Katie Couric and Matt Lauer in talks to reunite: report

Tags: , News

Katie Couric is planning her post-CBS News career, and it might involve a familiar face. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal both are reporting that there have been discussions to reunite Couric with her Today Show co-host, Matt Lauer, on a new daytime talk show. Couric is currently negotiating her exit from the CBS Evening News, which she has hosted since 2006. Lauer’s NBC contract runs until the end of 2012, so a reunion might prove difficult, though there’s been speculation that he intends to leave Today. “There have been a lot of rumors and speculation circulating through the press, and we’d prefer not to comment on any of it,” NBC says in a statement. “Matt Lauer is under contract with NBC News for a long time.”

However, the duo’s old Today producer, former NBC top executive Jeff Zucker, is reportedly advising Couric on her future plans. Representatives for CBS, as well as Couric and Lauer, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I’ll admit I’m not fond of talk shows, daytime or night. I think it would be a mistake for Lauer to move from Today. Right now, he has an audience of millions, the ability to do news, travel and entertainment. He’s respected and people listen to him. If he leaves Today, he becomes just another entertainment voice trying to be heard. He and Couric would have to do something extraordinary to pull in viewers who already have 3 network morning shows, CNN, Fox and PCs and phones with easy access to the internet and blogs.

I could see him wanting to do just an hour. If CNN was smart they would try to hire them for 8 or 9 since Peirs is not doing much for them.

I’m sure Katie’s talk show would be just as successful as Jane Pauley’s………..

Exactly. That was a total yawn-fest. I don’t see much in Katie to make me think she’d be any different

I really hope this is true and it airs on ABC. That way ABC can cancel General Hospital to make room for it and keep All My Children and One Life to Live. Sweet!

I think this would be a good idea. It would be great to see Katie and Matt doing a talk show together. And while we”re at it, I think the new co-hosts of “Today” should be Glenn Beck and Joy Behar.

That show would be like Jerry Springer!! They wouldn’t have to advertise and people would line up for tickets to stand in the window. They could hire Star Jones to referee and give her opinion over everyone else. THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

why doesn’t somebody replace katie couric with a three dollar an hour illegal alien from mexico…? ONLY BECAUSE OF RACISM…? white idiots on tv always get paid more than any illegal aliens who could EASILY replace them.
