'24' movie: Kiefer Sutherland announces release date

We’re holding our breath, Jack Bauer: Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View this morning that the much-anticipated release of the 24 movie will be in (drumroll please) …  2012.

Hey, there’s no reason NOT to believe Sutherland (who was on the show to promote his Broadway play That Championship Season). Still, EW hears that the movie has yet to find a director and has no start date. I guess we should stay tuned.

Sutherland told EW earlier this year that he remains committed to a big-screen version of the Fox drama and, in fact, hopes to begin production within a year. Though Fox ultimately nixed a script by Billy Ray (State of Play), the movie remains “the little engine that could.” He acknowledged that 20th Century Fox has been working with director/producer Tony Scott (Man on Fire, The Good Wife) on the project. “Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story [that will remain],” the actor says. “I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

What do you think, Bauer fans? Will you believe it when you see it?

'The Walking Dead': Stephen King in talks to write an episode of AMC's zombie series

AMC’s zombie sensation The Walking Dead might be getting a serious scare injection on its writing staff for next season. Iconic horror novelist (and former EW columnist) Stephen King has confirmed with EW that he’s currently in talks to write an episode of the post-apocalyptic series. Dead is executive-produced by Frank Darabont, who has directed three films based on King’s work — four, if you count his 1983 short film The Woman in the Room — and King tells EW exclusively that Darabont “has expressed enthusiastic interest for season 2 or possibly 3.” Although the author is still early in negotiations, the current plan would be for King to co-write an episode with his son, Joe Hill, the author of horror novels Heart-Shaped Box and Horns.

'Everybody Loves Raymond' returns! (Sort of) -- TRAILER

Categories:
Exporting-Raymond

If you miss Phil Rosenthal’s sense of humor, you won’t have to wait too long to get it back. The enormously successful creator and executive producer of CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond is finally releasing Exporting Raymond, a documentary based on his experience with a Russian broadcaster that bought the sitcom’s format.

Apparently, it wasn’t all fun and games for Rosenthal (like when a Russian executive who could double as a hit man tells the uber-producer that his sitcom wasn’t funny). The nerve! Didn’t Rosenthal show him his Emmy?

The movie opens April 29. READ FULL STORY »

'Big Love': An appreciation from a 'Big' fan

Categories: Big Love, Television

There have been tons of unique families in TV history, but none quite as interesting as the Hendricksons of Big Love. Before Sister Wives, this was television’s most riveting examination of plural marriage. For me, it’s one of television’s most underrated dramas and I’m still a little annoyed that it ends its run tonight having never received the high ratings or critical acclaim of HBO’s other series (No Emmy wins?!? Really?!?!).

While Bill Paxton’s Bill was the patriarch of the family, I’ve always felt the series was truly about the sister wives: Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Nicki (Chloe Sevigny), and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin). I’m not sure there was another show on television that featured such complex, layered female characters or a more sterling trio of actresses. Sevigny was always the revelation, in the way she took an initially abrasive character and somehow turned her into the heart of the show, particularly in her struggle to balance her home life with her ties to the compound. But then Love was also blessed with a heaven-sent cast of supporting characters, including Harry Dean Stanton’s terrifying Roman and Amanda Seyfried’s rebellious Sarah.

The series hit its creative and emotional peak with its season 3 road trip episode, “Come, Ye Saints.” It climaxed with one of Big Love’s most moving and powerful moments, delivered without any dialogue: the Hendrickson family comforting daughter Sarah after she lost her unborn baby. Tonight, Big Love airs its final episode and I will definitely miss being part of this family.

'My Fair Wedding With David Tutera' season finale sneak peek: It's a royal wedding! -- Exclusive

I’m pretty upset that after this weekend’s season finale of My Fair Wedding With David Tutera I might feel obligated to start looking for something productive to do on Sunday evenings. Not that texting one of my best friends (who is recently engaged, which finally makes us look less crazy) back and forth during the episode isn’t productive. But anything else on a Sunday night just seems so much less fun than coveting TV weddings.

If you, like me, can’t wait for Sunday night, here’s an exclusive clip from the episode (airing March 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on WEtv), which features a woman dreaming of a “royal wedding.” Of course, what David Tutera finds when he gets there isn’t exactly regal. In this clip, they’re on the path to getting back on track, though, as they search for a new wedding dress! Enjoy! READ FULL STORY »

'Fringe' ratings sink to all-time low

Drat: Fox’s Fringe fell to its lowest rating ever Friday night.

The drama dropped 13% to 3.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the adult demo.

Anybody watching broadcast ratings this week wouldn’t be entirely surprised by the drop, however. Since the start of Daylight Savings Time, ratings have been falling all week (more daylight in the early evening tends to result in fewer people watching TV). The competitive field was slightly different last night too, with CBS running college basketball, but its rating was on par with what the network typically pulls in the hour.

Heather Locklear playing a famous actress? Shouldn’t be too much of a stretch. The former Melrose Place star has been cast in a CBS ensemble comedy pilot.

The Assistants will focus on a group of helpers who work for a neurotic celebrity (Locklear) prone to wild mood swings.

Also just cast in CBS comedy projects: Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Michelle Trachtenberg has joined an untitled pilot about young employees at a venture capital firm. Trachtenberg plays mailroom worker who’s promoted to a junior associate position at the firm, much to the surprise of her coworker who has a crush on her. READ FULL STORY »

Emmy nominated Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton is headed from a football story to an American Horror Story: EW has confirmed that the former Tami Taylor is set to star in the network’s drama pilot American Horror Story, which comes from Glee creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. Details about the pilot are scant, but Britton is set to play Vivien Harmon, the wife of a therapist, who will be the show’s other central character and has yet to be cast. We’ve heard from Bones exec producers for months that Angela’s pregnancy would not be without complications. On last night’s episode, we found out that both Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (TJ Thyne) are carriers of the recessive gene for LCA (Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis), giving their baby a 25 percent chance of blindness. For Angela, an artist, and Hodgins, a scientist, the news was devastating. In the end, the couple reminded each other that they can deal with anything, which is good, because Conlin tells EW the drama isn’t over. “They have another scare coming,” she says of a script that she’s heard about but has not yet read. “It’s a crazy little end of the season for them.”  READ FULL STORY »

On the heels of today’s announcement that music mogul Antonio “L.A.” Reid has signed on as a judge on the U.S. version of Fox’s upcoming talent-show series The X Factor, the show’s creator/star Simon Cowell is talking about how the high-profile hiring came about. “Taking it back to basics, since we were making the point that the whole idea of the show is that we’re trying to find a star, my first thought was, I’ve got to have the No. 1 hit maker in the world on the show,” Cowell tells EW. “And L.A. was the obvious choice. This went to the wire, to be honest with you, because Universal were keen to keep him. But once he’d made up his mind he wanted to be on the show, then it all happened quite quickly in the last week.”
