'Dancing with the Stars' Kirstie Alley: 'We've become the freak show'

Are Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy cursed on the dance floor? A week after her partner tumbled to the ground after pulling a muscle, Alley’s shoe came undone during her performance on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars.

“I’m not doing a sitcom. I’m actually doing a dancing show!” the actress told reporters afterwards. “I’m tired of having to recover. I would just like to do something right.  I don’t feel like I’m jinxed, but I feel like I need to get my sh– together. When people are accident prone, there is something going on with them. There is something going on. Our rehearsals were swell. We’re bitchin’ in rehearsals. If you could just sort of tune into the rehearsals…”

“Look, I’m supposed to be Swan Lake out there, la la la la la,” she continued. “Instead I’m like, la la la la and he’s supposed to come out to me but he comes up and I’m like, my f—ing shoe, my f—ing shoe, my f—ing shoe is off, what do I do? I don’t know what you do in these situations! I’m going to write a book about this. I just feel like I want to be the people who dance well. First week, we were the people who danced really well. And somehow along we’ve become the freak show. The freak show is good but we need to take the dancing up a notch.”

If Chmerkovskiy was disappointed about what happened during their waltz, he certainly wasn’t showing it. “Listen, we got an 8 and a shoe came off.  Honestly, I’m very happy. I’m excited.”

Meanwhile, Alley seems to have a nagging hip injury. During the rehearsal video, Alley is heard saying that “it pisses me off when pain inhibits me from doing what I want to do.” After her performance, however, the actress said she was feeling good.

“My hip is fine because I have steroids all over. It was just an inflammation,” she explained. “I was trying to do what the pro dancers do to warm up and what they do is they kick their knee up like, really fast.”

As for American Theme Week slated for next Monday, the duo already has a plan. “We’re gonna not lose a shoe, not have a muscle cramp,” Chmerkovskiy said.

“We want to be dazzling in the right way,” Alley added. “We have to have more dancing and less malfunctions.”

Those two sopranos still do not equal one Kirstie. But is she trying out for a remake of “I Dream of Jeannie” with that costume? Or maybe Cinderella with the shoe? At least Maks learned his lesson and did not attempt any lifts-Hercules he’s not. Just lifting her from the floor requires the strength of twelve oxen.

    • K2

When the dance started out and she was dancing by herself, it reminded me of “Dance of the Hippos” from Fantasia!

      • Karen

helllo, you are low class and ignorant, Kristie has a lot more than you will ever have. If you feel so critical about the show DONT WATCH IT

      • @Karen

She sure does have a lot more than most people–a lot more fat!! She needs to get off my TV now!

      • deedeedragons

I’m pretty sure Kirstie Alley has made more people laugh then you two lowlifes have.

      • Mark

I agree with Karen, if you feel so critical of Kirstie, than don’t watch her!! She is a very beautiful and intelligent woman!!

      • Darryl

Oh, goody! A fat “joke”. Really? REALLY? Don’t you have to be like, at least, 12 years old to post to this site?

      • Hi

I can only pray I look half that good and can move half that good WHEN I’M IN MY SIXTIES!!!!

      • Anne

Omigod! LOL! She was rather ungainly, wasn’t she?

      • pete

wouldn’t it be amazing if all you nasty people had to get up there every week, practice constantly and then perform…that would change your collective tunes. Kirstie is amazing, funny, a completely beautiful woman.

      • Ladyj

OK K2….Recess is over…go back to your crayons now…and remember play nice with others

      • Doremifah Solatido

I’m a big fatso – I admit it. So one of the things I DON’T do is prance around like a ballerina or anything else that’s going to emphasize what a huge load I am. Kirstie Alley is putting herself out there for this level of ridicule – no one is putting a gun to her head. When Marlon Brando gained over a hundred pounds after being signed to “Apocolypse Now”, he dressed in flowy black pajamas & acted in shadows, refusing to be filmed in full profile & rejecting any script change which explained his fatness. Accepting yourself & deluding yourself are the difference here, so don’t act all shocked & offended when people point out the absurdity of a huge fat woman trying to be light on her feet.

      • Heidi

I actually thought she looked very brave, dancing alone and right beside the two singers. She looked flowy and co ordinated, and took my attention away from the orchestra in a good way.
I like her attitude and how she feels her injury is something to work through and around rather than to focus on it and whine about it. as someone who lives with chronic pain, I relate to her.

Plus, seriously -Have you ever seen Maksim enjoy himself as much as he is this season? He’s having a ball with her. She takes his criticism really well (laughed when he said three critiques and without taking more than a breath she responded with three things about how gorgeous he is. She accepts she’s not ‘there yet’ and is doing a great job along the journey.

      • @High

Really? You think when you turn 60 you automatically turn into a great big fatso? There are millions of 60-year-old who aren’t the size of cattle.

      • Soap On A Rope

I think she was better than the Hippos were. Not a lot, just a little.

      • Genny

Kirsty is beautiful inside and out!!!!! It takes alot of courage to open up and let the world in her life, people have there ups and downs. I adore her and admire her, she’s in inspirating to me. I wish i had her abilitiy to smile when the world is so cruel and judgemental!!!! Love ya Kirsty!!!

    • SaraJeanQueen

You’re horrible. She is looking more beautiful every single week. Kirstie’s got talent and money. You’re just some troll behind a computer.

      • NB

You tell ‘em SaraJean! Those two trolls probably couldn’t dance their fat butts off the couch! Go Kirstie!!

      • @SaraJean

        Beautiful? Come on.

      • Debi

Kirstie is 60 years old people, she is beauttiful and she is dancing well for her 2 mishaps. I look forward to seeing Kirstie and Max dance each week. You need to look at the big picture! If you don’t like her and make fun of her, don’t watch the show. Simple as that. People don’t have to be mean.

      • Shaz

Seriously I think the trolls that post nasty comments about people are just trying to make themselves feel better about being so pathetic. I feel sorry for them. But don’t get me wrong if I run into one in a dark alley I will teach them to be respectful to others.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Stuff it, Shazz – one punch from someone as big & fat as me and you’d dry up & blow away…..if Kirstie Alley was on “Bowling with the Stars” no one would be pointing out how ridiculous she looks.

      • Soap On A Rope

@Debi But Kirstie likes to make fun of herself. I’v heard her on several TV shows refer to her backside as her “Fat A**”. On one show she even seemed to enjoy relating how much food she consumes each day.

    • PIMB

I think she is handling this all with so much class. And yes she looked lovely, though the dresses they put her in seem to intentional emphasize her hips. I demand a stylist who likes her.

      • Doremifah Solatido

        Shamu’s stylist was unavailable.

      • Soap On A Rope

True. She should ditch the tail and dorsal fin.

      • pylgrym

I agree. I absolutely do not think the stylists are doing her any favors. They are dressing beautiful dancers but have no idea how to dress a real woman. I hope they are ignorant and not malicious. That last outfit gave her a pooch where no one can have one. And for the waltz (?) they did a one-sided dress that made her breast look like a miniature mirrorballus. She does not need to look that bad.

    • Carla

Screw you. Max is a professional dancer and has the strength to do what is necessary. Kirstie is able to assist with the lifts.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Get a grip, the guy would have to be Superman to carry that tub of lard & make it look appealing. Maybe if they allow forklifts they can attempt dance moves that require all of Kirstie Alley’s weight to be supported.

      • Soap On A Rope

I’m sorry, but it’s clear that Kirste has consumed to many cheese cakes. I thought I heard a clap of thunder while she was dancing, but it must have just been her butt cheeks slapping together while she was trying to move around.

      • Soap On A Rope

When ever she enters a room at her home, she must have fun turning on the lights. All she has to remember is the song, Clap on, Clap off, Clap on Clap off, The Clapper.

    • Doremifah Solatido

      I am a fat loser. I hate myself. I am a pig.

      • Heidi

at least have the courage to use your real name if you feel so strongly about it.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Yeah, people who imitate others screen names to mock them are real “winners”, though.

    • Pscyhology Major

To all the haters, what kind of parents did you have? Did they teach you that it was OK to criticize a person for their looks? What kind of example are you setting for your children? Do you teach them that making fun of people is OK? I am just curious…

Having an opinion is fine, but the WAY you are saying it is what is wrong with this world, I am afraid. Remember after 09/11 how we were all nice to each other (for about a week)?

Shame on your parents and on you.

  • vanessa allen

    poor chubby kirstie alley

    • Karen

Why do people think because someone has weight on them, right away they are no good!!! Watch her win the whole thing, then she will have the last laugh., she alreadys laughs her way to the bank, im sure you dont!

      • Stee

no one was making fun of Warren Sapp or Kyle and they weren’t skinny
it’s only women who have to be talented and thin

      • Doremifah Solatido

Trust me, if Louie Anderson were in this bizarre spectacle, we’d see the same type of comments. Fat behemouths shouldn’t be pretending they can be graceful & appealing to watch – THAT’S reality, like it or not. Maybe she can act (although she got her start in acting because of how beautiful & sexy she WAS), maybe she can tell a story….what she CAN’T do is dance in any manner other than the train-wreck fashion she’s exhibiting.

      • Doremifah Solatido

I have three STDs at the same time that I got at the truck stop. It’s what makes me such an @sshole. I’m a fat pig and I hate myself.

      • Doremifah Solatido

No, that would be YOU, moron. Real original, using someone else’s screen name to denigrate them. What a genius. Tool.

    • G8tr

Poor chubby Kirstie is spending her days dancing with the most beautiful man in the world. I’d like to be poor chubby Kirstie for just one day…One afternoon…one hour…5 minutes.

      • luke2

        Good one, B8tr!

      • Doremifah Solatido

After the stupid show, you have to go home & live with yourself, even with all the mirrors covered up in your house. Not a day, an afternoon, or five minutes. Fat people have issues, chum – that’s why we’re fat. BTW, it’s not big bones.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Ummm … chum! It reminds me of how I smell when I wake up! I’m a pig.

      • Doremifah Solatido

So clever and makes me so sad. Boo Hoo hoo. Go play with yourself some more, reject.

    • kim

Poor chubby YOU! How mean can you be? Kirstie is doing real great for her age and has positive attitude. Take a good look at yourself – no inner beauty I’m sure.

      • Annie

Doremifah Solatido…..you’re a loser, as are every other person who finds they must spend their time putting down others. I suppose some people need to find some way to feel better about themselves, however, you cant fake class, which obviously none of you have.

  • Kat

I thought she did great, all things considered. While I love the music they danced to on its own (it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written), I thought it was all wrong for any kind of dancing, so that was weird…but whatever, I really love Kirstie and Maks together. Maks hasn’t seemed this happy in several seasons, and they seem to have a really good friendship that is a pleasure to watch. Hopefully they do get their sh*t together on the dance floor next week.

    • Allison

I love Kirstie and Maks! He does really seem to be enjoying himself. I have to say – I only started watching DWTS a few seasons ago, but of the few I’ve watched, this is a really well-matched season.

    • Lucy

I agree…go Kirstie!! btw, loved the classical music last night, wow!!

    • Vince from NYC

COMON! Are you kidding me.. She should go home. She fell last week, this week loses a shoe. She is obviously not cut out for this competition. I appreciate the effort, but one should lose weight BEFORE entering such a physically demanding competition not use it to lose weight. She is doing lots of damage to her body, especially her knees, by performing such physically demanding tasks week in and week out without being in good shape. I’m not being mean, but look at the pros. They keep in shape year round by dieting and training hard.

      • big fan

        yes – cuz they’re pros !!!

      • Vince from NYC

big fan: Yes, look at every other contestant. Most are in at least respectable shape. You wouldn’t play catch with a pro baseball player or spar with a pro boxer without a little training first would you? Would you run a marathon without running everyday prior?

      • teacher

She didn’t fall. Maks fell when he got a charley horse.

      • Chloe

Like we’re going to take comments from a New Yawker seriously. And I supposed y ou are a male adonis with 6 pack abs. My guess you’re some Dago with a fat ass and a big belly. You should be so lucky to even be able to dance, let alone get off your couch.

      • Vince from NYC

Thanks for the derogatory expression Chloe, your real classy. I’m not in the shape I used to be which is why I don’t compete in physically demanding competitions. I merley stated she should have prepared before she entered such a competition. BTW my belly is bigger then I’d like it to be but my ass is nice, thanks for asking. I would bet that I weight less than Alley and I am 5’11” tall.

      • Stefania

that’s right. Smartness & beauty is not a criteria of dancing, as an actor, yes. Go Chris go! where? on the floor again? she embarrassed Max and the competition, falling on the stage two weeks in a raw because she is a masive overweight woman and dificult to do the required steps.Let’s be realistic!

      • CC

I’m not sure why weight is a criteria for preparing for demanding competition. Remember Jennifer Gray, she complained every week and almost gave up because her body could not take the pain but she was at a suitable weight. Large women and men can dance in this competition. Weight is not always a factor. Kirstie is good and it pains people to say that because she is overweight? She has the ability to go all the way. Yes, there have been some mistakes such as a muscle cramp and a lost shoe, but they recovered and was able to complete the dances. That is a good dancer, she and Maks could have given up. It is sad that everyone on this board looks at weight on whether someone can compete successfully. Carrying extra weight does not mean you have no self esteem, the inability to have willpower, and not put yourself in public situations because it may make others uncomfortable. It is sad to see how hateful we have all become over how someone looks and believe they cannot live life to the fullest.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Vince is dead-on accurate. People like to delude themselves, and others are apologists & co-enablers who like to pretend physical defects can always be overcome & ignored. Sometimes they can, to an extent – but usually not without great compromise. You are just not going to see great dunking in parapelegic basketball. Just like you shouldn’t expect the poor guy who tries to lift Kirstie Alley not to get a “charley horse” (good lord) & buckle under her mass.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Speaking of dead-on – has anyone besides me had sex with a dead person? Thanks for the ‘heads up’ about your ass, Vince. My heads are both up and waiting to plow your ass.

      • Doremifah Solatido

It must have been tough getting your butt kicked every day in grade school, huh, nimrod?

    • Karen

Love to see Kristie and Maks make it to the end. She is great and dancing may help her take off pounds. And as for Maks and Kristy, well who knows wouldn’t mind to see a spark lit between the two of them. Stranger things have happened

  • Kate Ryan

The whole cha-cha was upright. I know you said you didn’t want a “Granny” dance but I don’t think at this time the throws to the floor, etc. easily flow in the dance. The bottom line is how the dance looks. I think a total on your feet waltz would have been been much prettier and scored more points (and your shoe might have stayed on!)

  • GalacticCannibal

Kristie Alley is FAT but she is still the star. She has that charisma and sex appeal.

    • Mandy

KiRSTIE Alley looks like 80% of the women in this country regardless of age. She is over weight. But she CAN dance!!

  • Aggie

I love these two! I hope things go better in their dance next week, but no matter what they are fun to watch!

  • R.T.Timmons

Hey Kristie, what was your first clue, that “We’ve become a freak show”?????

    • Mark

      It’s Kirstie!!!

  • Cream Puff

Please, what is the name of the second piece that was played? Anyone?
Loved, loved the show tonight -playing classical music was brilliant. And each couple rose to the occasion. Well done! Kudos!

  • Cream Puff

Please, what is the name of the second piece played tonight? Does anyone know?
Also, playing classical music was brilliant! Kudos for this show! Each couple danced their best -thank you for a great performance!

    • Shell

Which couple danced to the second piece again?

I thought it was clever that they used the most popular, well known classical pieces and film themes to draw the audience in who may not know classical very well.

  • Cream Puff

Sorry for the duplication. I didn’t think the first one had gone through. My mistake.

    • Mark

No problem but don’t let happen again!!

  • JT

    I’d do her.

    • Ron

      wow are you desperate

  • Truthmster

Kirsty Alley rules! Who’s the other guy?

  • bllbster

Yeah, I would hit it continuously. Nice womanly figure, no bones about it!

    • jen

its amazing to me that she is 60 years old and has a nice full womanly figure and is dancing up to par ( with the mishaps) of people a 3rd her age and still looks beautiful doing it. I am not yet 40 and couldnt keep up with her at 60. I think she should make no apology for having a “womanly figure”!

      • Doremifah Solatido

“Mishaps”, huh? The nuclear reactor breakdown in Japan was a “mishap”; Kirstie Alley dancing is a violation of the laws of physics! Anyone who knows anything about dancing can’t watch her without being embarassed for her; they practice routines where she hardly has to move & all the emphasis is on the poor guy she’s partnered with…thus his hamstring failure. Stop with the dumb platitudes & face reality, num-nums!

      • Doremifah Solatido

I know about nuclear reactors, too. My father worked at one until he died of massive radiation poisoning before I was born, and my mummy was a hooker that service all the workers. That should help to explain my toxic attitude.

      • Doremifah Solatido

I’m surprosed you know what toxic means, idiot.

    • Bijou

I’m so happy to finally hear somebody say she has a womanly figure instead of calling her fat. I think she’s talented and sexy…and pulling off sexy at the age of 60 is no easy feat. Kirstie, you go girl.

      • Doremifah Solatido

She should go, all right….back on Weight Watchers.

      • Doremifah Solatido

I should go back to the sewer that I swam out of.

      • heather

Watch her feet. Regardless of her size, Kirstie is light on her feet, and she has a flow across the floor that is lovely to watch. The costumes could be better for her figure, but her feet, her attitude, her talent and her partner (yum!) make up for the clothes!

      • Soap On A Rope

@Bijou I watched some elephants perform at the circus last week. I guess one could say that they were talented, and to another elephant may have even appeared sexy. I think of Kirstie’s dancing as a safety issue. She might hurt herself or even her partner. Possible in the future they might include a 3 person dance team. It’s just a suggestion, but I might recommend a couple of members of the U.S. Olympic weight lifting team.

    • snowman

I agree I can’t wait for Kristie to ware the same outfit that Kyn had on last night and show that womanly figure!

      • Doremifah Solatido

Shamu had to borrow it for a Sea World show. They had to take it in a bit, but I hear she looked fabulous.

      • Doremifah Solatido

Speaking of Shamu, anyone else here love to have sex with animals like I do?

      • Soap On A Rope

@Snowman Watch what you wish for. It just might happen.

    • Doremifah Solatido

HAHA “womanly figure”!!! Yeah, maybe a woman hippopotamus.

  • Vanessa

Kristie and Maks keep dancing your fans like me will keep watching.I hope you all get on top the leader boards next week. And no matter what happens from here on Kristie, you got a good partner in Maks.
    Go team Kristie & Maks

    • Susan

Kirstie and Maks are a great team…and give her credit…she went on and danced beautifully even with 2 mishaps…she is talented and is a true woman….she is honest and real about what she is doing on the show…she is taking the challenges face on and succeeding…just with her personality as a REAL WOMAN…WAY TO GO KIRSTIE

      • MJ

I feel for people who have such a low self esteem that they have nothing better to do than belittle others for doing things they themselves would never attempt.

  • hot for Makism

wow, I have never seen a more sexier man than Makism. He is beautiful and sexy. He is the total package. Why can’t more man like him exist in this worl. Makism…mmm…mmm…mmm!

    • PIMB

Ditto! Other than my Pasha that is. Dmitry is a close second.

      • JulieB

@PIMB, you remember Pasha from SYTYCD!!!!!! I loved him too!!!! They should hire him as a pro for this show like they did with Dmitry, Chelsie, Lacey.
        Did I leave anyone out?
