Ben Silverman, NBC’s former co-chairman who left in 2009 after a difficult two years at the helm, is back in business with the network. His production company, Electus, and the producing team from Top Chef are teaming up with NBC on Fashion Star, a reality competition series hosted by swimsuit supermodel, Elle Macpherson. “We are excited to team up with NBC to discover and develop the next major fashion brand for retailers around the country and deliver the next breakout television show for an audience that is increasingly obsessed with fashion,” said Silverman, in a statement. “The stakes are higher than any other competitive reality show, as Fashion Star pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to launch a major national brand.”
In the show, 12 unknown designers will get the chance to compete for a multi-million dollar contract that will put their own fashion line in America’s biggest stores. Famous designers and retail buyers will judge the contestants on their creations, and viewers at home will have the opportunity to purchase their favorite designs.

Can NBC get back on track this fall?

Oh, unknown fashion designers competing for a big prize. How does NBC find such daringly original programming?
And hosted by a model! Will there be a well-spoken male sidekick who guides the designers through challenges? Since NBC seems unaware of Project Runway, maybe Mondo, Korto and others from that series can be included as the “unknown” contestants on this new program and have a second shot at success.
Another attempt at a Project Runway ripoff. But without Tim Gunn, it can’t compete. Though after last season’s travesty of a winner, PR may be losing some viewers and this might pick up the slack.
NBC owns Bravo who used to have Project Runway so now they lost it they might as well make their own now. I hope they have a perpetually suntanned gay desginer and super thin fashion editor as judges!!
Bravo already tried to copy Project Runway with The Fashion Show and Launch My Line, so this is like a copy of a copy of a copy. Should be great!
Not only does it copy Project Runway but it sounds like it’s going to be one big long commercial just to sell products…kind of like if HSN/QVC got into series television.
Its from the original producers of Project Runway- as in the ones who made the series great to begin with before it went to another network and was lame.
Really? It’s being produced by Magical Elves?
