Steve Carell’s touching final episode of NBC’s The Office delivered the show’s best performance since at least January. The Office was seen by 8.1 million viewers and delivered a 4.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating. That’s a strong recent number for the show, up 24 percent from last week, but not really unusual. The number will rise a bit in the final ratings since the episode was 52 minutes long and the rest of the hour showed the start of Parks & Recreation (Read Ken Tucker’s take on Carell’s final episode here).
Fox was out in front with American Idol (19 million, 5.5) and Bones (9.8 million, 2.8), which was down 13 percent against The Office.
NBC tied CBS for second place, with the Peacock also airing Community (3.5 million, 1.5) and 30 Rock (4 million, 1.9).
CBS had Big Bang (10.5 million, 3.2) down 14 percent and Rules of Engagement (7.8 million, 2.3) down 12 percent. CSI (10.5 million, 2.3) hit a series low and The Mentalist (13.3 million, 2.6) was down 13 percent from its last original episode.
ABC had a 20/20 Royal Wedding special (6.9 million, 1.5) leading into Grey’s Anatomy (10.3 million, 3.5), down 29 percent, and Private Practice (6.7 million, 2.2), down 19 percent.
CW’s Vampire Diaries (2.6 million, 1.2) was steady, but Nikita (1.7 million, 0.6) didn’t help its pickup chances by falling to a season low.

FIRST! For the first time ever! Ok, sorry about that. I’m surprised to hear that about the ratings. Oh well.
What were the numbers for Parks and Recreation?
Too low to register in the ratings.
It’s a pretty glaring omission that the ratings of Parks and Recreation were not mentioned in the article. You would think that the creative scheduling would having increased their ratings, but it really didn’t. It was a very funny episode, too. I wish more people watched both that and Community.
I have an iPad 2
I have a girlfriend. Who wins?
It may be The Bo…I’m sure there’s an ap for that…And Bo especially wins if he upgrades from his iPad 2 to a HumanCentiPad…
I’m sure the ratings being down was partially caused by the NFL draft. I wonder what the ratings were for ESPN and the NFL Network…
I have both I win
I have both. I win.
clearly the guy with the iPad 2, cuz you can turn the iPad off
SEXISTS!
But I’m going to miss him so much. No one can do like Steve. Although, the bit with Will Ferrell at the end was hilarious.
Will Ferrell is an unfunny d ouchebag . It is known !
AND CAN I GET A HOT TUB !?
Niiice.
Really touching heartfelt episode.
We will miss you Steve.
Thank you Steve Carell. Job well done!
I think that people really wanted to see Steve Carell’s final show last night with The Office. Anytime a lead actor leaves a hit show, you can expect those ratings to jump or spike up. Strong numbers with that 8.1 million viewership! I’ve noticed that Steve’s last 2 or 3 movies have made $35 to $50 million or more and that’s far eclipsed his TV series stint to me. So I think he should focus on movies. Comedies are what he’s very good at.
His movies gross money, but their awful. Name one good movie where he was the lead?
The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Dan In Real Life. And Date Night wasn’t an amazing movie, but Carell and Fey were absolutely awesome together.
How about Little Miss Sunshine?
Yeah, his movies aren’t NEARLY as good as movies starring Vic Nardozza..
Get Smart. Loved him as Maxwell Smart!
Where was the final, “That’s what she said..” joke? Otherwise an o.k send-off.
Check the last 5 minuetes again…
“That’s what she said” was the last line he said on the episode.
He said ” thats what she said” right after he took the mic off for the last time in the airport…he said ” I will be so happy to get this off my chest”…then he took the mic off and mouthed to the camera “thats what she said.”
Ok…had the volume turned down when i first saw it…..sorry.
CBS Thursday is just sad now. Look at those demo and viewer numbers.
Big Bang Theory getting just above a 3.0 when it was getting as high as 5.7 last season
CSI use to always win the viewer battle versus Grey’s Anatomy by at least 3 to 4 million viewers and now it can barely do that and was beaten soundly in viewers a few weeks ago. Grey’s Anatomy is still a force, especially in demo while CSI’s demo numbers have totally caved- 2.3??? If it gets another season, CBS is looking at 1.5 to 2.0 tops for demo numbers.
Even The Mentalist demos suck. If ABC puts Charlies Angels in that spot next fall, The Mentalist is in trouble.
