Will kooky Gary Busey ever get fired on 'Celebrity Apprentice'?

The fact that Gary Busey has not already been fired on Celebrity Apprentice is beyond comical — which is exactly why the entire thing is so gosh darn funny. On the latest edition of the InsideTV Podcast, I explain to Jessica Shaw why I am endlessly entertained by Donald Trump’s efforts to legitimize keeping Gary around when it is clearly only due to the fact that his insanity makes for good television. The way I see it, you simply can’t embrace the absurdity of Celebrity Apprentice without appreciating the most absurd aspect of all — The Donald’s random rationale for whom gets fired. Jessica and I discuss that as well as which candidates might actually make it to the end. We also delve into the biggest Celebrity Apprentice controversy of all: Why wasn’t Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk naked last week for the big suntan lotion task? (Gee, thanks a lot, La Toya!)

Also on the menu: We take a look at American Idol and whether Scotty McCreery already has the title all wrapped up. (Plus, did Jennifer Lopez cross a line by openly campaigning for contestants just because they are women?) And then we pick poor Alicia Florrick’s jaw up off the floor in the wake of her learning on The Good Wife that husband Peter slept with BFF Kalinda. Jessica shares what she would like to see happen next on the CBS drama.

And then let us now what you think: Is keeping Busey around worth it just for the entertainment of watching Trump lamely try to justify it?

Trump can’t really fire Busey and then turn around and announce that he’s his 2012 running mate, can he??

    • sam

there honestly hasn’t been a valid reason for firing busey even though he should have gone.

      • Jenn

I’m sure that makes sense in your head, sam.

Trump as a boss is someone I wouldn’t want to work for. But you know that show is scripted and the actors know their place…notice they all call him “Mr. Trump” not Donald….and you know in “real” life when they meet in the hallways of the Atlantic Casinos, it’s “Donald.”
    Wink wink

He should have been Finally Implicated Revealing Everything Done last week!

Trump/Busey 2012. The country will be in big trouble if that’s the case. Maybe the Mayans were right. How’s the job market in Canada?

I think that if you really look at the tasks, Gary was never directly responsible for the loss. Yes, he’s nuts and a pain but Trump has fired this season on either responsibility or those who offered themselves up to be chopped. Previous seasons he has fired for weird reasons (Khloe Kardashian’s DUI) but this season he seems to be focused on the tasks. Furthermore, the people fired instead of Gary were not going to win anyway. Even if Mark had stayed, he wasn’t positioning himself to win so from a production view, why not keep Gary? I feel that if it came down to Gary/John Rich in a face off, Gary would go. Why get rid of Gary for someone who isn’t going to get to the end anyway? Even if it is annoying, it does make sense.

    • James

Great points! For a second, I though I may be the only person sticking up for Gary a little!

    • Ray

Well said, @hannah. Also, Mark sabotaged himself from the start by announcing that he would take full responsibility if Backbone lost that task (and then not picking up on Don Jr’s hints in the boardroom). Given his lack of a defense, it made sense that Trump would fire him over Busey.

Trump’s reasoning for firing people is really quite ridiculous. He fired Khloe Kardashian for trying to redeem herself after getting a DUI, which he supposedly didn’t know about. Then, he has Richard Hatch on the show whose offense was far worse than getting a DUI, I mean the guy spent years in jail, but that’s okay…? wtf??

  • James

Sorry for the few typos and confusing sentence; I meant to say: I seriously doubt he will make it much further, but I believe you have to look beyond how he regularly acts to see that there is a little more justification to him being there than just Donald Trump wanting good television, which I do believe is true to some extent.

Also, now that I think about it a little, David also implicated himself when he kept looking to Jose for support, but at least he didn’t say he should be fired.

One MAJOR issue I have with the Leela/Kalinda plot on “The Good Wife” is that it is ABSURD to think you can just change your name and continue to live in the same city. I’m from Chicago and believe me, it is large but you can’t be anonymous to the degree they are trying to sell. It’d be one thing if she moved to another city but there is no way she could just slip into another life in the same place. There is always someone who knows someone who knows you in Chicago. Especially when it’s someone with exotic looks and manners like Kalinda. It’s getting a bit Falcon Crest over there.

  • Yo

Busey is terrific, but I have a feeling the show would be just as funny this season without him. More than one off them has has “Duh” moments.

  • kremzeek

i’ve always hated donald trump and people who refer to him as “the donald”,but now that he’s a teabagger/birther nut i really can’t stand him.take your fake hair and your stupid steaks and your fake-reality garbage and go to h*ll.beck,o’reilly’hannity,limbaugh,trump.good company of trash.

    • Tim

Oh kremezzek, please don’t cut yourself again! Please!

As far as Idol goes, I’m not crazy about Scotty; but I’d rather see him gat it than (ugh!) Casey.

    • whositwhatsit

It’s gonna be Lauren, so don’t worry about either Scotty or Casey. They tossed Casey into the bottom and pretended he was going home just to make him look like a loser and position him for an earlier exit than he would’ve had otherwise. But Uncle Nigel the manipulator, the one who got Kat McPhee into the finals and maneuvered a win for Jordin Sparks, has it all mapped out. Scotty and Lauren may end up in the finale, but Miss County Fair Karaoke will be the winner if Nigel has his way. (And he usually does.)

  • Petra

YES…LOPEZ CROSSED THE line in asking to keep women around…..It was WRONG and SEXIST and it was discrimination…..YES DISCRIMINATION……at what point are these judges this year on Idol going to be held accountable for their terrible behavior, swearing in front of KIDS IN THE AUDIENCE and asking to keep the women around and NOT JUDGING properly??????????

  • Petra

Re: Apprentice/Busey…He has not done anything horrid to really be fired. He seems to be given a task and does it and adds creative input as well. He might be a little wacky, but we all are in some way and I give him alot of credit. MArk was a wimp when it came down to it-He did not know how to stay in the middle of the fire and fight for his right to stay. Busey knows when to be crazy, when to drive the guys nuts and when not to. So what if he is ADD.
