'Dancing with the Stars' kicks up 21.8 million fans

Competing mostly against reruns, ABC scored a win among adults 18-49 (3.2 rating/8 share) and viewers (15.3 million) on Monday, according to fast nationals. Dancing With the Stars was easily the most-watched show of the night with 21.8 million viewers, but it also dominated across all demos, including a 9.8/22 in women 35-54 (two words: A mazing). The lead-in gave a nice boost to Better With You, which earned a 2.6/6, up 63 percent from last Wednesday’s 8:30 p.m. telecast. It averaged 11.6 million.

CBS aired mostly repeats, save an original of Mad Love (2.0/5, 5.5 million). NBC aired fresh episodes of The Event (1.3/3, 4.4 million), and Law & Order: LA (1.3/3, 5.7 million). Fox ran repeats of House and The Chicago Code.

On the CW, 90210 averaged 1.7 million and Gossip Girl, 1.5 million.

Would love to see if DWTS does well on other nights? Hopefully ABC would take a chance and see how it does on a new night.

American Idol did it this season and it continues strong.

Why on earth would ABC move DWTS? It’s their highest rated show in a spot where it does not have to compete with the other two top rated show on TV, American Idol and NCIS. Their result show has gone up in the ratings since American idol moved from tuesday.

I think that it does well on Mondays in the fall, but not so well in the spring. I would love it to move to another night with the spring shows but keep it on Mondays in the fall. And I think that American Idol was becoming a little boring on Tuesday the past 2 years (2009 and 2010 seasons), so moving it to Wed/Thurs in 2011 was a smart move.

it also helps that is nothing else to watch on tv anymore

The ratings jumped so high because Hanson was on.

I think that a day or two after Easter, the networks show their repeats. That’s probably what happened–they didn’t want to air their new shows against Dancing With the Stars. They might resume in May.

Funny how Better Off Ted never got a slot after Dancing.

DWTS had a 9.8 demo rating with women and 22 million viewers alltogether. Freakking incredible!!

Actually, DWTS does decent in the ratings no matter what time of year it is and when it competes against new programming.
