Old Christine’s got a new gig. HBO announced that it has ordered a new comedy called Veep that’ll star Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine). Created by Armando Iannucci (In the Loop),Veep will begin production this fall in Baltimore for a 2012 debut. Louis-Dreyfus will play former Senator Selina Meyer, who becomes Vice President, only to discover the job is nothing like she expected. The cast also includes Sufe Bradshaw (Overnight) the Vice President’s assistant; Anna Chlumsky (In the Loop) as her chief of staff, and Tony Hale (Arrested Development) as her right-hand man.

“Armando Iannucci is a master of smart, savvy humor, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the sharpest comic actors around,” said Sue Naegle, HBO’s entertainment president, in a statement.  “We look forward to a memorable series from them and fellow executive producers Frank Rich and Christopher Godsick.” Adds Louis-Dreyfus, “It is a true delight to work with HBO and Armando Iannucci. I take the role of vice president very seriously, and although everyone says this is a comedy, I don’t think there is anything funny at all about me being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

Great news! I miss Julia Louis-Dreyfus. And I’m looking forward to seeing Anna Chlumsky too.

Sounds like a bad fit with HBO.

Shes doing quite well for herself compared to the other four members of Seinfeld (has anyone even heard from Michael Richards since the whole “n*gger” incident?). I simply hope that this show isn’t a constant stream of Palin jokes, because as entertaining as it is to poke fun at her, that would get old pretty fast.

  • Fabe

yeah! I loved her as a castmember on Saturday Night Live! She should host again too. Can’t wait for this series. She’s a great comedian.

    • Keith

LMAO!!! I agree, but really?!? Saturday Night Live?!? That was like a million years ago, she’s been on three shows since then…

  • bruno

    lame. and go away already.

  • Mike

Awesome… she really belongs on a network like HBO. She was great in the last season of Curb, she does great with slightly vulgar comedy.

  • Brock

    Sounds awful.

  • D

    She’s great-the show sounds unwatchable.

  • Jen E.

Wow, I had been looking forward to this when I first heard about it because I love Julia. Now that I know Tony Hale’s involved, I can’t wait!

Is the new series anything like “Commander in Chief” ?
(anyone remember that show w/ Geena Davis ?)

    • RD

Maybe it’s like “Hail to the Chief” with Patty Duke…

      • Aqoeh

whew.got the same feeling (not love).anyway, lnrneiag to love properly is a challenge for every human being. in the very first place, love, itself, is every human being’s destiny (supposedly).kuya yoshke, aja!

I miss New Old Christine. I hope they get Wanda Sykes to do a guest. Julia and Wanda are great together, like Lucy and Ethel.

  • Mr. Crabtree

I love Julia Louis Dryfus too! She’s hot!

    • Mrs. Crabtree

It’s Dreyfus, you doofus. Learn how to spell. Even better, learn how to read — it’s spelled right up there. Jeez, I married an @$$hole and life stinks!

  • George

Sounds promising. Hope it’s as funny as In the Loop and The Thick of It!

  • Michael

Anyone who thinks this is awful needs to get acclimated with Iannucci. He’s one of the most brilliant talents out there. Watch The Thick of It and In the Loop for starters.

  • Muckheap

Really scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren’t they? Dreadful premise! Categorically imbecilic.

  • JGNY

Starting to look old, check out the seinfeld reruns, there she look cute

    • Harrison

Actually I think she is much more attractive now. Looking forward to the new show!

“Old Christine’s got a new gig. HBO announced that it has ordered a new comedy called Veep that’ll star Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine)”

Yeah, just the show I think of when I think of her.

    Or is it “Watching Ellie”?

Political comedies and dramas usually do not last though there are exceptions–the West Wing obviously. But “Capitol Critters”? What about “The Round Table”? “Hail to the Chief”? “Women of the House”? Even “Tanner”–one of the finest shows HBO showed in the 80s–did not last long.

Move over “Bob Patterson” and “Listen Up” and “The Michael Richards Show” and “Watching Ellie” and the planned Jackie Chiles spinoff….looks like more crap from ex-Seinfeld stars.
