'The X Factor': Corbin Bleu in talks to co-host

The lineup for Fox’s X Factor is nearly complete: EW has learned High School Musical actor-singer Corbin Bleu is close to joining the competition series as co-host, alongside previously reported co-host finalist, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Sources emphasize that neither Bleu or Scherzinger are locked in, but both are close to signing on with the series. Meanwhile, time is getting short: X Factor must have its full judging and hosting team in place by May 8 — that’s when the production begins shooting the audition rounds before the judges.

As for the rest of the team, we’re still hearing the same names as the finish line approaches that have been previously reported: L.A. Reid (who is confirmed), along with Cheryl Cole and Paula Abdul, joining Simon Cowell.

Bleu has a slew of credits with Disney productions, and last year appeared on an episode of The Good Wife. Scherzinger was a guest judge on the UK edition of X Factor and has judged NBC’s The Sing Off.

Corbin Bleu? Ugh. Seriously? Is this a joke?
And if Nicole Scherzinger is a host for this show, does that mean she won’t be a judge on The Sing Off anymore?

  • Mayra

SOOOO glad it is not Enrique!!
This pair seems like a good choice. Can Nicole still judge The Sing Off if she signs on with X Factor?

    • Jimmi

      Of course not

  • Zach

Is that really the quality of fame/talent we’re looking at for this show?

    • Randy

Yep – Simon is a big disappointment…Trying to save $ after promising us THE BIGGEST STARS IN THE WORLD…We get a Disney drop out and a failed singer who was a judge on another network..>We get the retread of Paula Abdul who may be ‘funny’ as a loopy judge but hasnt been a music star for 20 years and didnt have a great voice to begin with – she was just a dancer…and Cheryl Cole who has no American prescence…What a failure

  • deedeedragons

Why would you name your kid that? My mind goes automatically to Cordon Bleu.

      OMG so did I

Wow, Corbin looks like he’s been living on the streets in that picture. Give that boy a shave.

How is X0factor going to be different from America’s Got Talent?

  • julia

    ewww to both choices

SNOOOZE….Im really starting to dread this show, esp after the Voice…and to see Paula again in Idol 2.0…plus Cheryl Cole who is a NOBODY in the US……What a bad talent of judges lineup when they had over a year to get the best names…and NBC gets people Like Christina and Cee Lo…Where are the stars you promised us Simon?

    • kate middleton

I totally agree. This is a disappointment considering how much Simon’s talked it up.

    • Tess

I don’t necessarily mind not having big names…but at least name some hosts who have some charisma…I don’t get that from either of them. Plus, Simon’s all about chemistry – will they have any on stage together?

Neither of them appeal to me so I find the choices to be disappointing if they are true. Hopefully, their names are being floated to see what the response is and they’ll see people aren’t keen on the choices and will go for other people.

I was kind of rooting for UK X Factor host, Dermot O’ Leary to be one of the two but I guess if they’re bringing Cheryl in they don’t want another Brit there. Thats’ a bummer cause he’s good.

WTF is Simon thinking? This show is going to be awful. It’s like he wants to throw away $5 mil. Not sure why we have Paula around again after it was pretty much established she was not really missed on Idol after her departure. Cheryl Cole is popular in the UK, but having her coach contestants in the US to fit into the US music industry which her group cannot even break into… I’m confused. He should have tried to get someone more credible.

    • kate middleton

That’s a really good point about Cheryl. I forgot that the judges coach them as well….doesn’t really make sense considering she is not famous or well known here at all…and it’s not for lack of her wanting to be famous in the US.

    • LSK

Great point. Cheryl Cole should not be a judge on X Factor, especially if Simon was talking it up about getting the best judges.

  • Abel

So Nicole’s leaving the sing off I guess. The X Factor isn’t really shaping up to be the great competition Simon said it would be. I mean Paula was really unwanted. The Voice at least has relevant judges.

  • JK

I really liked Nicole on the Sing Off.

  • Gerard

The show is about having experts and not so big names on the judging panel so it’s about the singers, or so I’ve heard. I think so far with NBC’s The Voice everyone is focused on the four judges and not the people trying to make it.

  • toni

The Voice has a much better line-up of judges. Only thing I know about Cheryl Cole is that she has a conviction for assaulting a black woman in a toilet. Nicole would have made a better judge. Think this show might end up flopping.

    • Paul

She has a conviction for a assaulting a woman in a toilet, the race is irrelevant

      • Larry Page

The gender is irrelevent as well:
She has a conviction fo assaulting a person on a toilet.

      • jay

It’s relevant when it’s a racially motivated crime. Google it.

  • Brent Harris

Jeez! Can the show start airing before the tomatoes are thrown?
