White’s appearance on Saturday Night Live earned her another Emmy.

Enough Betty White already!!! Don’t get me wrong. I like and respect what she has accomplished, but how overexposed can she get?
Rather than blaming Betty, why don’t you take it up with the producers and writers who keep offering up ideas and concepts for her? If you read her biography, you’ll find that it’s usually those folks who are encouraging her to try another sitcom, movie, etc.
She’s only overexposed if you watch it. See how that works? Don’t watch it, not overexposed. How simple.
Senior citizen pranks? Sounds like that’ll get old quick.

The pranks are not played on senior citizens, the senior citizens are the pranksters (age would seem somewhat irrelevant). These shows and the laughs evolve around those that are caught on hidden camera, not the pranksters. The original prankster was Allen Funt on Candid Camera, who was practically born a senior citizen, the least unfunny guy imaginable but that show lasted forever because it was the situations and the regular people that were funny. Unfortunately no other hidden camera show since has figured that out with the exception of the slightly different format of America’s Funniest Videos.
When I first saw the headline I thought that the seniors were the ones getting pranked…I pictured lots of heart attacks…thankfully that isn’t the case…lol!

“one-trick pony?” I don’t know how someone who’s been working in television since 1954 can be considered a one-trick pony. I agree that she’s a little too “everywhere” right now, but at least she’s been around a really long time.
And don’t forget on Mama’s Family she played a smart snob.
One trick pony? On HOT IN CLEVELAND she plays a cranky old woman (channeling Estelle Getty from Golden Girls), on GOLDEN GIRLS she played a sweet idiot, on MARY TYLER MOORE she was relentlessly perky and competitive, etc, etc, etc, do you even know who the lady is? Next time comment on people you know.
She may be overexposed, but calling her a one trick pony just shows what a moron you are.

I think it sounds like a fun show too! Older people are NOT dead yet and having them play jokes on unsuspecting young people could be funny. Young people may get a kick out of “old people” having the last word. Great idea. With people living longer and still being healthy we need more entertainment for them. This show sounds like it will appeal to all generations. Young people always like to see older people making fools of themselves! I remember when my kids were little they loved it when I acted silly! Same concept.

Maybe if she didn’t waste all of her money on booze and cigarettes she could retire and do all of us a favor.
I also thought the pranks would be played on the senior citizens and I actually like that idea better than the one where seniors are pranking the younger ones. I can’t imagine how that’s going to play out. I also agree Betty White has spread herself extremely thin. Yeah, a lot of producers, actors, writers whatever are offering her work, but at her age is it really wise to keep accepting every single opportunity that comes at her? I don’t think so. If only every other actor and actress I liked would get the renewed attention that she has gotten. If that was the case, though, I’d probably be sick of them, too. And I really don’t want that and I don’t want to be sick of Betty.
Obviously, NBC and Betty White aren’t expecting twentysomething guys to tune in–not enough nudity/jiggle/bathroom humor to attract THAT audience. But there ARE other segments of the public who might watch. Really. Hard as that may be to believe.

I already have the first group of “Off Their Rockers”..we are an established, active group at the senior center is our town in Harrison AR. I want to contact Betty about this…we have the t-shirts with the Off Our Rockers name, and we have more fun than can be imagined.
